It doesn't, Bing & by extension MS is the biggest beneficiary in this!

Yes... and I think the strategy is doomed. Force loading Bing into every new tab improves neither it nor the Edge browser, and is annoying. Bing is simply an inferior search engine.

Benchmark Scores Faster than yours... I'd bet on it. :)
It is laggy, do you not use youtube? Does it on both of my PCs and laptops.

Could only tolerate it for so long after the chromium update, before switching to FF and unfortunately Firefox is sloooow in comparison.
No lag here...

7900x, ryzen 1700, and 7960x systems...oh and a laptop.

I'll try others again and see if I notice a difference.

I just cant trust a browser [chrome] that is made by a company that sells personal information for profit. Same thing for the browser that comes from a company that made your OS that demands you allow them the same kind of telemetry data. Pushing other browsers into someone else's face just because you like it is lame.

Yea, even FF has its quirks, other browsers moreso. FF/clones have a mountain of available information in about:config.

The article is misleading. It is the 2nd most popular browser among desktops/laptops.

All devices, 1st is Chrome and 2nd is Safari.

Yeah, no.
Believe it or not, Apple is either a desktop, or a laptop.

Nice try, but mobile is not what this article is about.

I just literally said, the article is misleading. It doesn't state the category.

The two most popular browsers worldwide are Chrome and Safari. That's what a blanket statement is.

The two most popular browsers among desktops/laptops are Chrome and Edge (by very small margin).

My issue with chrome is (sometimes) when I close it I can't open it back up unless I remove it's process.. wtf

That is actually the bug I was thinking of when I mentioned Firefox. It has something similar. At times when you start the browser it will take 5 seconds longer and it catches it with a pop up saying things are slow, and do I want to restart the process.

So, chrome is almost 70% of the market and edge is not even 8%.. this whole conversation is pointless.
Edit: obviously chrome is not that good, especially if we are talking about memory usage but it's what most people use. It would very interesting if tpu created a poll about why people use chrome.

If this was true it would always have been this popular and nothing would have changed with the Chromium switch.

People have only started to move from W7 to W10 this past year.

And again, win 10 doesn't upgrade classic edge to edge canary automatically, and even an iso downloaded a few days ago still use classic edge instead of canary

Is this based on number of actual users, or just downloads?
Because there's a lot of people will download just try the new shiny thing.

It’s 6 months that I switched both desktop and laptop from chrome to Firefox, can’t be happier. I switched because chrome has a process (chrome cleanup tool) that eats 15% of my 2700x and 40% of my laptop’s 7300hq for at least half of an hour, at least 3 days a week. Never knew why. I also tried the beta and canary versions, same annoyance. BTW, last versions of Firefox are as fast as chrome, in both my PCs.

Google is benefiting from this probably by mainstreaming the source code for overall internet likeness to enable better advertising. Don't think Google would just loan out their source code as open source, without some intent behind doing so.
Google Chrome is based on the open source Chromium project which is open to everyone and that is because it is based on open source Linux code. In fact Google don't actually licence their Android OS, they licence their app package and play store.

Google Chrome is based on the open source Chromium project which is open to everyone and that is because it is based on open source Linux code. In fact Google don't actually license their Android OS, they license their app package and play store.

Your statement is publically known and stated on their website. What the website doesn't come out and tell you is what is the overall strategy behind doing this.

The strategy behind choosing this direction is outside the fundamentals of the Linux code or the project itself. In my opinion, the strategy is likely to mainstream their project in order to achieve likeness across the web, which betters their advertising. They are an advertising giant which makes advertising dollars based off data mining and traffic tracking and flow. Chrome itself may be ~68-80% market share, but the project is likely 85%-90% of all desktop use. I.E., companies spending their capital money to develop websites or other will likely focus their capital dollars on getting the site to function correctly on Chromium, because that's where the majority of the users are. Well that's great for Google in a likeness strategy.
