Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 RC1 Released

For the record, Internet Explorer was and always will be capable of blocking ads. Its able to be faster and more reliable then something like Firefox. I think it all boils down to basic understanding and general knowledge.
I still cant believe there are pc users out there that dont have a personal HOSTS file that gets ammended every day along side the ' software ' firewall that people assume is good enough.

Wow your firefox has plugins, wow your google chrome has . . . actually it has nothing. I am yet to experience anything another browser has or can do that Internet Explorer cant which indicates to me that its stupid to install another possible vulnerability on the pc. Lets face it, Firefox arnt as cluey as Microsoft, nor are they able to spend the millions Microsoft does on securing their product.

Ive only used Internet Explorer 8 with both w7 x86 & x64 and found it to be an excellent improvement interms of speed and stability. I guess it was all relative. I did manage to crash the browser, but its not very often someone has 120 tabs open in 10 seperate processes = total of 1200 websites open at once while running Prime.

Downloading now for XP x64. Im voting for a patched Ie8 to come with w7 upon release, with a possible Ie9 release about the service pack era of w7's lifespan.

i'm my country FF has 53% share of the market. i think we have the highest FF usage in the word.

when i get pcs to fix i install FF and disable access to Ie.

Thanks for that link mtosev. Im a strong believer that where there is the will, there will be the way, meaning that exploits will always exist ( they better always exist . Even though the article discusses Ie6 and the early days of Ie7 i respect the fact that 9 months is way too long to address a critical vulnerability that was brought to the attention of the company and like to think they learnt their lesson.

RC1 is like the beta only not like the beta if it makes sense. Its been in Beta for awhile to test but it gave me the diarrhea on my system so I had to jettison it. However, being in RC1 Im hoping the stuff is alot better so Ill give it a try

Ok, I did just have a browser lockup. Neat thing was, after restarting IE it asks if you want to resume your session. I ticked "Yes" and it took me right back where I was. Another cool feature is when you highlight a word, sentence, etc. a button appears next to the highlight to immediately search what was selected.

only issues I've had with IE8 is that it tends to be a lot more careful with active scripts and other embeded page controls . . . not too hard to work around ATM.

Otherwise, it seems to render the page a lot quicker the IE7 did (which was fairly fast to begin with, IMHO) . . . between the first beta and this new RC1, I've had a couple of pages load off center, or different sections overlapping each other, but this seems to only be with sites that claim to be coded for FF or some other squirelly BS (although IE7 didn't do so with those pages).

Well i have been using IE8 RC1 since yesterday morning and so far am impressed by it. I love the highlight some text on a web page and up pops a link allowing you to do a google search etc. Have had a few problems with some pages not working correctly (skins.be and guru3d.com) but set them to run under compatability mode and all is now good. The 32bit version apart from the previously stated problems has not had a single crash on me, the 64bit version is a different story as it has crashed a few times on me. The skins.be, and whirlpool.net.au crash on me every time I try to get to them. But as the 32bit version is default, and the one I use because it is default is not a problem for me.

What I want to know is how did IE lock up on your computer with its supposedly nearly crashproof "multiple tab process" technology.

IE 7 and 8 are complete garbage. They lock up all the time for me, I constantly get crashing annd restarts when I run multiple tabs. I have held out for a long time but I am switching to Firefox.

I guess this is where it is diffrent to IE7. If IE7 crashed on one site, whenever you closed that it would close down the downloads and all other windows of IE you had opened. Now only the crashed site cloeses and can be restored with a single click.

Personally I won't change from IE any time soon; it is just too much interwinded with windows and that's what I like about it. Also IE 8 is fast, very fast. It feels a lot faster than IE7 and even faster than Firefox.

Edit: Also, there seems to be a diffrence from IE8 RC1 and IE8 Beta 2 as I'm having no display corruptions with this build whereas I had some on the beta 2...

Wierd thing is, the Sidebar is kind of doing strange things since I'm using IE 8... It is not crashing or anything, but some of the apps have wierd looks... :-/

But i have delt with constant crashed and lockups with 7 and now 8 is no better, WTF is it going to take for MS to fix it. I report a crash report EVERYTIME, are they making use of them??? It is extremely frustrating, especially when your Etrade account page crashes...

Well, if you're not already doing so, just use another browser and leave IE entirely.

yeah - I haven't noticed any issues with the display rendering with RC1 anymore . . . which is nice.

One feature/issue I don't necessarily like, ATM . . . if you hit the 'enter' key too quickly, it 'activates' whatever the currently highlighted button on-screen is. It's cause me to "post" unfinished messages a few times, that I have to ninja-edit to finish my thoughts.

As to any crashing, it's very nice to have only the borked page crash out - most of the time, all other pages and tabs stay up (I've only had one occurance where everything crashed out, and that was with beta2) - even still, the "session restore" seems a little bit more advanced than with some other browsers. I've had the session restore revive a post I was in the middle of - quite to my surprise, I thought I had lost everything I had typed.

I see why they would want to stay at 6. I mean, IE7 is fine most of the time but sometimes it just seems to lock up trying to load a borked image or applet when it should let me browse/give up on it quicker. I had that happen twice today and frankly, it is getting annoying. I would love IE8 if it addressed that and didn't introduce any other...problems.

Microsoft can't release a fix whenever they want because they have to localize the update (translate everything to dozens of languages) and thoroughly test it (make sure it doesn't create new vulnerabilities). Firefox, they really don't care. If it bricks your system, they'll just release a patch and consider it even. Besides, you can't really complain because you didn't pay for it. If Microsoft screws up bad, it will hit their bottom line. It is best that they leave a vulnerability open for a while longer to make sure the update is smooth than end up having hundreds of thousands of complaints directed their way like what recently happened to Seagate.

I prefer Microsoft's slow and steady approach to updating to FireFox's rapid response which high chance of destroying something approach (like killing DD/DT tags or making JS ignore new line characters).

I sould mention that firefox has dosens of awards from reviews.

and M$ has the enought money to localize there software. and there localization sux. the slovenian translations of windows and MSN sux badly. that's way i have everything in english. plus they translate only 60% of the windows and so you have a "nice" dual language windows.

I second that! Serbian localization is also as bad if not even worse because some translations are wrong.

9 years ago I had an issue with win 98 and 2000 dual boot so i sent an email to microsoft slovenija. they answered that i call them on the commercial line as they can't answer thru email. and they don't have a toll-free number. the number that they had was like 0.30eur/minute.

first and last time that i contacted M$ support.

Ya think? Is it not to early for a new broswer already or was IE7 written like such a POS that is never got fixed? And now we have IE8 with the same crash sequences, except now they wrote in code to restore last session... WTF good does that do, oh so we are a little less inconvenianced? LOL you get my point? I am a faithful MS customer but whatever dept is responsible for and writing the IE stuff should really really be reevaluated for their skills.
