Microsoft Stops Selling HD-DVD Add-on for Xbox 360

Microsoft apparently didn't get the memo about HD-DVD being dead until late this week. Microsoft announced that the HD-DVD add-on for the Xbox 360 is no longer being manufactured. Those that have already been manufactured and haven't been sold yet will most likely be sold at a discounted price until they're all gone. Despite the fact that they are no longer making an HD-DVD add-on, Microsoft will still provide a full warranty for the thing. They will also provide as much support for the device as if HD-DVD didn't die earlier this week.

hey man their crafty, looks at their food its basically all the same, but sooo good they cane make 18 different dishes out of the same ingredients and call them different things and who knows they may have the next Hitler on their hands(minus the whole eradication of a race idea)

HD-DVD still has a use imo, but I don't think movies will be it...But that kind of room for next-gen PC games might be a good thing. BluRay is good stuff, but I think HD-DVD will make a return...but maybe not in a similar context as we assume it right now...

everyone shifted to blu-ray(major movie studios) they were just all like "bitch blu rays better screw you hd-dvd" to which the the HD-DVD camp responded "oh no you didn't" when in fact they actually did

very true, but im sure they could have thought of another use for the format, i was looking forward to the price of blue-ray coming down but since hd dvd is out of the game i guess it wont be happening anytime soon! o well i can wait, need to fiinish my new rig anyway!

Thats probably the only thing.

What would have been nice to see is having just movies on HD DVD and having all games and other PC like media on Blu-Ray. Blu-Ray is great for backup purposes.

BTW What game would be good to stuff on a 50GB blu-ray disk? I really don't want a single game to take up that much space on my hard drive and I really don't like the idea of playing a game from a disk that can be damaged.

HD-DVD still has a use imo, but I don't think movies will be it...But that kind of room for next-gen PC games might be a good thing. BluRay is good stuff, but I think HD-DVD will make a return...but maybe not in a similar context as we assume it right now...

The only future for HD-DVD is through Microsoft, and I'm talking digital downloads here. 10 years down the road, when internet infrastructre grows, Apple TV, HD-DVD, and Cable Companies will be going head on in the digital download market.

EDOT: And Sony will most likely have a market as well.

Sony just loaded out tons of money to win a format war that will be a substantial investment for at least 10 years if not more. Blu-ray will bring Sony amazing profits, but will start to die out just like regular DVD-9 is now 10 years down the line when digital downloads come forth, with newer and bigger infrastructures.

Point is, any money helps and it sounds like Toshiba is mad at MS.
