Mouse recommendations

hi all, last couple of years ive been using a Logitech G305 (wireless) and overall its been pretty good, but after something with maybe extra buttons and a better grip ( for online gaming)

Now due to a couple of friends recommending the Logitech G502 X (wired) i bought that and now having major problems with it, returned it and got a replacement, which is also doing the same thing.
The problem with it is in games (fps) with certain weapons where holding down the fire button, the mouse instead of turning while you aim, seems to start start strafing instead.
Ive tried loads of diff settings on the mouse to no avail, reinstalling the software, using the mouse with and without the software, changing dpi and report rates, going thru all the windows mouse settings & spent a couple of hours googling the problem, nothing has fixed the problem.

Strangely my G305 does not have this problem, so im baffled.
Gutted tbh as i actually love the feel of this mouse, it just doesnt work how every other mouse ive had does.

Anyway, so ive given up with this model and going to return for a refund, so im after a reasonable wired gaming mouse ( preferably in white if possible )
That has a decent grip/feel.
Seems to be so many brands around these days im a bit lost.

so basically im after

Wired ( as wireless are just to expensive )
Good grip/feel
extra buttons more than 5 what most mice seem to have.
up to around £70

white would be a bonus

and based on this G502 X , id say probably not Logitech

How about Razer's basilisk series?
Previously I was using Logitech's G402 and switched to this after it failed.
They have a similar shape.

Honestly I would just tune your current G305. Going from wireless to wired is a huge downgrade and you are taking a risk by changing shape. As a G305 owner for a long time now, I've tried a majority of the high end mice on the market and nothing was as good. Not the G Pro Superlight, not the 8K deathadder, and certainly not the steelseries aerox. 90% of a mouse is shape. I am running a modded G305 though but the stock clicks on the G305 are so much better than the vast majority of mice with GM 8.0s which is just super stiff in comparison. Nothign really feels the same in the palm either.

Just get a AA to AAA converter and get energizer lithium ultimate AAA batteries along with some quality grip tape (pulsar makes good stuff). More buttons may sound nice on paper but try moving your thumb up and down while moving your mouse. You loose grip, this is why the two side buttons mice have can be pressed with minimal thumb movement. Adding more buttons just adds weight and reduces your grip when you go to push half the buttons. If you need additional buttons that you can't map to the keyboard or your MMB or side mouse buttons pedals are far more recommendable. No need to compromise on your mouse.

It's going to depend on the size of your hand and how you like to hold the mouse, but I've been using the Corsair Scimitar in all of its iterations for years now since it fits my hand well and I like having the mass of buttons. I currently have Corsair Scimitar Elite and it works for me, though I've been considering giving the wireless version a try. I don't know what they go for over there, but I got it for ~$100 US.

hence the need for a replacement, the G502 X while not working as expected, feels very good to use and does have some handy buttons which did seem fine to use while in game, so a similar shape to that would be good, as mentioned abother the Razor basilisk has a similar shape to to it, so is 1 to check out.

I'll also look at the Red Dragon, more buttons than i can use on that 1 with the looks lol.

As for Corsair, ive had a couple of the cheaper models and to be honest they were truly awful, so i dont think Corsair is an option.
Maybe the one you mentioned is fine, but the cheap ones were so bad they put me right off Corsair for anything mouse related.

Logitech at its natural habitat (there's a reason I've gone from a G502/G810 pair to optical-equipped Razers). Have you considered replacing the switches, if you have soldering skills?

I've been using the G502 (the original version) and I've not seen the behavior you're describing once. I'm not even sure how a mouse could issue "strafe" instead of "turn. It's either a problem in the software (easily fixed, G502 has internal memory, once you configure it you can uninstall the software altogether) or you just messed up mapping controls.

I can't recommend anything else than the original MX518 and its descendants. I have MX518, G400s & MX518 remake myself and it was love at first try back in 2005.

They may have the best, as long as Synapse requires an online account to give you access to the full functionality of your hardware, they can keep it.

This is 2024, you have to get over these things. Do you avoid Windows because there are some online aspects of the OS?

Synapse is one of the most stable and feature driven peripherals software, with monthly patches. Compared to some of the laughable software releases from Chinese mice, or western rebranded mice, it's a dream.

You don't even need it installed once you've configured your mouse if it bothers you that much.

I don't. Though I was able to upgrade to Win11 without an online account, I took advantage of that. And my main OS is Linux anyway.

It's using a whole 100 MB of resources. And no, you aren't forced to have an online account, just to sync across platforms. There exists a guest mode if signing into software is anathema to you.

You do realize this opens up the possibility of shutting you off from certain functionalities in the future?
I'm not a tin-foil privacy nutcase, I just prefer not to encourage going that way.

And thanks for mentioning only cross-device sync is being gated under the online account requirements, I wasn't aware of that. I guess that has changed at some point, iirc when the online requirement first popped up, it was required for more than that. (And that would be Razer going in a good direction.)

Yeah they have lots of models think @lexluthermiester just got one with 2 side thumb buttons.
But like I said once you set the buttons you can remove the software from the startup menu.

I have no idea why it's acceptable to have a mouse software connecting to the internet all the time like razor devices do
But yeah never on my buy list no matter what a review says.

Razer had a chance with me back in around the end of 2014 to the end of 2016 and they screwed the pooch hard. Synapse software was just bloated junk that caused more issues and the 2014 Naga I was using was trash. Constant tracking issues, issues with buttons and 2 days (yes, it was 2 days) after the warranty ended the middle mouse button/wheel broke. It wouldn't click anymore and it wouldn't spin/roll. I thought maybe that since it was only 2 days past warranty Razer would say screw it, we'll cover it, they told me it wasn't their problem. Even after having 6 different problem tickets opened with them over the 2 years I owned the mouse and had constant problems with it, they told me there was nothing they would do for me.

Synapse software at the time was trash. It caused issues with forcing my GPU to run 3d clocks all the time, regardless of what GPU driver I tested it. I was able to confirm it was the Synapse software because after uninstalling it the issue with the GPU always running 3d clocks would go away. Re-install the software and the GPU would be running 3d clock speeds again. Just sitting at the desktop, doing nothing else, the GPU wouldn't clock down to idle speeds with Synapse software running. It caused issues with correcting and breaking things with the mouse (tracking, macros and so on). When the software would go on the fritz I would have to uninstall it and then scrub the registry to get the issues to go away. Then I'd have issues with mouse (tracking, again) and Razer support would ask me to install the Synapse software (again) and the tracking issue would go away. Rinse and repeat these problems over and over again for 2 year span until the mouse broke.

I can't speak for Razer's software since about 2017, but back then it was trash. Maybe they improved upon it now, but I won't give them a second chance. They got $80 out of me and their mouse and software failed. I won't give them money again. I'm not sure how a mouse can just break after 2 years of moderate use when I've got a MS Intellimouse that I've had since early 2000s that still works without issues today and I use the mouse daily at my work (currently using it now and it's been with me on my last 3 jobs over the past 20 years)

No thanks. I cannot in good conscience ever support nor suggest anyone to use Razer. Granted, my experience with them is mine and other people have had great experience with them. So to each their own. But coming around and telling people that Razer is great and Synapse is the best, that is your opinion and you won't change the minds of people that had awful experiences with Razer.

I've got a wired G502 and it's worked flawlessly for me for the past 7 years. No mis-clicks. No issues with the Logitech software. No funky behaviour in any games. I even have a spare backup wired G502 should the one I'm using take a crap on me. I can't say I understand the issue the OP is having with it because it sound odd that a mouse would even do that and it sounds more like a button mapping issue....I'd suggest to see if you can test the mouse on another computer to see if you can replicate the problem because it's just a very odd issue to report having any mouse do.

Zero soldering required and easy to install. Stock switches are D2FC-F-7N and the D2FC-F-K are what's used in the G Pro Wireless (which has a tad lighter clicks but very similar overall). Hotswap PCB allows you to replace the switches as many times as you need or with any switch you want to try.

You could replace the skates in addition if yours are getting worn.

Red Dragon QC is poor and the mice are cheap. They are decent if you have little money or aren't that serious but the fit, finish, and feel is inferior to major brands like Logitech and Razor. If a person was forced to purchase a cheap mouse, I'd recommend they look at the MouseReviews reddit that often highlights good cheap mice like the Darmoshark M3 wireless.

Stock switches are only rated for 10 million clicks on the G305. OP can just use hotswap board though, no soldering required and cheap.

More or less the same experience I had in 2015 as well although I did give Razer another shot in 2019 and they had drastically improved things on the hardware side. Software still sucks though. Can't comment on if the warranty support has improved. Nothing has ever beaten the warranty support I've received with Logitech though.

Didn't know of this possibility with a G305, but it certainly wasn't available for my (hand-fixed) G502 Hero. I think its Omrons were rated for 20M, and even then it didn't pass the test of time.
The G810 Orion, on the other hand... Such a shame that the Romer-G's (also Omrons) are so prone to chattering. Typing and gaming on it was a beautiful experience, which I do miss. Swapping every key without the certainty that the keycaps would survive the process makes fixing it inviable for me.

I've got 2 modded G305s with hotswap switch PCBs and Honeywell UX10C switches. Got a whole bunch of other switches I've tried with it as well. I know for a fact it's possible.

Same here and surprisingly, not once since going wireless has the mouse cord got tangled up in my feet or pulled the mouse onto the floor. Nor has it moved the mouse pointer from where I put it!

@xu^ - the reality is, everyone can offer up their suggestions and opinions, and they can comment on the build quality and functionality of the buttons and wheels. But not one of them can tell you how any mouse (or keyboard) will feel in YOUR hands.

These HIDs (human interface devices) are extensions of our own hands and fingertips. What "feels" great in my hand may feel awkward or even painful in yours. You need to find a computer store and go play touchy-feely for yourself.

Try to place the mouse at the same height and distance from you as it would if sitting on your desk. You need the "angle of approach" to be the same. This will affect how it feels on your wrists, elbows, and shoulders too. Just remember those demo mice have been abused and may not function correctly.

And take a bottle of hand sanitizer with you.

All mice are mass produced man lol
Like I said I have three 901's and no issues over like 5-6 years with any of them.
Plus like many others have lifetime warranties so if you want to be picky in that way get the one easiest to rma which I suppose is corsair they do have a US rma center.
Op is in the UK though.
