No I didn't flash my GTX card. I can only speak of my RTX card and here I got higher power limit up to 305W I think. I can push the voltage slider in afterburner to 100% but I think that isn't very useful with RTX cards. The highest clock I could reach was 2130MHz chip and 8100MHz VRAM clock. It was stable with these settings for one Unigine Superpsoition Benchmark and I saved my values ;-)
The card is under water by the way and for this run I had all sliders voltage/power/temp to 100%

I was in front of a few 2080 Super also ;)

I flashed witn nvflash64 and it worked. All ports are working (XOC bios no power temp limit). The card is still quite a dog when it comes to OC but now I can keep above 2GHz at all times 2025-2050 MHz @ 1.129/1.131 ... without that little extra the card would crash with manual OC.

The nice part is no more power limit in Witcher 3 4K and I get stable performance with an extra 3-4 fps.

So far happy with XOC and since all my display out ports work (including HDMI) I say it can stay on the card for a while :)

The funny thing is the max temp with XOC I only get 58 degrees Celsius so should be fine.

Its a reason why i asked you all the questions i did because if you didnt have proper cooling I would of said to do so and once done then gave needed tools

Yeah I've said a few times that I have custom cooling. Thanks for the support @eidairaman1

The cards draw 348-349W in this state I think it's extra 50W so not such a big deal I guess for the VRMs.

Mission acomplished 2GHz barrier stable. I never drops under 2012MHz and it's what I wanted to achieve by buying an aftermarket cooling solution. 2100 Mhz would have been nice but not this GPU it seems ....

Thanks all for help and suggestions !

@eidairaman1

I call it a "success" but what can you tell me about faster degradation at 1.125 bs 1.093 on this gpu? What about vrms at 350w instead of 300w

Temperatures are great max 55 and vrms + mem getting double cooling front and backplate (from Arctic)

Since I've seen this particular gpu capabilities vs voltage I might consider MSI Lightning Z bios or EVGA FTW3 but how can I check compatibility?

I know I got lucky once with writing the Asus XOC bios but I think its to extreme for what I can obtain (loosing quite a few protections that is). So I'm mainly wanting around 350-370W power so I don't get throttled by it at 4k gaming.

The max clock isn't really that important even if I go a few mhz below 2ghz performance in gaming will be almost the same.

There is always degredation if you use more volts but it also depends of heat. The higher the temps the faster the degredation. So if temps are ok and you don‘t use too much volts I think degredation is not that problem. If you brick your card and you saved your original BIOS before you can always flash back

I'm a lucky one I've installed EVGA FTW3 bios and everything works. Now I have 358W of available power and the safety features on. I've lost 100 points in 3dmark timespy which is nothing when it comes to gaming.

Yes I think it‘s the best choice to get higher power limit and leave volt in safe zone

Yeah that XOC bios really gets the heat going. I have mine watercooled and it stays under 55C at 2.1ghz.

Max I've seen 58 from XOC with air cooling (Arctic cooler)

Try the lightning bios

Will do ! Since I've flashed a few I don't think Lightning Z will cause any problems :)

According to this picture https://www.guru3d.com/articles-pages/msi-geforce-gtx-1080-ti-lightning-z-review,1.html (power connectors) the Lightning Z has 3 inputs power supply.

Here this dude says "Important! Don't flash the HOF or MSI Lightning Z BIOS's or any BIOS that uses three power connectors.
They'll brick your card and unless you have a spare card or iGPU you won't be able to flash it back. Also two eight pin power connector Kingpin BIOS will brick your card.

"

I'm little bit reticent of trying to flash the lightning z on my card since it might brick it.

How does this one look ? https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/191619/zotac-gtx1080ti-11264-170330-2

No, too many display ports.

Yeah forget about lightning Z/HOF/Kingpin/AMP Extreme.

Use XOC or FTW3 and then use afterburner.

EVGA FTW3 has 3 dp also ? the one I'm using now ... I think 3 power connectors vs 2 power connectors can brick it ... since EVGA FTW3 has 3 display ports and I still have 2 x dp and 1 x hdmi functional and my hardware config is 2xdp 2xhdmi 1xdvi

The RTX 2080 Strix OC has two HDMI and 2 Display ports. My card has 3 DP and 1 HDMI but the Strix OC BIOS works. One DP is out of work but it didn't brick the card. Do you have a working iGPU?

Edit:
The power supply needn't brick the card as my card has 6+8 pin power supply and strix has 8+8 pin power supply. Basically I can use 300 Watts as one 8 pin has 150 Watts + 1 6 Pin 75 Watts + PCIe 75 Watts = 300 Watts in sum. With 2 8 Pin connectors you can use 75+150+150=375 Watts.

Which bios are you using? Fyi make sure you test all ports for operation.

I'm looking to flash my msi lighting x to z.
Nvflash 64 (5.792) doesn't validate compatibility or bios check for me, see screenshot
My current bios is the original n°2 (Ln2 switch): version 86.02.39.00.01, see screenshot
The lighting z bios was downloaded from techpowerup.com, video bios collection: version 86.02.39.00.DB,see screenshot

With the original bios n°1 version 86.02.39.00.D8, see screenshot, I am perfectly stable at 2050Mhz / 1.081v 6254Mhz / 1.375v with temperatures not exceeding 65°C.

In view of the nvflash anomalies, I dare not take the plunge... . Do you have an idea to solve the problem?
I know it's possible because people have done it successfully.

Also in view of this oc with the original bios, do you think there is a real interest?
And finally, do you know a compatible bios for which a performance gain would be potentially useful to test?

Get a gpu-Z Screenshot of both sides of the bios switch please
