Exactly. There's nothing slim about these cards, and the two most important dimensions for SFF cases (card length, and height protrusion above the expansion slot retention bracket) appear to be "fat".

These are definitely pushing it a bit on the length at 307mm, but I think I can just sneak one into my ITX case.

Any chance MSI will do this with some Radeons? Hoping for a 7800 XT that's "slim" enough for ITX use.

They're taking all the shortcuts possible forward to the past when we had a norm of hangar sized computers. See? GPUs already become bigger, slower and more expensive at the same time.

GPUs run at stupid high clocks since mid-2010s, sweet spot (engineer wise) is already 400+ MHz behind. E.g. my RX 6700 XT:

• stock, cca 2590 MHz mean gaming wattage is about 180 W
• sweet spot, cca 2200 MHz mean gaming wattage is about 110 W (going less speed makes no sense because savings are negligible, the GPU is unstable on substantially lower current/voltage no matter the frequency) (I don't talk undervolting which further lowers wattage to double digits)

E.g. my 1080 Ti:

• stock, cca 1880 MHz mean gaming wattage is about 230 W
• sweet spot, cca 1690 MHz mean gaming wattage is about 165 W (with UV, it further reduces to as little as 125 W which is very close to GTX 1060 and RX 470)

The GPU only loses 15 percent of speed being reduced by almost 40% of its appetites (in case of RX 6700 XT) and 10 percent speed by shrinking to 72% of original TDP (GTX 1080 Ti). Same goes to Ada, especially if we talk RT Off. This could make PCBs way more simple, and this also would've manifested way more conservative cooling approach and thus, drastically lower the production costs and delivering more appropriate retail prices if both parties don't change their profit margins.

I don't think it's going to happen. Not in the consumer lineup anyway.

With both Ampere and Lovelace, The smallest, lowest-power Geforce card is the GA107/AD107 at 115W.
The issue with low-profile is that you're limited to 50mm fans and unless you want to make it a triple-slot card, they're not going to have enough room to do their thing at 115W.

For Quadro where it's about certification and driver support, rather than performance, you will likely find something at 5x the cost, and half the performance you want it to be. By downclocking a 3050 the A2000 is a 70W part, but it's also so expensive and so slow that you can afford to rebuild into a new case instead for less outlay. Some nice, premium SFF with a riser for a regular full-height, dual-slot card that's 1/5th the cost and twice as fast....

If source from comment #4 is correct all RTX 4090 "Slim" models and part of RTX 4080. "Slim" models will be 62 mm thick which is a 3+ PCIe slots.
