The only difference on the Ace MAX is WiFi 7 chipset and 5GbE LAN on one of the ports. Not sure it's worth waiting for especially if you can buy the Z790 or Z690 ACE for a lower price. I've actually gone with the Z690 model in the end and it's an insane motherboard, even if it doesn't run memory so high.

Core Ultra branding will be reserved for latest generation architecture, according to an Intel rep, so the Raptor refresh chips don't qualify. These will retain the i9 brand for now. And no chance it does 6.5 either.

Hey thanks for the info! ...I'm coming from ROG Maximus Z390 Formula Motherboard and 9900KS 5GHz setup...I decided to make the switch from ROG to MEG.... I've been on ASUS for a decade time to switch to MSI...

I want an WiFi 7 Motherboard so my options are limited at the moment...Z790 v2.0 MAX Revisions all have WiFi 7 on them an the MEG Z790 ACE MAX has every thing I have been looking for in an performance board. My new Power-Supply is "MEG Ai1300P PCIE5" I figure I need around 1100W all said and done and I bought the "MEG PROSPECT 700R" Case with Custom "EK-Quantum Reflection" Reservoir/pump combo....system fully Cooled by EK.

Forgot to add RTX 4080Ti video card and 64GB CL34 7200 RAM.

Just to point out what level of performance I'm getting into...

To my knowledge Raptor Lake Refresh with Intel DLVR Technology (Digital Linear Voltage Regulator) using all 1800 Pins. Both Alder Lake & Raptor Lake only used 1700 Pins, Yes the LGA 1700 socket has 1800 pins with 100 pens sitting dormant for unlocked Raptor Lake Refresh.

Raptor Lake Refresh has two high-end CPUs "according to the leaks" will be Shown /launched September 19th and coming out in Q4.

14900K 6.2
14900KS 6.5GHz

The new name "Ultra 9 Core" is just a rebranding name and be on Raptor Lake Refresh 1800 pins upgrade option for Z690 & Z790.

Think of it as Coffee Lake 8th gen & Coffee Lake Refresh 9th gen

Intel known from the start that Meteor Lake Desktop was a no go thus the 1800 pins socket.

I guess I could wait another year for the Intel Socket V1(LGA 1851) on Z890 Motherboard with 15th Gen Arrow Lake 20A RibbonFET but I don't want first generation Hardware Fiasco's....I'll buy again what's Intel Masters Chiplet technology.... Most likely something on Intel 18A process matures should be the next big thing...4 years for the next big Refresh...

Appreciate everyone's opinion & information on this matter....Cheers

All of these claims are rumors and hearsay... I literally linked you the Intel employee clarifying the usage of the Ultra branding and why Raptor refresh doesn't qualify.

Those clock numbers MLID "leaked" are extremely improbable on this process node even if DLVR is enabled (and it is not likely to be). Intel has not provided any official information on them yet. 6.5 GHz on this node is about as much of a daydream as 8 GHz Pentium 4 claims in the golden days of NetBurst. I'm telling you this as someone that owns a 13900KS.

And for that memory configuration, just buy the Z790 Apex to maximize your chances. This motherboard isn't the platform you want. Then again even with a Apex I make no promises about 7200 C34 on a 2x32 kit.

Thanks for your information... helps me open up a bit sometimes I'm find myself too Linear thinking other options helps me look at different things... thus is what we're talking about these motherboards in this awesome forum.

Why are so many people against Intel DLVR (Digital Linear Voltage Regulator) Technology? So weird I always get bad vibes...It seems to get so many people have a bad opinion and alot of dislikes lately too?...because they Locked it out on Raptor Lake? Missing features Clock Speed & Power savings empty promise the first round make it up with Raptor Lake Refresh?

Thier is no Z890 Chipset Intel V1 Socket (LGA 1851) for over another year so no Meteor Lake Chiplet Desktop until Arrow Lake thus is Raptor Lake Refresh fill the gap with 1800 pins backwards compatibility with Z690 & Z790 Chipsets. Z890 is Intel Chiplet technology Motherboard first on Arrow Lake Q3 2024.

Either the rumors are real like it was with 13th gen KS 6GHz... Happened.... Or Raptor Lake Refresh has Double the Cache copying AMD Big 3D Cache Theory?

I guess we'll find out September 19th the thurth day

You're right about... The ROG Maximus Z790 Apex is a crazy Motherboard that can handle over 10GHz DDR5 on World Record amazing... Like I said earlier I'm moving forward from ROG to MEG Z790 with WiFi 7 Motherboard. ASUS ROG pissed me off no Z790 Formula Motherboard series.... Replaced with Apex

MEG Z790 ACE MAX (Refresh MB) I'm curious about Raptor Lake Refresh power out envelope would it be the same as Raptor Lake? 150w TDP / 253w LN2 / 356w OC with Delidding CPUs...

Are you Delidding your CPU?

I'm jealous of your 13900KS 6GHz ...I'm a KS guy myself 9900KS 5GHz to 14900KS 6.5GHz is the plan hopefully if my opinion doesn't get change by Q4... the problem with waiting it'd be hard for me to go back say 13900KS they're an limited Supply and probably won't be around by October and the price on the KS always goes up... almost like a collector's item like my Silicon Lottery days...

ASUS has a lot of problems this year and MSI is being super aggressive with good stuff coming out...

You can't put and run stable CL34 7200 (32GBX2) Kit on the upcoming MEG Z790 ACE MAX Motherboard? See something like that would stop the sales of me buying something if there is a problem I could have run decent Ram Best of Both Worlds level on a new board...

That's interesting....RAM issues with MSI MEG Z790 ACE Motherboards I must investigate... Thanks.

We aren't against it, but Intel disabled DLVR support on the original Raptor Lake for a reason. It was present and enabled in early i9-13900K engineering samples, after all. My guess is that it's one of those features that just have too many errata, and considered it interfaces directly with the chip's power supply, it was probably deemed a risk to leave it enabled. The truth is, we don't know if DLVR will or will not make an appearance with the refresh, Intel hasn't said anything on the matter yet, I just wouldn't hold my breath.

To address your questions: no, my processor isn't delidded, I run it stock with an undervolt. If I'm not mistaken, it's @Solaris17 who delidded his 13900KS and runs it on a swanky water-cooled setup. He may be able to tell you more about that procedure than I can. About the memory, yes, you can use it, but I can't guarantee that you will get high speeds and tight timings on a 4 DIMM board. My Z690 ACE with a single rank Hynix A 6800 CL34 kit (2x 16 GB) walled at 6400 CL30, even with the improvements in Z790 regarding memory speed, you may be asking too much of this topology. Will probably work if the sticks aren't dual rank, though.

Regarding an eventual i9-14900KS: I find it exceptionally unlikely that they will release an SKU with a 6.5 TVB target, it's just too high for this process node. Intel's been having issues supplying the 13900KS as it is, these are hand picked CPUs, there are not many of them. If you want to run 6.0 on all 8 P-cores on this processor, you're going to need custom water and it will use more than 400 W of power, probably more than 450 W even. Mine is undervolted by 0.050V on both P-, E- and their respective cache slices, 5.6 on 6 of the P-cores and 6.0 on the remaining two and it chugs 320 W under full load like it's nothing.

yeah you got me. I like to do dumb shit so you dont have too.

What kind of UV are you running anyway @Dr. Dro coincidentally I was going to look into that. I think the raptor lake microcode patch actually adds a few mv. I forgot how many I would have to look it up.

Hey Thanks for the fantastic info again... Hey aren't you running XMP 3.0 Profiles for your RAM/System overclocking? Or doing it all manually?

I'm not worried about Power-Supply I bought the MEG Ai1300P PCIE5 PSU and my System is custom Cooled By EK. It has 108A 12v+ Rail on it!... I added a separate 14A power circuit into Gaming room dedicated just for this new RIG build into Secretlab MAGNUS PRO XL & MEG PROSPECT 700R tower...

I just bought this custom EK piece for my tower...

I was thinking of buying this...

If it ever comes back in stock....

It's a very slow 6 months build...hopefully I can get all my parts done by Black Friday 2023.

I set a simple adaptive offset-based -0.050 on the cores, P- and E-cache, SA static 1.0V (required by my mem config) and stress tested. It worked, but it's nothing too significant. These chips are binned hard.

I tried adaptive -0.100 on the P-cores, but Cinebench would error out, the highest VID my chip goes to is around 1.39-1.40.

The problem in this board, and in general all MSI boards, is the WiFi antennas location. If you have these antennas, it's quite difficult to use the USB ports above them.

Not an issue besides the ports on top are displayport inputs for thunderbolt. It's the same on my Z690.

I agree, my Z690 Aorus Master has them on top as well, which should be preferred.
I must say I got a separate wifi antenna which came with my board.

If it wasn't an issue, I would not raise it.
It is an issue, because that location forces the user to incline the antennas, and to not use the wanted ports.
The best WiFi signal is when the antenna is in full vertical position, even a slight angle/inclination makes the speeds lower.

It's literally not an issue, it includes an antenna cable, which will not get on the way. There's no angle or inclination there, it's just below the other ports instead of being on top of the other ports. Which may be a little of a problem if you plan on using high-gain antennae directly, but otherwise, it's not a concern.

Then in that case it isn't a huge issue.

But I prefer them on top though.

I see, they changed the antenna. Mine comes with these:

Now they put this:

But still, the WiFi connectors should be on the highest location, not on the bottom of the back panel.

I think it depends on the model.a few years ago I got MSi stuff with just the antennas for AMD and Intel in every SKU. Now it's mostly the WiFi stand thingy accept for the lowest tier. I honestly never noticed the placement as a issue. Just push them to the side and it's perfectly fine.

But still, the WiFi connectors should be on the highest location, not on the bottom of the back panel.
Because? The WiFi internal card isn't touching anything. Im pretty sure all the motherboards that I use currently use (Gigabyte, MSI, ASrock and ASUS), just happen to have the WiFi in the same spot. Never lost WiFi due to using the opposing USB or Thunderbolt ports.

I don't think the implication was that you would lose signal. Just that the antennas will block other useful ports.
