MSI had paused shipments of its RTX 3090 SUPRIM X and RTX 3080 SUPRIM X graphics cards on suspicion of a quality issue with their cards. Earlier today, a Reddit post by someone who was in queue with a retailer to purchase an RTX 3080 SUPRIM X graphics card was allegedly informed by the retailer that the manufacturer has recalled all inventory of SUPRIM X graphics cards from retailers. We recently reviewed the RTX 3080 SUPRIM X, and reached out to our contacts at MSI to confirm the story, and learned a few new facts. For starters, retailers do not have inventory of the RTX 3080 SUPRIM X or RTX 3090 SUPRIM X as of this writing. Rather, MSI halted shipment of the cards' inventories to retailers to check for a quality issue with the cards. It is now convinced that the cards are fit for shipping, and will resume shippint to retailers.

An MSI product manager we spoke with, had this statement:
In order to ensure the best quality of our new SUPRIM flagship series and to offer you the best Gaming experience, we decided to hold back the shipment for a last minute check. Now we are sure that the quality of our product is optimal and the shipments will recommence.

MSI also stressed that the SUPRIM series cards reviewed by the press, or any inventory already in the market, isn't affected by the issue, and that this is just a case of halting shipments on the suspicion of a quality issue. The SUPRIM line of graphics cards represent MSI's new flagship custom-design line, and the company wants to be doubly sure they're shipping the highest quality cards.

Man, I like MSI but SUPRIM !? And "change the game" !? LOL it's not like 1% better performance is going to change a thing, compared to the cheapest custom card you can find!

You can literally pick the CHEAPEST 3080 and the most expensive 3080, OC both and end up with pretty much identical performance!

Whats even more funny is that some high-end 3070 costs more than cheap 3080, makes no sense. 3070 is a good card but paying a huge premium for cooling on a chip that DOES NOT require much cooling is just stupid. I have tried two different 3070 and both were SILENT and cool...

SURPIM <<<<<<<<<<<<<< Lightning !! I never understand why Lightning cards only comes out sometime, it should be their TOP CARD every GEN on both Nvidia and AMD offering.

It truly is amazing how many people will pay for that 1% performance gap, retail pricing on any card right now is just price gouging due to supply and demand, even if artificially created.

Yea, like using the cheapest possible components to maximize profit margins on their highest priced cards.... only to find out that they screwed up and will probably have to recall a buttload of the defective cards and/or get sued to high heaven because of their greediness.. hahahaha :)

If this turns out to be the case, let all hell break loose and make 1000% certain that those responsible are punished severely, to the maximum extent possible....

the greed... is obvious
the deed..... is done
the bleed........ is happening
the queed....... is the result

Supremely shoddy.

This and the Asus Strix 6800XT LC missing thermal pads on 3 VRAM modules, despite costing 1000usd, seems like AIBs are under so much pressure to make money they forget about QC

did they suprime the suprim?

initially i though that name was ridiculous (or hilarious) due to the meaning in French if you add a E (delete) but now i find it fitting ... they should stay in the "correct spelling" (aka: Supreme) instead of going phonetic like the dumb trend goes on on the internet ...

now about the news ... well better late quality check and shipment on hold than none ... but better quality testing before reviews and launch would be even better ...

They're redirecting them to miners ;)

pre-series sent to reviewers are more or less prototypes. QC is not fully implemented at this stage of production. but anyway for journalists products normally you should provide the best of what you can do and double check everything manually. I guess every body is in the rush now.
but you're right this kind of mistake on a high end product is a bit weird.

the name is ultra weird.
here in China every body is wearing the fake Supreme shit, : clothes, bags, smartphone cases, stickers on cars... most of them probably haven't figured out the "U" thing and hidden meaning...yes it is hilarious !

Paused it to sell it to miners.

Paused it to sell it to miners.

Yep, Eth 2.0 hits soon, miners will be (and have been) eating alot of Ampere / RDNA 2 cards

Eth 2.0, which launches soon, made GPU mining relevant again.

Maybe GPU market will be normal in 6 months. Maybe not.

Although eth2 migrates to PoS, so staking, not more working in mine as eth is PoW.
