MSI is showing off to the public two new tablet PCs at at the DCC event in UAE. While the two are yet to be named, they are most likely to be part of the company's Wind PC lineup for this year's Computex event. The first one is a standard (monolithic) tablet with a 9.7 inch multi-touch screen, which will be running Windows 7, will be powered by Intel Atom processors, taking advantage of its multi-touch UI features, while the second more interesting one has the clam-shell design traditional netbooks, albeit having multi-touch screens on both its arms. You can use it like a netbook when one of the two screens draws a touch-screen keyboard, or use both screens vertically to browse through documents, e-books, and web-pages like reading a book. More details are awaited.

the mPad

m for Microsoft :P

the MSI Courier?? :roll::roll::roll:

The second one looks really interesting. Need the specs, though, before I'll make any real judgments.

Is this called the MSI Guff?

I am rather liking the look of both of these. I have yet to buy a netbook yet and now I'm thinking it's good that I waited.

The second one reminds me of an oversized DS.

2nd one looks really interesting

I cant really see the second being that useful. As a standard laptop typing would be an absolute pain and as an e-book reader the screen would induce eyestrain and headaches. I really dont know what the benefit of this product is...is it a laptop with no keyboard or an ebook you cant see? hmmm iPad syndrome strikes again.
The first seems a bit more promising... slates are easier to carry around and use on the move than standard laptops (when walking perhaps?)
Depends on the quality of the touchscreen...and im not holding my breath.

Now if one of these companies teamed up with a company that actually knew how to make touchscreens like Wacom then that would be awesome! Cintiq slate anyone?

I don't know why to install windows 7 in a machine that cannot handle, really. IMO should go with android or maybe mobile 7 if microsoft is paying you that much. Nevertheless that sucks!

BTW, will it have 3G? Conectivity?

win7 is required for multi touch.

and atoms run 7 just fine as long as its got 2GB of ram.

Just fine. Just fine. Yeap, thats not actually multitasking, not actually having a battery life, not actually, you cannot call that fine! I can multitouch in XP, third party software. I love win 7 as much as the next guy, but is not for a computer that's less than a netbook.

For mobile devices there is mobile operating system. It's like people with vista in netbooks! It just wont work. Well, it will, "Fine" but man, after two months it will take 20 min to open up MsWord.

... wow, you really dont know what you're talking about.

7 can multitask fine. its not slower than XP... in fact its faster, in most cases due to superfetch.

Battery life is often better than XP, due to more ram being used and less HDD activity.

How is this less than a netbook? same hardware, just no keyboard.

Vista was different because it required 2GB of ram to run decently, and hammered the HDD too much at the same time. 7 Doesnt do that.

P.S if your systems take 20 minutes to open word... or even slow down at all after two months you really, really dont know how to use a PC. a year after you install windows it should run the same, if you use basic maintenance (defrag, clear caches, etc)

Sounds like typical 'not-designed-to-be-fast Atom is not fast' complaining to me. Want more speed, simple, pay for it.

i agree, win7 automates most tasks, its a noob friendly OS.

ok
/me dies of sweat, PC is running hawt. along with my room

yeah 7 is RAWRSOME. i think engadget has a video of that 2 screen one going but like i said its slow i seem to remember somone have a video of it up some place

Man, you don't get it. I love Win7, but I use a desktop and guess you do to, when you get mobile the 7 starts to lag.

Yeah, it cleans itself and everything, you wont notice with your dual, cuad, hexa core runing at 3.8. When you get into an atom, at 1.3, 1.6 tops, you are gonna feel you are using vista ina PIII. Honestly, give it a try and answer. My dad got a netbook Vaio with WIN7. It sucks, it has an atom at 1.66, and 3 gigs, nevertheless it sucks, in that machine you could run a mobile OS and get twice the results. That's mostly why people buys iPads and smartfones. They get something that works smoothly.

I wonder if these are coming with the new Z600 Atoms.
It would be great if they did.

I've sen it run on two netbooks, both are used heavily with no real issue. sure you cant edit hd video. but you cant do that on a netbook anyway. enough power to DJ and record music though. and for using it as a pretty much universal controller for every other computer/smartphone/laptop/server in your house.

though a minimum of 2GB ram is advised.
