RIP innovation. RIP power efficiency. RIP value for money.
Exactly.! Whom is this actually for.?

Could an admin ask a poll to this effect please: How many people who might be interested in an X870 chipset motherboard has any need for this new power stuff.?

It's not needed. MSI is the only company that has this so far.

They're showing something else in the video, compared to the press release.

This is the connector in the press release, that appears to be on the boards, in the same orientation as the connectors I posted drawings of above.
It does not conform with any known connectors.

The picture is taken in a reverse manner/reflected by a mirror (or flipped horizontal). This is not a new unknown 8-pin connector. If it was we would see new connectors on Corsairs new 3.1 PSU's from the press release last two weeks. In short this is messed up by the MSI team. There isn't a new released 8-pin power connector from what I know.

Edit. Could be that MSI will provide an adapter with the board that can connect to an PCIe 8-pin power connector. We'll see when the board is out.

Yeah, I thought it was mirrored at first too, as it looks almost like a mirrored GPU connector, but the text in the press release image is the correct way around.
Even if mirrored, one of the pins is square instead of "cut", compared to the GPU power connector.

Regardless, it's very strange and as you say, we'll find out soon enough.

On a side note, it appears that MSI has yet another proprietary connector (it's not a 6-pin GPU connector) for USB PD power...

Here's the correct 6 and 8 pin PCIe GPU power connectors.... Then compare it with the pin layout in the pict draw you posted in #17
