Well I tried nvflash but here is what I got when I tried '--protect off'

image.jpeg

Does this mean I should shell out the big bucks for an EEPROM programmer and clip?

I put a more detailed post in the nvflash thread with the same question in case you think others may benefit from the response: https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/...m-a-bad-video-bios-flash.265939/#post-4281498

OK, so I got my EEPROM programmer and am diving in.

First, here is a picture of the Nvidia graphics chip and the top side of the board:

The chip says (etched):

NVIDIA
12B9B492 1140A1
S TAIWAN
PAC120.M27
A1 (painted on in lower right corner)

4D8BFC58-76F6-42E2-835B-7269A28EE7EA.jpeg

Is this a GF116 A1 or something else (GF114-A1???)?

I also tracked down the EEPROM which is a PM25LD5020

Problems I’m having:

-Confused about which Graphics chip this is

-programmer came w/o any drivers or SW, so need to find utilities and drivers for CH341A

Any help or advice appreciated.

Just try BIOSes for GTS 450 with 1GB of Elpida VRAM.

I think I’ve understood this chip was manufactured week 40 of 2011 meaning it is almost certainly a Fermi chip:

So it could be a:

GeForce GTX 460 GF114 (launched in September 2011)

GeForce GTX 555 GF114 (launched in May 2011)

GeForce GTX 560 GF114 (launched May 2011)

GeForce GTX 560 Ti GF114 (launched January 2011)

If there is any way to narrow down the ID, that would be great. Can any of the other numbers GPU-z reports be trusted (based on HW) or are they all linked to some overall ID which can be faked?

Just try BIOSes for GTS 450 with 1GB of Elpida VRAM.

OK, I’ll give that a try - so just ignore all of the GF114 stuff?

GF116 on GPU-Z is fake information.

The text on the GPU was removed.

12B9B492 1140A1 is most likely GTS 450 or something similar to it.

Well I tried following directions for flashing under windows but get this:

Is these an easy way to give this a try within Win10 (64 or 32)?

If I need to boot into Linux to try this, that may be more trouble than it is worth...

Wow, so there were other painted characters like the A1 on the lower right which were scraped-off? That’s some effort someone is putting into obsfucation...

Do you think there is any meaning to the 1140A1 etched on there?

Found a picture of a GPU in the database with markings very similar to mine:

17405CEE-FF9F-40A4-9DE4-EFD4023CDBA6.jpeg

This one is: 12B9B229
va. mine: 12B9B492

This one is: 1137A1
(week 37 2011 version A1)

vs mine: 1140A1
(week 40 2011 version A1)

This one is marked N12E-GE2-A1 vs. mine which has everything but A1 scraped off.

According to this, N12E-GE2-A1 was for a GeForce G555M: https://www.hklrf.com/N12E-GE2-A1-GPU-NVIDIA-GeForce-G555M_1482.html

Which is a Graphics chip for Mobile, so I’m not sure how helpful that is.

Based on die size, this has to be a Fermi chip and the only options appear to be:

GeForce GTS450 GF106 Sept. 2010 (several cards with VGA)

GeForce GTS450 Rev.2 GF116 March 2010 (one Asus board with VGA)

GeForce GT545 GF116 May 2011 (could not find any GT545 with VGA).

So that GTS450 Rev.2 and especially that Asus board with VGA looks like the best place to start.

Is it worth trying to get the USB flasher to work in windows or will it be much easier to boot into Linux and try from there (in which case any pointers to tutorials for making a Linux Flashdrive and where to get CH341A SW and drivers for Linux would be greatly appreciated...

Sadly no. Every single BIOS I tried has lines on the screen. I'm just using them for parts now.

I have recently bought a similar card, but mine has samsung memory.
I found a bios that "works" but its not fully stable, you can start playing fine but after a few mins it crashes the game. Benchmarking it it doesn't reach high temps. And when I ran a memtest for the gpu it crashed inmediately, so I suspect the frequency of the ram is wrong in this bios. I have no idea if editing it is possible.

Lets get those shitty cards fixed together, I've attached the bios.

Some pics:

A GPU-z screenshot would be helpful.

Hi, I have the same card and this bios helped me, still shown as fake card but the informations at least correct. I used a ch341a programmer. You have to remove the cooler and below that you will find the bios chip. I used Neoprogrammer to upload the firmware.
