Need Recommendations for 4k@120hz DP 1.4(a) to HDMI 2.1 Shielded, HDR highest quality cables.

Hi. I’m desperately trying to get some help on where I can find certain cables. I need 3 super High Quality,Shielded 48gbps Displayport 1.4a to HDMI 2.1 cables. I can’t find any that actually do 4k@120hz deep color, HDR and all the other stuff! reliably. I’ve come across lots of people with the same issue at various online sellers but nobody ever follows up if they found a reliable source or not. I’ve wasted so much time and $$$ now on all kinds of supposedly “real deal” 8k@60hz / 4k@120hz Cables and Ive only come across 1 set that is decent but still can’t handle all the hard settings without acting sketchy.There are lots of high quality sounding “straight” DP or HDMI cables but no DP to HDMI. There’s a new standard for DIsplayport 2.0 but theres only a few suppliers and they don’t make a conversion cable like I need. The little conversion adapters don’t work at this high resolution.

I keep thinking there has to be some European or Japanese or non-Chinese high quality shielded cable out there. I just can’t find any that are DP to HDMI. I guess my rig is one of the hard ones to support for some reason. It’s for Flight Simulation with MSFS 2020 40th Anniversary Edition on Win 11. I’ve got 3 LG 65” C3 OLED’s which take an incredible amount of pixels to look and perfom good. I’m running it on PC with an RTX 4090, I9 149000k and everything else needed to support it all.

Anyone out there found anything or know ny High Quality cable suppliers? I just wanna Fly, not mess around with Video settings all day and night, over and over and over!

The hard part is 4k@120hz, there is no shortage of 60hz solutions. Any solution may depend on where you are. In the UK for example Lindy are a high quality cable and accessories supplier but not cheap. It might be worth considering a DisplayPort 1.4 to HDMI Active Converter. This is one that Lindy do, there may be other suppliers for this.

The best thing to do is buy a 8K certified cable. That way you know you will at least have 120HZ 4K support

I ran through this same issue back when I first purchased my LG G2, a 4k Projector, and a PS5. I bought so many HDMI cables on Amazon that claimed the specs I needed and all of them failed completely or in part. I finally went to Best Buy and just spent $54 for a proper cable that worked perfectly and has been working perfectly since Feb of 2023.

I know you need HDMI to Displayport but maybe this helps.

or

"Monster Cables" while normally a rip-off, can be a decent choice off the secondary market.

There used to be a few US-based companies that offered custom HDMI cables, too.
(Primary assembly in China, still).

I’m going to check these. Thanks to all who gave me a direction to look into. As far as Active Cables I read that using a powered
(active) cable will fry either the video card r the TV or both. I don’t know if this is true but really don’t want to find out.I haven’t had any luck with Cable Matters cables or their adapters. I have been paying quite a bit for various cables that haven’t worked yet. I’ve come very close with SWITCH-FLUX. I have been able to get a pretty stable connection at 4k@120hz but it’s only at YCbCr420 /422 which is kind of washed out and produces so,emtearing. I also have to redo the settings after a reboot of the PC. I’m going to try shielding the cables myself and see if that helps any. I am able to get HDR to work which helps a lot, but not for performance, I would like to see what full RGB looks like,.

The active (powered) cables are HDMI cables with a booster to attempt to maintain signal integrity over longer lengths. One of the alternatives is Active Optical Cable - this is optical fiber with a HDMI to Optical converter at one end and Optical to HDMI converter at the other end. HDMI 2.1 Active Optical Cable can deliver 4k at 120Hz in scenarios where active HDMI will not even display an image.

And while Monster used to be da Bomb for almost anything cable-related, their prices have skyrocketed over the past 5 years, way more than other brands, and their quality has went downhill at the same time...

I still remember those MASSIVE 6ga pure copper speaker cables with really heavy duty see-thru pvc jackets and gold plated banana plugs that I bought back in the day for like $200 for a 15ft set.. they made my 400w/ch stereo w/Bose 901's sound absolutely glorious, and were the envy of all of my hi-fi freak friends at the time.

But that was then, and THAT Monster is long gone unfortunately

In theory the HDMI has higher bandwidth 48 Gpbs vs 32.4 Gbps....but is that the hole Truth or or there other parameters to take into account?

isn't 4K120 impossible if either end is lower than HDMI 2.0b?

I run 4K120 on my HTPC from an RTX 40-series to an LGC2 OLED and the cables that did the job for me (from Amazon) were KabelDirekt 8K HDMI 2.1 cables. They're a good quality German brand that have never let me down where other brands have struggled.

Depends on the monitor's refresh rate and whether it's HDR or not.

If it's HDR 360Hz at 1440p, DP 1.4a won't be enough:

Yeah, active adapters often get used to describe powered HDMI signal repeaters/boosters that let you join cables together to increase length beyond the recommended 5M.

As for Displayport passive adapters, DP++ is something most graphics cards support, and if they detect a passive single-link DVI or HDMI 1.0, the graphics card itself will send those signals through the displayport and the passive adapter just changes the pinout to fit the DVI or HDMI cable. These are the things that used to come bundled free with graphics cards but you don't see them much any more because HDMI 1.0 and DVI were phased out and it's been hard to buy one for several years. Beyond 1080p60 (FullHD) you can't do this passively, it's an antiquated DVI/HDMI 1.0 feature.

Active adapters are required to convert newer DP versions to HDMI - the signal protocols are different and the signal voltages are different. AFAIK HDMI screens expect a 5V signal and DP is only a 3.3V signal, so the converter draws additional current from the GPU to power both its own signal converter and power the higher-voltage I have zero experience with active adapters, but they specifically exist for DP outputs on graphics cards to 48Gb/s HDMI 2.1. Those combined with a decent HDMI cable ought to do the job but you're going to be reliant on two separate parts for each link that requires conversion, and it's probably a good idea to keep these two things separate so you can troubleshoot each individually if you have any issues.

I did a quick search for "DP to HDMI 48Gbps 8K HDR" and it looks like there are loads of adapters but the only ones that have user reviews saying 4K120 HDR at 4:4:4 was working properly were these two:

Crazy setup to run off a 4070 Ti, 3x C3 OLEDs... I run my G3 off a 4080 and even for one TV I think it's plenty of work for it as it is... knowing you'd be building such a niche setup, wouldn't it have been worth it to buy one of the few aftermarket cards that have 3 HDMI ports?

One-up for the Club3D cable though. I use one of their cables myself, works great.
