I bought a Crucial P3 plus 4tb SSD about 3 months ago with a used work laptop. That was the biggest mistake for any used or new computer hardware that I've ever gotten.

I'll be at work trying to transfer some large files while watching a video while it transfers. The entire laptop freezes, I check the task manager, and I see the C: drive at 100%. I returned that piece of junk drive back to Amazon, get another one, same thing. Transfer large files, watch a video while transfer is in effect, laptop freezes, task manager at 100%. I cant return the POS junk drive back since its past the 30 return window, I went on vacation for a few weeks.

I'm now in the process of using one of my 8tb ssd drives in the non-work laptop to the work laptop since I cant have my work buy another SSD. I knew the P3 Plus was a QLC but I didnt know it was cacheless crap SSD. I've had QLC drives in the pass, my 1st and last one was the intel 660p 2tb when it came out in 2018, that QLC drive was fantastic. Never had any freezes on any laptop. I personally used it on 2 laptops over the years, finally gave it to a friend whom to this day still uses it.

So now I'll be sending a few hours to install win 11, drivers, and work programs on my own SSD on a work laptop, while this cacheless crap SSD goes to the other m.2 slot.

Are there any TLC drives that are also cacheless ?

Have you maybe thought of buying from micron directly? Sometimes amazon have bogus parts.

This has been happening with tool batteries recently

Do you need a business account for that?

Crucial.com doesn't require a business account
i'll make a note of it for the future.

I dont want to ask for another SSD from the higher ups since it will take months to get to approved. I bought this SSD with the company card that I get funds every month without approval.
I'll use this SSD for something, it freezes when ever its doing more than 1 thing at a time, goes straight to 100%. I've heard lots of cacheless SSDs have that effect.

Is this on a windows OS & how much system RAM does the device you have the SSD in have?

and UPS batteries and UPS units in general. I'll only buy direct from APC from now on even if it costs more my house and my cats are worth more than saving 20 bucks!!

yeah, experimenting with cacheless and doing big things you normally do with a real cache based ssd doesnt work well.

You never find out till you really multitask like you were.

What if there is some other bottleneck in the system. Have you tried another NVme
It freezes up when its transferring large files while I watching a video waiting for the transfer to complete. I've tried 2 of the same model SSDs. Doest happen with a Corsair mp600 8tb SSD that I installed in its place.
Must be the cacheless system in the SSD.

I ordered a set of RAM from them, better not be what you say they could be... :wtf:

Laptop has 64gb of 5600mhz, SSD is 4tb.

Both SSD are the correct model and size.

I found out the hard way. I'm not sure if the intel 660p SSD that I once used had cache, it seemed it did, maybe small but never had freezing issues.

The intel 660p that I used for many years never did either. The boot up time is slower on the P3 plus vs the intel 660p, takes 2-3 times longer. The current Corsair mp600 that replaced it and the 660p start up time are about similar.

I tried with with 2 different SSDs, the 1st one was returned, both SSD had same issue. Maybe in the future I'll try it on my personal laptop. From searching around, its the cacheless thats the issue.

Its a cheap QLC storage drive.

Every laptop brand had good and bad laptop models. My only gripe about it is the screen quality, i think its 54% of RGB, very washed out.

its not about good or bad. Lenovo has poor quality control in general. Some of their stuff (same model) fail early, some last a long time. Its complete luck.

maybe they upgrade their quality. On reddit laptop gaming subreddits, there seems alot of love for Lenovo, well the higher tier models, not the low end LOQ model.

It still feels pretty good for a low end model, except for the screen. The colors are washed out.

they are popular because they are cheaper than the competition and so they get sold a lot lot more than the others. They are also popular in laptop issue communities

As remixedcat said, very few are actually worth using, personally for lenovo i only stick to the thinkpad series which they acquired from IBM

Have you updated the firmware? Later version after P9CR30A (including P9CR40A and P9CR40D) fixed issues with Lenovo laptops and with the pSLC write cache.
