"The focus of our development has always been to improve the deliverable performance." (Rico Weber, WATERCOOL CEO, Sep.2020). This quote marked the beginning of the development of the new HEATKILLER V VGA cooler. In addition to an increase of performance, the focus also lay on improvements in handling and durability. The HEATKILLER VGA coolers, known for their outstanding workmanship, have also been visually enhanced. In the latest revision for AMD graphics cards of the RX 6800/6900XT series, the HEATKILLER V has been further optimized.

The inflow to the cooling structure has been completely reworked. It now is placed with a vertical offset above a second level. The inlet and outlet channels cross each other, but are spatially separated from each other. The new design allows a symmetrical arrangement of the cooling channels. The advantage of the symmetrical design is a steady flow through the heat sink. Dead zones and hotspots are thus effectively avoided. At the same time the windage is reduced. The HEATKILLER V for RX 6800/6900XT features a vertical cooling structure, which significantly improves the cooling performance even more. The enlarged cooling surface ensures exceptionally low GPU temperatures. To reduce turbulences, all cooling channels were manufactured in a rounded design.

With the new design of the HK V there are no more screws in the visible area, which gives the cooler a very clean and unique look. The two acrylic nickel versions also feature integrated aRGB illumination. Here Watercool uses an LED strip with an immensely high density of 144 LEDs per linear meter. This unusually high number was intended to provide adequate illumination.

The experience gained in the industrial sector brought the high-performance synthetic material "Peek" to attention. This material provides one hundred percent insulation between the cooler block and the graphics card's circuit board. To avoid issues with the threads in the Plexiglas, Watercool inserted a square nut made of stainless steel.

We used of our technical capabilities and designed the backplate for the AMD cooler in such a way that no electronic components are visible anymore. The backplate completely covers the upper part of the PCB and thereby builds a closed unit with the cooler. Meanwhile the aRGB functions remain completely unaffected and further enhance the coolers appearance with the new High-Luminous LEDs.

With the Pre-cut thermal the installation has never been easier before. The award-winning Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut thermal paste ensures the heat transfer from the GPU to the cooler. Even the maintenance has been thought of. By loosening two screws, the stainless steel respectively aluminium bezel can be removed.

There will be optional modifications for the HEATKILLER V VGA. Besides the obligatory backplate, WATERCOOL also thought about modding with a vertical connection terminal made of Plexiglas GS. The HEATKILLER V for RX 6800/6900XT is available in different configurations, suitable for AMD's reference design.
You can choose from a number of different variants. There are Acetal copper versions as well as Plexiglas GS versions with a nickel-plated copper bottom and bright aRGB stripes. The prices vary and start from 134,90 € without optional accessories.

Funny, I was thinking the same. When I went to pick up my 5700G I noticed a huge congregation of 6700XT/6800 on the shelf and asked him what was up with that. He said that no one buys them because they're marked up so badly over MSRP.

Went on the website and sure enough, Radeons are literally overflowing in stock, except 6700XT is officially inflated 66% and 6800 is 78% over MSRP. Meanwhile Geforce cards are still listed at MSRP and supply is so bad that they've long since stopped updating the stock counters. Except 3080 Ti, but it's bundled with stupid PSUs (standard fire hazard for Gigabyte obvs), nobody buys.

Yep micro center has one listing 6900xt marked down now 200.us
Bunch of other models that were there last week aren't anymore so guess they did the same finally and sold them.
The other 22 itens are the sold out ones lol

Slow radeon sales works out perfectly for heatkiller being that these blocks are so late to the game.

Does this mean the cover plates are glued on?
 
No, it's a cover over the actual top and screwed/held in place. Refer to the review linked above for a closer look.
I looked at the review, at first I thought it was a double sided sticky taped on cover plate (the pics of the thermal pads looked like tape! lol), but I see now its built upside down.

Yup, confused me initially as well when I was taking it apart.
 
Well that's a shame, hopefully you can get a few sent to you :)

I'll have a read of the Heatkiller model for the 30 series, got a few of them that could be water cooled :)
GPU samples are extremely hard to come by sadly.
 
Yeah they sure are.. I'm very lucky to have a few of the newer cards each so I'm happy to a degree, but all the over priced crap I still see is terrible, same goes for hard drives as well..

Still, I look forward to TPUs reviews, I'd very much like to try and track down a 6000 series card or two for myself at some point. I really do like the new AMD cards...

You could always get a clean slab of plexi and screw this thing on for the visual experience in a case. I mean, you gotta do something... :ohwell:

My concern I’m beginning to see with backplates is the “total coverage” Having run hot cards like Vega and forward where the Hotspot temps end up being the limiting factor and the highest temp the fact that the back of the chip is exposed at least in my mind will just allow for some possible dissipation and backplates have always left it open. My buddy just got the Red Devil 6900XT with the EK block and assure me there is some kinda of thermal interface there. I’m still sceptical with this aesthetic choice trend.
