No End to GPU Supply Woes: Germany Supplier Hit by Shortage, Pulls Cards

Because the mid range cards are all being eaten up. Anything above a 460/560 for AMD are being eaten up and 1060's/1070's no longer seem to exist. This makes up a vast majority of GPU buyers/users. Sure, maybe they can "join in the fun and profit from it", but with no cards, how? Your recommendation is to use hardware like a commodity? Sorry, but there's way better choices for that.

Demand has overrun supply, it happens. Prices go up until things balance out. GPU makers are happy, they're selling faster than they can make them.
There is ways to look for cards that most people dont know they just dont bother to look for it. I am not saying you can find cards easily and in large quantities, maybe 1 or 2 here and there but enough to make a 6 gpu mining rig.

As a miner I can't say im upset with this shortage.

If amd/nvidia started flooding the market with cards that could be used for mining, diffuculty would skyrocket making my 6 cards less effective pulling the cash down.

As is is looks like difficulty will be manageable till the next round of cards appear.

BTW I game on my 390, so I'm cool there. Might drop the 1070 in the gamer soon though. Best of both worlds?

Crypto miners can get offended all they want, I'm also tired of their useless bullshit. The current situation is total garbage. You literally can't buy a graphic card of choice. It's all so overpriced, they have ridiculously long availability times or they simply aren't obtainable. Wanna buy RX480 or even RX570/RX580? GTX 1060 maybe? Tough luck.

I was looking at RX560 4GB like 3 weeks ago. 125€ Today? Exactly the same one 154€. F**k off. I ended up paying a bit more and grabbing cheapest GTX 1050Ti for the time being at 168€ because I opted for dual fan one with heatpipe cooler instead of singe fan one with block of aluminium as heatsink, until RX Vega gets released. I hear Vega is terrible at mining which is already great news.

@dumbo
He's not tired of reading about crypto miners, he's pissed off because they totally f**ked up the graphics cards market. And so am I.

I buy 2-4 rx470/570/480/580 every week. No idea what shortages you speak of.

Maybe in USA. Here in Europe, it's almost impossible to get hold of them. And if you do, they are ridiculously priced.

I agree that the demand has inflated the market to unfair prices, but part of the blame should be placed on manufacturers. There is no reason they shouldn't be able to keep up with the demands placed on them. At launch they're able to release thousands upon thousands of cards, yet a week to a month later every single store is sold out and none of them have an expected restock date. It seems like manufacturers are intentionally decreasing production upon release.

Really? You know how to run AMD and nVidia?

"There's no reason they shouldn't be able to keep up with demand..."

Armchair quarterback.

I love all of the angry gamers who continue to cry about not having their GPUs. Instead of crying about lack of something, why not join in the fun and learn on why their is a shortage and maybe profit from it.

There are ways to get a hold of certion cards at a small profit mark-up, buy the cards, and then resell them for profit for use them what ever way you want. I'm not complaining, I got my 100+ gpus before the the shortage happened and now will unload most of it for a nice profit.

People, here is one of the people driving up GPU prices, speculators. They hurt legit people trying to buy a mid range card to game because they want to make a profit and make you pay more. All your money are going in to his pockets.

How is any purchaser of a video card less legit than the other? What you are describing is capitalism. Buy low sell high and maximize profit.

Someone can be a legitimate purchaser and still be a jackoff.

Why because someone couldn't buy some dumb middle of the road gpu? I mean oh well. Get over it and move on.

If miners don't care they shouldn't get upset about it. It's pretty simple.

Edit: Strolling around and laughing in someone's face about how they've got 10s, 100s, or whatever number of GPUs isn't going to make miners friends and they should realize this. No one is obligated to be nice to them beyond not breaking the rules of a site.

I mean no one cares that you call them a jackoff. It is however frustrating how every single time there is a video card the gist of it is "those damn miners" I have been waiting for them to be blaimed for vega's delay as well.

See the edit above. I don't particularly care what miners want to do but it's not like the regular customers' point is entirely without merit.

So you are upset they invested their money into a market preventing you from getting one mid range card. If they were able to get 10s to 100s or whatever why couldn't you get one? Did you not have the drive to wake up early on shipment day to buy or order one? Why is it their fault you didnt go to the store 4 months ago? I fail to see how everyone can blame miners when I still can walk into the store and buy video cards every single time I go.

Presuming I want something because I disagree? I'm not in the market for a new card until the next Nvidia series is out and it'll be an x80 or x80ti. I'm locked in with Nvidia because I like Gsync.

I'm not saying miners don't have a right to buy the cards. I'm saying I get why people are upset about reasonable options being limited or gone and the miners should be able to see that too.

I mean they aren't gone, just more expensive.

This is the same thing when adele, the female singer, started her touring. Lots of ticket buyers bought more tickets than to resell them driving up the cost of the tour tickets. I would see them on ebay for much more than face value. I wasn't jealous or anything, I was mad that I was too late to buy some, they where already sold out.

This shortage has little to do with mining, even with the latest wave of hype it's nowhere big enough to consume all these products. Both Pascal and Polaris have been in short supply several times since launch, and it has to do with extreme demand in general. Both consumer and professional demand is higher than the last generation, especially the professional/data center market, where a lot of Nvidia's wafers are tied up at the moment.

I remember the first Bitcoin mining fever, and that time AMD card really had an advantage for this workload, but it didn't make any impact on AMD's revenue since the volume is simply too low.

I wonder why my comment was removed ?

The person who did so speak up for the reason as to why.

I didn't remove it but looking at it I would assume it was removed because you were inferring that anyone that gets butthurt by anyone talking bad about mining is a dickhead?
