NVIDIA RTX Remix Community is a group of game developers remastering popular games from the past. "Quake II RTX" and "Portal with RTX" were extremely well received, and the community now turned its sights to a cult classic—Half-Life 2. When it came out in 2004 (that's 19 years ago!), Half-Life 2 already set standards for realism, and invented several new gameplay mechanics. It is believed to have edged past "Doom 3" in art direction and production quality for the time; and now the RTX Remix Community is inviting game modders to join the effort at this page.

Four of HL2's top modding teams, known as Orbfold Studios, is leading the effort within the community, at remastering the entire game—an effort on a much larger scale than "Portal." The remaster will include full ray tracing effects, support for DLSS 3 Frame Generation, RTX-IO, and modernized assets (higher resolution textures, higher poly-count models, with support for modern surfaces and geometry. The teaser from NVIDIA includes a picture of the HEV Suit from the game, and a scene from the game showing just how much more advanced the game is shaping up to be! The company didn't announce any timeline to go with Half-Life 2 RTX, since it is still in development.

Is there just something about Source that makes this easy to do or something?
After Portal we get HL2?

...ah man now I want Dark Messiah of might and magic in RT.....or l4d, that could be interesting.

But yeah still...

Dark messiah was such a great underrated game.

I believe it's because Source is such an ancient engine, that it's extremely well-understood by modders.

For me this is the only reason I feel bad for selling my 3060 Ti for getting an RX 6800.

you reaaaally shouldnt be, the rx6800 is way faster and with the 3060ti you are going to run into vram issues anyway.

ofc, but these RTX games run extremely bad. Portal RTX was no go same as the first Half Life RTX mod. I mean, I have played these games at least twice, but RTX Remix is indeed cool, especially for older games which I have yet to play. Other than that the 6800 is a beast and runs suprisingly cool and quiet. Did not even need to upgrade the PSU or anything.

This is basically the only reason i went with nvidia this round.

I see they're making morrowind, and I hope that trend continues. There are so many great games that would be amazing to replay using RTX.

and you think those games would be good on a 3060ti?
I mean the poor running on AMD hardware there has a lot more to do with Nvidia then AMD as well, its just kinda anti AMD in its setup.

Right now "easy" to do due to Portal RTX.

The Half-Life RT mod ran flawless for me.

the new shiny is shiney

What for? I could run Q2RTX fine on RDNA3... 2 can do it too I reckon

This is how Portal RTX runs on a 6800XT sadly
It is anti AMD, and I hate it.

which card are you using? I saw this review here and did not even bother

Oh, path traced. Not even a 4090 runs that proper. You can choose to care about that or you can just shrug and move on :)

This is marketing.

RTX 4070 Ti

Enjoyed playing through Portal RTX but Half-Life 2 RTX... Yes please! With a dollop of DLSS 3.5 on top nom nom nom.

Portal RTX does not run well on the 3060ti. And honestly it's not worth it IMO. It's not like the game magically gets better.

But yeah, if RTX Remix becomes a bigger thing Nvidia might be a good idea. Deus Ex and Thief 2 would definitely sell me on it...

Cult classic? HL2 is an unqualified classic.

Based on today's ADHD standards, HL2 is way too long and mostly plays like a walking sim now.
Yes, especially for addle-brained kiddies in 'Murika.

Japanese gamers play 100+ hr RPGs with enormous amounts of written dialogue (and the Japanese read *everything*) and most of them are young:

The average American gamer under thirty looks at two sentences and thinks "TL;DR".

BG3 was the 2nd most successful PC game launched this year and its like 100 hrs long. And im talking actual content with reactive story not just copy past bloated fetch quests like AC Valhalla and FF16
Hogwarts was the most successful one this year and it's also pretty lengthy. Your arguments make no sense

That doesn't mean people are actually reading the prompts. Just because it's in the game doesn't mean people play it as intended.
I've watched plenty of people playing BG3, DOS2, etc, and they just blast through the dialog. This is why I don't like playing co-op in my RPGs.

I’m excited to try this out!
