One of our readers dropped us a note that Nvidia itself has decided to leak some information about its upcoming Geforce 3xxM notebook series.

This is something that hasn’t been announced yet and might very well be the branding for Fermi GT300 based mobile chips, but at this time we don’t know.

The top brand is Geforce GTS 360M followed by Geforce GT 335M and Geforce GT 330M. The lower market segment will get Geforce 310M as well as Geforce 305M.

We managed to capture a screen shot before it was too late as its already gone from the site. Thanks for the great tip, but the driver linked with these brands was unfortunately not leaked, so we didn't get our hands on it.

Viral marketing to a product they don't have or a leak?

AMD jacks up 5850 prices

Why am I putting this apparently off-topic post in my thread on the nvidia GT300? Because this makes for a good example of what happens when competition drops and you approach a monopoly. Didn't take them long did it?

Come on nvidia, pull your finger out.

ATI has decided to increase the prices of Radeon HD 5850 cards due to huge demand and effective immediately the Radeon 5850 will cost any given partner some $15 to $20 more.

Supplies of GTX 260 & 285s is pretty tight too, helping AMD.

Fermi GF100 to launch by early December

That's Fudzilla's title and I really couldn't put it any better.

Fermi, Nvidia's GF100 40nm DirectX 11 chip is selling great even though Nvidia still has to officially launch it. Sources confirmed that Nvidia is taking pre-orders like there is no tomorrow, but at this time Nvidia offers no guarantees when the chip will hit the market. Everyone expects shortages due to heavy demand from day one.

I'm not saying which site.

wow... lol... at the very least they could leak some benches - anything, i mean even some random bars drawn next to some other random bars saying "we believe it to be 25% faster"

They havent done ANYTHING... usually at least someone in china sneaks into the factory and steals a card. Makes me think that there are no cards being made... which means we are still a few months off. Maybe an early december paper launch with no availability until late jan/feb.

Oh and that "dummy" fermi card doesn't count since it was probably a g92 variant with the PCB cut to fit a fermi cooler.

yea i agree with phanbuey. But honestly this is nvidia, n they should have gathered enough resources over the years of being on top to put into the GT300 to have it complete by now, so something must be going terribly wrong. Even for a brandnew architecture, i mean going from 7950gt to 8800GTX was a bigger change in architecture than the GT200 to GT300 will be or at least sounds.......maybe nvidia is feeling like phanbuey's kitty? lol

haha I think so too... They say its the next g80 but its sounding like this is going to be more like the FX series .

NV30 = GT300?

This was them in May:

"After the conference call last night, nVidia was feeling very confident that the company is on the right track... and there is a pretty good reason why. We spoke with several sources and they're quite optimistic that they will be able to release their DirectX 11 GPU ahead of ATI's RV870 chip."

So clearly whatever is happening is NOT according to plan. My spidey senses are telling me that the fan is throughly revolving in s**t, as the latter has clearly hit the former over at NV some few months back.

lol now that would be downright hilarious for them to spend all this time and money only for it to perform marginally better than the GT200.

well see it should most definitely be helluva lot better according to specs...but i've been wondering for the longest time that since the shaders are more MIMD oriented(though i heard not fully multi) than SIMD if they're going to perform that much better for if it could barely help performance. Kinda like would it be better to build a pyramid having slaves use huge blocks, or each slave use single little blocks. With the shaders being MIMD i'm curious how efficient it'll be cause i'd think games would need to be coded to take advantage of the multi shader processing just like we need games to be coded to make use of multi cpu cores.

lol hey now, i read all what that dude posted n honestly some of it isn't far fetched, you should read some what he said in the "HD 5870 below expectations". some of it i didn't agree with but alot i did. n i welcome him to voice his opinion alot of what a minority says actually has some sense to it n makes us think.

I know, ben has a very good grasp of the big picture and I can tell he reads/knows a lot about it all, its just his glasses are a bit too much green tint so I can poke fun at that :) some of the things he writes about one side and the other are just ridiculous

That article was writen following rumors of Ati being late. That is, that Nvidia always wanted to release it in November and Ati could release later. It's Ati releasing first which has changed. That Ati was going to release before schedule made to the news so it's not really a surprise. Besides:

GT300 is coming before the RV870, if TSMC does not mess up completely.

TSMC did screw up, so that changes things a bit don't you think? Does that mean they have nothing? Nope.

Hope you enjoy the post. Not long enough? Keep in mind I was not going to post at all.

The yields man. The same problems that prevented AMD from releasing RV740 properly is still affecting both AMD and Nvidia. Nvidia with the biggest part is even more affected, while under normal conditions they wouldn't have a problem.

dam, i mean we've all heard yield issues but i didn't think they were still that big of a problem. I thought and just have a gut feeling that the GT300's issues were nvidia related n not TSMC. I'd think they'd have to be, cause if i were nvidia i'd have at least leaked some BS specs of the chip just to keep people thinking, ok they're making progress. Instead most of us are thinking, ok they're stumped at the time being.

The yield issue was a non-issue. I don't know what most people here understand about the industry, but for first silicon you only need one working chip and by all reports they had 7.

Leaking info won't represent a different in the real world, only for some of us. I'd like to see something too, but I understand why they don't do it and got patient. Remember that AMD didn't disclose any performance until a week prior to launch or so. Those "leaked" AMD slides were fake, I mean they had to be, 90% over the GTX285 lol.

AMD still has some cards to release, so Nvidia is better off not showing anything. They don't have anything to compete right now. We can all agree to that and AMD doesn't have enough cards to make a big difference either. There's a shift to AMD happening, of course, but leaked GT300 info wouldn't change that. They would reduce demand for AMD cards, probably, but not enough to make AMD sell less cards than they are, they are not selling all the cards demanded.

So if Nvidia is confident they have a winner and it looks like they are, it's better to mantain it a shock surprise. It will have a much greater psichological effect.

The yield issue was a non-issue. I don't know what most people here understand about the industry, but for first silicon you only need one working chip and by all reports they had 7.

I mean production yields. As you know it takes time to make enough cards to meet the demand and apparently the demand for Fermi is huge. And no wonder since it will be selling in 3 markets. That's alot of cards you need. Keep in mind that Nvidia, as a bussiness that it is, will try to (has to) aim to release as many cards as required to follow the historical of late 30% of global market share (compared to AMD's 18%). That's twice as many chips as AMD and chips are larger, so it takes more time and remember than AMD has problems too.
