Odd. I'm an ATI owner and i've been praising the GTX 580, trying to not buy one so i can gauge the competition when it comes out in December. Your post is ignorant with regards to scaling:

So the 6 series scales better in dual gpu config. Granted, on 5 series, the sli option is better but the 6 series nailed it well.

As for hard core NVidia haters (not a nice comment to use - hate is such a strong word) - i think at christmas we'll get a fair choice. My personal feeling is that indeed the 6970 isn't faster than a 580. I think if it was faster there would be some leaks out from AMD PR to say, look, our card is better - hold off buying that 580. But if it doesn't perform as well, there's nothing to leak - better safe to stay quiet.
Hope i'm wrong because if i'm not the 580's will go up in price.

I think though that you're way off base. Most people do tend to take sides but 'hating' isn't part of it. It more shows your own predisposition against AMD. But at least you wear your colours on your sleeve. It makes you prone to make erroneous statements (a la the one above ref: scaling).

You can't really compare 580 and 68xx in terms of multi card scaling. A pair of 68xx's will become the bottleneck LONG before a pair of 580's do. The 580's run out of work to do at lower resolutions more quickly than the 68xx's.

At 2560 res is where they are pretty even in terms of scaling, as both setups are still being pushed hard.

Lower end GPUs scale better, always has been always will be.

1 GTS450 is 58% of GTS450 SLi (all resolutions) that is very close to 100% scaling.

And you have to realize that the higher performance the cards, the more they will be bottlenecked at the lower resolutions. Hell, SLi GTX580s would probably still be somewhat CPU bottlenecked at 1920x1200.

Is it just me or did some retailers drop the price on the GTX 580 ? Many of them are now starting at $500 instead of around $570 the other day. I'm seeing GTX 480s more expensive at some retailers still too.

Overcockers, sorry OverclockersUK are price gouging for sure. Only have the ASUS board in stock and it's £459.99. They'll do this until the HD 6970 comes out. Same way the 6850 and 6870 prices generally increased almost immediately.

I think you should start looking for a new e-tailer like scan, palit 580 for £399.99 and in stock, asus 580 £410 and in stock also the 6870/6850 have dropped between £15 and £25 since launch.

eBuyer cancelled my order because the 580s have gone out of stock. That's bullshit. I pre-ordered within minutes of them becoming available, one should have been allocated to me.

I just grabbed the last one off YoYoTech. I would have used Scan, but they will only ship to my home, and there's nobody there during shipping hours anymore.

which is true for all flagship cards, the gtx295 and 5970 are the same. If the does manage to match or beat the 580 then I'd imagine poor sacling except at high reolutions as well.

Would be an excellent upgrade from an 8800GT Gonna wait and see what AMD bring out though.
