But 0% price increase.

Yeah but its a weird move non the less imo.
You have RTX2080's out there, those wont sell now really, unless you drop the price decently enough.
And you fill up the shelves with new cards with only a 4% increase that you suddenly hope people will buy?

What person would not have bought an RTX2080 up untill now but will buy one that is 4% faster?

Not to mention relatively soon enough we will have all new cards which probably have some good improvements on the main selling points of these cards, the ray tracing capability.

Might be more than a 4% increase in performance though. It will come with faster VRAM and the GPUs could be well binned and able to reach higher clocks than the present 2080. I don't anticipate more than an overall 10% increase in performance if even that much over the present 2080. We will see soon.

Saw this relative performance 10% on TPU page. If this turns out to be true, that's a decent increase.

R.I.P. My 2080

"The more you buy, the more you save" - Jensen Huang

Well sure it looses some value, but it still does not make it worthless. One thing is for sure though, there's no much point of upgrading from rtx 2080 to rtx 2080S. Unless you can do it by some kind of step up program like EVGAs.

There is no point releasing something 4% faster midlife of the series other than to punish and clear stocks at the same time, next gen could be 40-60% faster at same power in 9 months, of course 20% higher price. So the insult be even greater quicker. they punished 2070 users so much so that lesson learned next time they will go for the absolute beast 104 or 102 chip at launch instead of 106. If you bought 2070 you have been deep learned. Nvidia knows their stuff. but really 15.5 what kind of joke, why not 16. unacceptable.

15.5 Gbps actually concerns me a bit: If it is OC 14Gbps memory that would be awful. But if it is underclocked 16Gbps memory that would be awesome, that OC headroom...

Benchmark Scores Faster than yours... I'd bet on it. :)
my guess is, once you put a OC on it on a nice air cooler - it will match a 2080 ti across the board. this is my hope anyway. 2080 ti still has more vram, and will still be faster once it itself is oc'd so i don't think people will complain too much about the price issue, its obviously an enthusiast level card not many people drop 1200 on a card.

if this is the case... i may indeed get a 2080 super.
Remember, there is nearly twice the performance gap between the 2080 and 2080ti than there were the other cards (over 20% IIRC)... so I doubt it will catch up to a 2080 TI. The other cards about split the 10-15% difference.

Yeah but its a weird move non the less imo.

Wasn't it already mentioned they are not producing the 'base' models anymore?

out of topic, I was wondering if the 2070 Super can nvlink with the 2080 since they're the same chip I think... if that's the case, then maybe the 2080 Super can link with 2080ti?

Yeah, Im not implying they are, im saying the stock that is on the shelves now wont be moved unless they drop the price.
And then replace those, not sold till this day cards, with the same card that is 4% faster and expect people to suddenly now buy them.

I would find that very odd.

I'm gonna have a hard time holding off on buying one of these. My 1070 is showing its age and i want to play Cyberpunk 2077 with raytracing next year. Been dying to try Quake 2 with RTX as i played that game to death when it came out on my VooDoo 2. I might wait for a 3000 series.

2080ti has 4352 cuda cores. Way too much of a difference to make up. I expect no more than 2000mhz OC sustained. on top out of the box this card is probably going to hit 1900+ anyways. So I highly doubt you are going to see it match 2080ti. Too much of a gap there.

The 2080 Super is in no way going to be as powerful as the 2080 Ti. There is a 1,280 core difference between them.

4% only? Now I'm thinking, if there's any point releasing it. Although if the price for 2080 drops that might be worth something.
It's a refresh, more performance per dollar. Minor progress is better than no progress.

Then I recommend buying when you need it, not in case you need it. Save your money until then, and make a purchase that lasts longer.

I don’t think the 2070 Super and 2080 will be able to link, but the 2080 Super and 2080ti will definitely not be able to because the 2080 Super is actually on a different chip than the 2080ti.

They will, because that's how capitalism works. As soon as a new model is released most consumers don't want the old one, hence retailers drop prices like crazy on old models to clear inventory. This is why e.g. Newegg has Ryzen 2700X for $150 today.

If you are a smart consumer, you know that one-generation-old doesn't mean useless, so you turn this to your advantage and get that tech at massive discounts.

For value buyers, the best time to buy is usually right after a new hardware launch, and buy the previous generation for cheap. The same thing happened with Pascal GPUs last year.

I tend to think that minor progress is worse than a leap forward.
This 4% minor progress. I know what you mean and it is still than nothing but the question is what triggered the progress? And of course if the progress you mentioned is everything you could achieve or is it so low on purpose? I bet it's the second one.

But 0% price increase.
So we have to be happy about NV not raising the already ridiculous prices?

You want to play a game on FHD with barely enough fps? Just wait for the next gen, the RT feature will improve for sure.

it is hard to believe that you could possibly be that clueless. there is ZERO chance that a 3072 core 2080 super could oc enough to match a 4352 core 2080 ti.

2080S has better memory bandwidth which may/or may not impact performance in games that are sensitive to memory bandwidth. According to TPU 2080S will be 6% slower in relative performance from 2080Ti FE. This means if the OC potential is right, it may come close or even surpass it in some cases. It's not all about core count.

We've had a refresh on pretty much every generation, so having a leap followed by a small step should be expected.
The progress is "triggered" by improved yields.

What? The 2080ti has loads more bandwidth than the 2080 Super

oh? a 5700 xt ties rtx 2080 ti in two games. F1 2018 and I forgot the other one but its vulkan based. if more companies focused on vulkan 5700 xt would be beating 2080 ti. sadly that isn't happening. neat story you got though bro, cores are all that matters your right. or maybe it's the industry gets pushed to code games a certain way and Nvidia has a major financial hand in that being the dominant market.

Oh! You're using an statistical outlier to build your argument, smart. It's a very typical mistake to derive an anecdote from a cherry-picked exception to serve your agenda.
I do want developers to use Vulkan, but the games we have so far is using an abstraction layer to simulate Direct3D 11, which defeats the purpose of the new API, and we have no statistical basis to claim that AMD is inherently better in Vulkan, yet all over the forums people claim AMD do, and even a couple of reviewers.

My god you are just as clueless as he is. I thought there would be at least halfway intelligent people in this forum but I guess I was wrong.

What in the hell does that have to do with what I said to you? The 2080 super and 2080 TI are the same architecture you ignorant twit. The 2080 TI has way too many cores for an overclock on the 2080 super to even come remotely close to matching it. Stick to commenting on YouTube where people with similar intelligence seem to hang out.
