Does this mean the RTX3060Ti will also be pushed back further? We were expecting it to launch at the end of October.

It appears that AMD have got Nvidia covered this generation. They are not impressed by the 3090. Nvidia cannot beat AMD in a price war as they operate with a higher margin. I feel that 'big navi' will beat the 3080 and therefore can beat any 3070 and can do it at a lower selling price. They will take some market share from Nvidia this time around.
Hopefully, nVidia has been milking people too much, the RX5700XT matched the Radeon 7 with less CUs and much lower memory bandwidth (again Micron/nVidia HBM2 is the fastest graphics memory), and RDNA already beat comfortably Turing price for price in theory an 80 CU RDNA would've beaten the 2080ti.
AMD could put an end to nVidia's practice like they did with Intel, we need competition, GPUs prices are out of control.

I suspect the demand will still exceed supply, but with the 3080 fiasco lessons learned hopefully this will still be much smoother for buyers

Lesson learned indeed - that thirsty fanboys will be trampling each other to get it, so double down on what was done with recent launch :D

how many times do we already heard something like this?

The situation is very different now. Ampere has very high power draws which require expensive power delivery and cooling solutions (not to mention GDDE6X doesn't seem cheap). AMD, on the other side, if efficiency gas gone up the way leaks are suggesting, may be able to pull out similar performance with cheaper components (VRM, cooling and memory).

realistically we don't really know how much the card really cost. with RDNA vs Turing before they also said AMD will easily win the manufacturing cost due to being small vs nvidia comparable....until we know the truth more with RX5600 release. TPU even asking AMD board partner directly about this and for those that sell both nvidia and AMD cards they said they can get much better profit margin on nvidia comparable cards which pointing to nvidia manufacturing cost is cheaper.

That's not true, you have many informed people calculating bills of materials for these cards (Igor, Jim from Adored, MLID, etc.).
The only thing which is really difficult to estimate is how much 7nm capacity AMD is willing to allocate to GPUs, knowing that when they put this capacity into EPYC chiplets they make LOADS of money with it.

Very little, they have another segment that generates more cash and better yet is a more reliable source of revenue : consoles.

$499 I'd like to see that.

499 or no buy, pretty simple. The 1080 was around that mark too, I don't intend to stretch it further.

Informed people flinging shit at a wall, is what you mean. They are guessing just as much as anyone else, they just waste more time on it. Every time its only half true what they spout, they get a leak and run with it, but all of the info is incomplete and therefore utterly useless. Half the facts are worth nothing, except they serve very well to keep fans busy.

Clickbait, mostly.

Or is it that Nvidia's mindshare allows them to set insane premiums?

What if RX 6900 XT is $799 and performs like RTX 3090? RX 6900 XT has 5120 shading processors and it's twice of RX 5700 XT.(In leaks)
Why will it release on 29th October instead of 26-28th? (AMD's showcase on 28th October)
Will RTX 3070's price reduce? (499 to 399-449)

Please AMD improve your drivers for buyers and supporters.

Performance gap between RTX 3070 and RTX 3080 is:
8704/5888 = 4352/2944 is same as RTX 2080 to RTX 2080 Ti but RTX 3080's bandwith huge to compare with RTX 3070 but it differences like 5% not so much.

rtx.PNG

I think RTX 3080 is 26-30% powerful than RTX 3070. So, RTX 3070 = RTX 2080 Ti+0-4%.

Right, because you believe one needs at least 10 PhD's in order to find the price of a cooler, or a heatsink, or a capacitor? Or a DRAM module?
Indeed, that must be uber hard, I imagine that also people doing bills of materials professionally must have at least 10 PhD s.

Jeez, I get tired of TPU experts sometimes...

MLID's former job was just that, calculating BOM's. In any case, it's not rocket science, all you need to do is be exhaustive and spend a little bit of time to find references with prices. It's not very complicated, people who do this professionally don't even need to have a University degree.

Yeah it's got nothing to do with AMD announcing their cards around the same time.
Jensen wants to beat their pricing. Simple as that.
This time AMD will be jebaited

I read ... need time to fix the capacitor issue. The shortage will be even worse as being into the price range of bigger customer base.

nGreedia are very worried about AMD, aren't they! So much so that they blame the pushed back launch of the 3070 on their customers... Nothing to do with that they have no idea how to price or market this card yet...

nGreedia's marketing are truly customer hating scum.

I think RTX 3080 is 26-30% powerful than RTX 3070. So, RTX 3070 = RTX 2080 Ti+0-4%.

Here is my hope. Vega had 4096 shader units vs the 5700's 2304. The 5700 is just as fast in most cases and faster in a lot of cases (Maintan's clock speed better) than Vega. If they have said that RDNA2 is a 50% performance improvement per watt over RDNA. That could indeed translate into a card with serious horsepower.

no no no no. it can't be that simple; merely a coincidence that has happened recently.

something nefarious must be going on!

YOU should read more things.... the caps issue has all but been resolved by a driver, bud.

from what i've read the driver increases voltage while limiting the boost clock. i wouldn't consider that a fix; a filthy dirty band aide at best. a firmware with correct voltage/boost tables would be better, imo.

Potato, potatoe...but agreed. The bottom line is that the symptoms have been resolved. Also, if you watch some of the vids, you'll see the caps don't make a huge difference. A BIOS would be better... but then you have potatos flashing it too...

They may have a good reason to delay RTX 3070, or they may not. Either way, I think its good time to get RTX 2070 or 2080s right now for people with resolutions 1440 and below.
If they would have adjusted prices this could be true. But at least over here in Germany the 2080S still retails for more than 630€, which is no reasonable deal compared to the 3080 MSRP
That's not how it works,GPU's dont scale linearly that.
They do as long as the Front-End and Memory can keep up(later could be an issue on BN if it really just goes with a 256Bit MI). Just compare e.g. 8800GT and GTX280 since that was nearly a direct 100% scale of everything without much else changing
Or 7870 Vs 290x
Very little, they have another segment that generates more cash and better yet is a more reliable source of revenue : consoles.
In the past the console deals were not very lucrative compared to retail sales. I would be surprised if that changes this time around.

Delay two weeks... for (what appears to be) a driver tweak........on a card that is still two weeks away? Can't say I buy that. They have time to do so.
Devil's advocate here, I don't think this driver fix took 2 days, I'm pretty sure Nvidia were aware of it and were working on it for some time. It's only us who were aware of the problem only for 2 days. Remember, FE cards were crashing, too.
