It's not been lacking in efficiency. power use =! efficiency.

watts/frame Ada was the most efficient nvidia has ever made, and a damn sight better than AMD or intel. Blackwell has roughly the same efficiency on the same node.
No, it's not.
It's +1% it's complete a joke to call its power efficiency "good".

So if the best is not "good", what alternative are you comparing to?

One will need to buy approximately 170 thousand RTX 5090s, or invest at least $340 million USD + VAT in order to get one football field worth of RTX 5090s.

Now that RTX 5090 has been measured in football fields we can go back to actual gaming.
A football field is 360 feet long x 160 feet wide. so an area of 57,600 square feet

FE RTX 5090 has an area 0.448295128125 square feet

so 57,600/0.448295128125 = 128486.7855711766

need 128,486 5090s to fill a football field (with a bit of room to spare for a couple chili dogs and some fries).

Yards squared, furlongs squared, Big Gulps squared, or hamburgers squared are also acceptable units.

Hurray, now we also measured it in American football fields! (my measurements were accurate for soccer)

I was waiting for the 5090 to be released with the intention to purchase one, however, that was prior to the specs being released, I changed my mind on seeing the specs.
The reviews show the 5090 to be a shade higher in performance than what I had anticipated but not by much.
After seeing the specs and now the reviews, for all intense and purpose it's pretty much nothing more than a 4090 Ti, it's clearly a very powerful card but not a next generation card and that wattage usage is frightening!

While the 5080 is going to be the next best thing, I am looking at the 5070 Ti, mostly because I don't see the 5080 offering more than 10/15% better performance than the 5070 Ti while costing 30+ % more.
Even then I think I'll wait for the 9070 XT reviews, it may ultimately not offer what the 5070 Ti offers but it could still end up offering the best bang for buck...

It looks like my previous comment war pretty spot on. This... is.... BullSh!T!!! Everything is just marketing and disinformation.

As the guy Steve on Hardware Unboxed says "the new 4090ti...".

Thank you, new cooler seems worth its salt then, extra 6C for a jump of 370W to over 500W.

Timestamped link.

Also I forgot to post this earlier, if Nvidia chopped one of the corners off, it would make installation in a case much easier, access to screws, maybe other corner as well for symmetrical look.

I don't care at all about this card.
What I care about is the new RTX 5080's performance compared with the RTX 4090. If it doesn't beat it by 30% at least, this generation is one of the worst in nVidia's history.
Almost as bad as the GTX 9800 vs the GTX 8800.

Now I understand why Nvidia did not charge 3000 usd for this gpu. This is just a 4090ti. The next nvidia gpu on 2nm will be 3k, you can quote me.

How do you expect half of what 5090 is... to be around 30% faster than 4090, when the 5090 is exactly that. :D

Computerbase tested it. Unlike the 4090, it scales with more power so lowering the power limit does come with tradeoffs, depending upon the game. Space Marine 2 is probably the worst case in their benchmark suite.

It should be around 8% slower than RTX 4090 by current leaks. May be the worst will see.

I am really impressed by cooling efficiency. Incredible results. Good job Nvidia. Wonder how much does liquid metal contribute to this. Hopefully someone will test it, eventually.
You already have your answer in the review

Finally! We get to see the liquid metal that's used by NVIDIA to improve thermal transfer between the GPU and the heatsink. From here on, be careful with the Liquid Metal, so you don't spill it on the card. When I put the card back together I used a very thin layer of thermal paste and full-load temperatures now reach 79°C, just 2°C higher than the out-of-the-box condition, which is still reasonable and good enough to avoid thermal throttling.

If it's 1% better than the most efficient card on earth, then it is, by definition, the new most efficient card on earth.

Pulling 600w on its own does not make something inefficient.
