Dear NVidia,

There are a great many people who either can not or will not buy a new GPU until prices come down. They're simply unwilling to pay prices that are hyper inflated. Do something about this problem and be snappy about it.

I got an answer directly from nvidia. Not edited, pasting directly:

Dear Poor Guy,
Go eat a bag of ****! Why not get twice the profit while we can?

Scalpers aren't really the problem. Direct sales to miners are.
not really a problem..

that's eBay only.

I've been looking but can't seem to find a break down of the direct to miners sales volume. I'm interested in seeing those numbers.
edit-- I did find this.

What are they basing this expectation on? Ethereum finally maybe possibly going proof-of-stake for real?

Strongly disagree. The only reason you shouldn't buy a GPU now is if you can't afford the initial outlay. Financially, it's a great investment since they don't depreciate like they used to. I bought a used GTX 1080 Ti in October 2020 for $550 - well after mining drove up prices of all cards. My card can be resold for about the same amount today. If we were in olden times I would have lost about $200 in depreciation by now.

Absolute nonsense.

And that it the way it should be. That is the proper cycle of technological progression. To suggest otherwise is to promote stagnation.

Especially if you ramp up production of previous generation technology! Seriously pointless in adding 12GB of memory to a 2060 IMO.

Have to disagree. There are plenty of instances where 12GB is better than 6GB and 16GB is better than 8GB. While such memory usage is not mainstream yet, software technology marches forward and memory usage will go up. It's always worked that way and always will. An RTX2060 is plenty powerful to utilize 12GB of VRAM for optimized code.

Ehm, it's only the second available option in the poll.

P.S. It is Wednesday, my dude! Aaaaaaaaaah!
I missed the poll because forums. It does make sense as the forums here love a good conspiracy.

What are they basing this expectation on? Ethereum finally maybe possibly going proof-of-stake for real?
I imagine they are more basing it on the pandemic supposedly starting to wrap up.

Except you also have gddr6 supply issues.

not really a problem..

that's eBay only.
And those prices pretty much match the retail prices right now (at least in EU). So no, scalpers aren't a problem because cards are available but they are already massively price gauged before they even reach retail stores.

They have decided paper launches are not cool.

Now they are doing trading cards :p

'Trading cards' get a whole new meaning, indeed, lol

Nvidia: well, shit. But at least we got our special RT tech for those content creators making nice games for PC gam... well, shit. But at least we got the console market where we have a firm grip on our RT pu.... well, shit. I guess I'll be wearing the same leather jacket next year.
*Miners stopped mining as the altcoins all appear shitcoins after all*
Nvidia: hey, we got this leftover stock of Ampere cards... any gamurs left? We'll even sell them through our website at our flashy new halved MSRP!
*Poor guy buys 400 dollar 3070 and rejoins PCMR Reddit*

Here's how "limited" the supply is in Poland:
1638956922067.png

These 3060 Ti's are almost €1000 and yet when you type in "999" as number of units their system will cut you off at 398, which means they have as many in stock.

And just so it isn't some fixed value:

You could deduct that the € 1000,- price tag and the 398 cards in stock are somehow related. I know I do.

People aren't stupid unless they have too much money. The market will self correct this, it just takes time. Refer to above post ;)

I don't know of other markets, but locally shops are stacked. They have the stock, but the prices are kept at 200% markup. The importer is giving cards at retail prices, it's the retailer who are scalping now, simple.
It's only going to diminish the DIY market, as the pre-builds are very reasonably priced with holiday discount. Sure they are shit in comparison to DIY but at least they have warranty to cover their mediocre build.
I gave away my two GPU to my friends from my builds and have one working build with 2060S. If I need to buy a GPU, I might as well be buying a laptop/pre-build desktop. Retailers can go screw themselves. I will buy from Amazon, simple. Have seen too many a time this kind of price gouging. It was AMD who released the first 1000 USD$ CPU, not Intel. Am literally too old for this crap, and who so ever is priced right will have my business. Gaming is not a priority so high to pay 200% mark up simple, especially when there are options to buy reasonably.
"Due to pandemic" is the excuse to rip the common man off at every point possible.

Amen!

But as someone abive said, just let them be. When they can't clear the stock in 2 or more years, it will teach them. Sadly, many miners and know-no-better parents are willing to pay top dollar for a half-azzed GPU with 200% markup.

So, choice is clear - sacrifice and suffer for the greater good, or throw a couple thousand bucks at the greedy mofos. Bottom line - you lose both ways.
