Having the disposable income doesn't automatically mean that you should spend it.

The way I've seen it, it's not the brand that people hate. It's excess and bragging about it.

I don't "hate" the brand necessarily. But I don't like what they do for gaming as an industry, I don't like how they treat their customer base, I don't like how closed they are (in terms of closed-source technology) and a competitor's products fit my needs better. So I buy the competitor.

It could be bias but I agree that the Green fanbase tends to be more, err, "rabid" about their choice of product and disparaging about people who don't do things "the right way" by buying Nvidia. At least on TPU.

I've been told that me being impressed about the performance of my 7900 XTX is wrong because I just don't understand how much better Nvidia is, for example. Not to say the AMD buyers are free from sin, but the bias of poor behavior skews heavily in one direction.

Unless anyone needs the card for work purposes, people aren't forced to buy them. I guess this sounds weird to people with piles of money laying around, but you can buy a used card or vote with your wallet and don't buy anything at all
Well you aren't force to have gaming as a hobby either but if it's your hobby it's your hobby, you are going to buy a card. Life isn't infinite and waiting for 3 years to buy a card isn't a wise investment in some people's book. The used is an option but that's a completely different market, some people just wanna buy new, nothing wrong with that.
You mean AMD? I've seen plenty of childish name calling for anyone not buying a certain brand because it doesn't have 90% marketshare.
Funny you mention the 90% marketshare. That would mean there are 9 times as many people that call amd buyers idiots, and yet I can't find a single post like that. On the contrary, I can find 20 doing the opposite just in the last week.

Nvidia have lost the plot, all they're good at is market manipulation these days.

Blackwell has also had big issues in the server market, with overheating and power issues delaying its rollout.

Zero real innovation since 2022, the 5070ti and 4080 essentially identical. The bottom line, is that software has stopped advancing as well.

Outside of snake oil, like RT, cards from the 3000 series onwards look like they'll continue to do a great job in gaming until at least 2030.

Why not? If you've got the money & want the thing, why wouldn't you? These morals or ethics that most of us enthusiasts apply to all this are all in our heads. None of it matters for the top tier purchasers.
Because there are smarter ways to spend your money. "If I have X amount of money, it means I can spend Y" is how we (I, and I assume you as well), common people think.

Like lottery wins. A lot of people spend it on bullshit, and become poor in a few years, whereas it would be a lot more useful to invest it and live off the proceeds.

If I ever win the lottery im getting an F40. Ill sleep in it if I become homeless, don't care :toast:

You mean since 2018? Ampere was Turing 2.0, and Ada was Ampere 2.0. Just bigger chips made on smaller nodes.

Suit yourself. :) If I win the lottery, I'll put it all into a high yield savings account, quit my job, and continue living like I have been all my life... just without sacrificing 8 hours of my time every day to get there.

That F40 is nice, but it doesn't contribute to my happiness one single bit.

The sad part is there is no other option anyways. Guy that buys or wants to buy a 5090 or a 5080 has no other option at that performance level (well maybe a 4090 / 4080S but those are out of stock and are not coming back).

Intel needs to jump the gun and try to at least compete in the midrange (5070 / 5070ti). They already have the software ready (Xess and RT performance is decent), they need to beef up the hardware.
Here we go again. The other option is AMD and has been for a long time. Nvidia has never been very high quality. Its all hype and no substance with them. As some have said, stop buying Nvidia and look elsewhere. We need to end this monopoly before the GPU market is really screwed.

With the latest v572.47 drivers I get black screens even with my 4080, so I think it is more of a driver problem than a hardware problem. The previous v572.42 drivers are perfectly fine for me, so I use that version.

Anyone buying the best gaming card on the market is not concerned about value for money, that doesn't make them idiots, it just means they have the disposable income for it.
It’s not about spending money. It’s about spending money on Nvidia. Their products are mediocre at best, a purposeful scam at worst.

Last time I checked amd isn't making cards at that performance level. Unless they are hiding a 9090xt reveal or something, it's not an option for 5080 / 5090 etc buyers. That's without mentioning RT at all.

I sad it a couple of times already stop the 5ish % performances and fakeness upscales and frames and stand still while improving power consumption instead of users needing 1000W+ to run a crappy card at the end of the day.
Sure, then the one GPU maker that decides to increase the power draw to get more performance will get all the sales. Chip-making is an industry that moves a tad too fast to allow a company to hold until they figure out "the perfect architecture". Sneeze and you lose. And standing still would increase the focus on software tricks even more.

Native 4K is hard to achieve because devs don't want to stay still, give them a faster GPU, and they will make the news games harder to run. Consumers saw upscaling as a clutch for older weaker hardware, devs saw it as a means to add even more effects to a game. Just look at the recommended specs are now assuming that upscaling will be used. That's how console development has been working for over a decade. "that game can't run at 1080p with the IQ that we want ? let's render it at 900p and upscale it instead".

Larabee, the previous GPU project of Intel suffered from staying in dev hell for too long, the competition was too far ahead by the time they could release it to the market. Arc had a similar issue to an extent, where they just had to release something and work the quirks out later.

The people who spend money on buying Nvidia just to say they have the fastest to brag about it are the same people who insist AMD isn't an option and act like they don't exist, I don't understand the mentality of continually spending money on hardware which keeps on having issues.
As for the gaming market being screwed, I think we're already there since people are spending used car money on a GPU despite the various issues. Also screwed because consumers are being convinced upscaling is a way to achieve better performance, while game devs are using it as a way to cheat on game optimization or just adding a ton of unnecessary ray traced elements.
Well you aren't force to have gaming as a hobby either but if it's your hobby it's your hobby, you are going to buy a card. The used is an option but that's a completely different market, some people just wanna buy new, nothing wrong with that.
Gaming as a hobby doesn't force anyone to drop thousands to have the latest card, and it isn't a wise investment to spend on a GPU with known problems. It's like buying a Ferrari and expecting to daily drive it, that simply makes no sense in terms of wisely spending money.
Funny you mention the 90% marketshare. That would mean there are 9 times as many people that call amd buyers idiots, and yet I can't find a single post like that. On the contrary, I can find 20 doing the opposite just in the last week.
Theres a lot more nvidia buyers who regularly defend their purchase while finding any way to bash on AMD, repeating the tired drivers bad argument, and I've seen plenty of name calling from the same people who also keep saying any issues with Nvidia or the high prices are all AMD's fault.

The best thing about all these problem is it doesn’t affect Nvidia at all.

”Gaming and AI PC”, even with Blackwell cards being rare as hen’s teeth and previous generation being unavailable, will inexplicably show record revenue. At the same time practically no gamers will own these cards.

Shops generally sell all the cards that show up, unless they give them extremely unreasonable prices like 60% additional “because we know we’re not getting any more of them soon” markups.

Nvidia will continue to produce these gaming cards in extremely small batches. And focus on their AI server products, as they should - revenue there is astronomical for now, so they have to milk the situation as long as it exists, it won’t be forever.

@AusWolf See, told you its about the brand :)
Dude there are only three brands and you keep saying there is only one. People here are frustrated with what you say because it sounds like you work for Nvidia.

If ANY company CEO sounded as arrogant as Huang, charged 80% plus margins (5x the cost) but it turns out the QC is really bad, customers are going to get ANGRY. Angry at ANY product.

You know we don’t come here to win arguments. We come here to learn about products. Ads suck and don’t even come close to telling enough about a product. And fans aren’t helpful because they would give their buddy bad advice based on just the name on the box and never mention the problems being reported.

I’m not buying the 5000 series. Huang is paying too much attention to the data center market and apparently not giving the consumer GPUs enough resources to work well. I’ll stick with my 4000 and 7000 series.

I said for that performance level, only nvidia makes cards. It's a factual statement. My brother wants to soon upgrade his 3090, what are his options? Literally, only nvidia. It is what it is.

So someone will move from a 4070ti /4080 / 4090 to a 9070xt because they can't find a 5090? Doesn't make sense, right? Im telling you, anyone who owns an nvidia high end card of the last couple generations doesn't have an option, they either buy nvidia or nothing.

You can in the UK, been pretty easy to get them if you're prepared to pay over MSRP. The scalped listings on eBay aren't selling much either, constantly being relisted.

Shouldn't be too long, very good chance that LLM demand drys up by the end of this year, post deep seek and with the other economic issues brewing. Whole market and prices could well collapse by the end of the year...
