NVIDIA Investigates TDR Issues, Requests Sample Cards

I have a gtx460 .I had problems only after i instaled 285.62 with a lot of movies (image in pieces) and i did not played BF3. I swich back to 280.26 and everything return to normal.
But i get sometimes the message ''Display Driver stopped responding and has recovered'' without doing nothing possible only firefox working.

I have a GTX 560 Ti,

I keep getting this error

Display Drive stopped responding and has recovered

display drive NVIDA windows kernal mode drive, version 285.62 stopped responding and has successfully recovered

The error pops up in a pop up box in the bottom right of the screen.

It happens when surfing the web.
The screen goes black, my monitor cycles through the inputs.
Takes about 2 seconds
Then the screen comes back and the error message pops up in the bottom right hand corner.

Never happens in linux only windows.
Happen after a drive up date.

normally happpens when using firefox... never in games ...
i know I just need to start in safemode and delete the drivers ....

This thing happened to me to, only when i was using Firefox... for a couple of days i'm using Chrome and never seen that message again...

My neighbor's 560Ti is plagued with this issue. I should see if he's willing to send his card in.

Wow i have this exact same issue with my gtx 580 (evga call of duty version) Its been doing this for weeks, it will go almost a week without doing it but then for a day or two my computer is almost unuseable. been trying to work with evga to figure out a solution none so far. And yes it happens alot it seems when using firefox..its like its the trigger

Nvidia 8200 IGP + Phenom X4 9550, built in 2007, using firefox since version 1.0, I had a stopped responding message only once since then, and it was recently, maybe last month

Using Windows Vista due to compatibility issues with some of the software I run.

I have not experienced these issues with my 2 EVGA GTX 580's SLI. Don't use WMP much, but BF3 has not been a problem - in fact it has been runnning really well.

I have this issue, started after updated to newest nvidia driver and played Battlefield 3 couple of times.

Most likely unrelated but...
I have a 880GT. Never done any overclocking... it is stock OC'd though.
Before updating to these most recent WHQL drivers I was getting BSOD's constantly and I found out it was the display driver.
Uninstalled the driver and used driver sweeper in safe mode to remove all traces.
Installed newest WHQL version and now no BSOD's and I am no longer getting random black glitching in space marine :)

I am in hell !

I am suffering from this problem with my Qosmio X505-Q887 laptop which has an nVIDIA GTS 360M ..

It's killing me ..

Sometimes moving the mouse cursor initiates it
other times watching an MKV movie causes this problem
also watching youtube brings up this problem

I'v had it in my gaming PC on 5850's CFX but a lot less often .. and it was recoverable all the times. On the other hand, my notebook crashes in 70% of the incidents so I have to hard reset it.

GTX580 overclocked to 850mhz core. no issues with WMP and BF3. Using IE 9 though. At 900mhz core, I get display driver stopped working.

Is NVIDIA reading this post???

If so then here's my input:

MSI N560GTX Ti HAWK - some issues in WMC and lots of "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered" errors in latest Firefox and Internet Explorer.

I also get the odd green flashes in Battlefield 3.

:banghead:

Anyone seen this here?

EDIT: I've not seen any issues like this with any of my nvidia cards.
Im having an issue with a Asus 580 Matrix. I cant even get BF3 to load (one it goes 3D, the driver stops responding). I have tried the FB3 driver and older, same issue. This also happens with youtube videos as well. The screen will go green, sound will jack up and the driver will recover.

I have updated flash, stopped hardware acceleration, tried the card on another system with no sound installed, different drivers, etc. I then dropped in my 580 CU on the SAME driver install, and it worked... so Im thinking bad card in this case. Its at Asus RMA now...

That's friggin' weird. :wtf:

So, to clarify, you saw the same thing on another PC? If so, it definitely sounds like the card.

My 580 pisses me off, because I can't Fold on it; the damned chokes make an awful noise.

Nvida NEVER HAS ISSUES!!!! THESE ARE LIES SPREAD BY ATI!!!

They have been having some hardware acceleration issues also experienced by ATI. Its probably the same issues that plagues some ATI users, where clock speed and voltage get switched too fast as the load is just over or under one threshold, and then during one of the transitions and power isn't there to run the core at that speed and you have a issue.

I have the exact same card and have no issues... using 285.62 driver

Like I said... I think its the card in this case. But the symptoms were eerily similar to the thread. :)

I'm using a GTX 460 with the latest Nvidia drivers and use WMC all the time with no issue. Haven't tried BF3 on it yet.

Update: Last night I got a BSOD while watching a video. Only one so far so my rage levels are still low.

Today i was watching a MKV movie (1080p) and i got a BSoD... and after a while when i was playing Lost Planet 2 i got another message with "Do you want to change the color scheme to improve performance?"

Guys, I had this issue with my factory OC'd Gigabyte GTX570. If your experiencing issues try LOWERING your clock speed. BF3 has a automatic GPU overclocker for supported GPU's which is causing issues. I downloaded MSI afterburner and lowered my clock speed from 780 (factory) to 730 and have not crashed since. Until NVIDIA releases a driver, try this as it fixed my issue. Hope that helps....;)

That sounds insane! It's just asking for trouble. Are you sure of this? Has anyone else seen this?

Oh, welcome to TPU. :toast:

Hi qubit, yes I'm positive, I've spent numerous hours researching the good ole world wide web trying to figure out what in the hell is going on. I came across a few threads with the same info (I'll see if I can find them again and link them here). I tried everything else that was mentioned but the ONLY thing that worked for me was this. I've been playing 4-5 hours without a single issue now, whereas before it was very frequent that I would crash with driver errors, direct X etc....

Oh and I've been reading TPU for years now, I just don't post on the forums very often but felt compelled to do so to help out some others cause I know how frustrating this has been for me. :toast:

EDIT: Here is a youtube video explaining a little more in detail. Also note this is for the "CTRL ALT Delete" crashes, the other crashes are audio related.

I agree with you Nibrok, lowering your video card clocks could be a temporary solution.
I believe that this problem is related to power saving/clocks control within windows 7
I don't remember having this issue on Win Vista nor the the ancient XP

Ive run with MSI Afterburner on in the back round and saw my clockspeeds stay the same throughout the gaming session (GTX580). That dude in the video needs to post some proof of this actually happening. I dont buy this at all. In fact, I can post up evidence to the contrary even after I get home tonight. I call shens on that shyte until some actual proof is posted.

What cards is it 'overclocking'? Why is it selective (slower cards only?)? Proof of clockspeed changes?

Something.
