I'm half way through building a new budget PC and will be getting a AMD Ryzen 5700X for the CPU but for the graphics card... not sure yet. I think I'm going to wait and see if the Geforce RTX 5060 is a 12GB card, If so I'll be buying that. If not then I'll probably buy a AMD Radeon RX 6800.

The Geforce RTX 4060, 4060 Ti 8GB and 16GB need some serious discount before I'd consider buying any of them.

Lol. Not a very smart decision to buy a 4080 or a 4090 this late in the cycle, unless your current card has fried or something. On the other hand...

This also strikes me as wrong, as I don't remember a single high-end launch in the last, what, 5 or 6 years already, where it paid anything to not try and get the card you want day1. If anything, it often gets worse, like it did with rtx3000/rx6000 or 1080ti with their insane mining-boom prices.

Middle-/low-end sure, worth the wait, but if you're gunning for a flagship, trying to pre-order it for MSRP seems to be the correct move.

The last 5 or 6 years has only had one or two crytpboom & scalpers. Before 2017 &/or maybe 2020 Pc gaming was a niche thing, so demand could rise & fall with less other interactions upon it.
Specifically speaking scalpers can only make prices high when demand is high if no one is buying then demand is gone no price increase.
Most of the time Nvidia just slows down production to limited amounts to make artificial "limited supply" to keep their prices the same.

That's because the 4090 isn't competing with the 7900xtx and people who spend that money for a 4090 already have the budget for an entire computer.

Just checked pcpartpicker, it's 30$ between a 4080 super and a 7900xtx.
I see that you are that in tune that you know that everyone is buying a 4090 because they can afford it. The mindshare is strong but you know what is stronger to make the 4090 viable? AI and China. So when you talk about Nvidia mindshare remember that China ( A country positioned with Russia) is bigger than any snot nosed Gamer that gets Nvidia for RT because they want it. It does not matter though as AMD has something that Intel can't reproduce and Nvidia have no avenue. Handhelds are the new channel and will make sure that R&D goes into AMD where AMD summarily have better software for the user than Nvidia.

You aren't serious, are you? What?

Handhelds are 90+% going with nvidia. Wait for switch 2 and see the sales compared to other handhelds

Nintendo is not a PC handheld. What you don't seem to understand is that Steam, EPIC and GOG are the focus of these and the Switch does not count. That is all console money. Give it time and we may see Steam overtake them too. I will even give you another reason the Steam Deck and other Windows handhelds will be viable. Those gray market retro console drives are very popular and the more expensive ones even have the latest Nintendo Games making the Switch a moot point. There is also the fact that Nintendo is as seen as something that is for kids. There are plenty of Steam Games that would not be allowed on Nintendo's platform.

So yes the Switch has a huge lead but I look at handhleds the way I look at Vehicles. More young people ride those electric scooters than drive cars, That has led to a run on Car Companies.

I forgot to mention software. What I am talking about is AMD software package with more knobs and levers you can shake a stick at. To the point where Hyper RX is just using the ones best suited to the Application. I don't have to use MSI Afterburner and take a hit on performance so that I can see my FPS, Micro Stutter, 99%, Average Frame time, Board Power of the GPU, Voltage and so on.

Thank god for that, can get 10-11 hours of battery life. Playing games. Or streaming them from my PC with nvidia gamestream.

If your PC takes a hit using MSI afterburner...oh boy.

But you don't need msi afterburner, GFE has all that build in.

For reference on 8/6/2026 as per PCPARTPICKER website cheapest 4090 is $1699 although I have seen the 4090 suprim liquid for $1622 at Lenovo with code extra5
4080 for $949

4070ti for
$673.20 at Amazon

7900xtx for $909
7900xt $689
currently.

quickly buy some Nvidia gpus so Nvidia's stock doesn't plummet further in a bear market that started and already 20% dip witha ViX index that hit 40 ( seen last during pandemic times)

You mean while they are being sued by the justice department, slowing production for 4000 series, 3060 supply drieng up, Blackwell being delayed till 2025 rumors due to design flaw in a bear market, and uncertainty in the political landscape. Yep don't diversity and go all in!

I would hope that there's no '21-like "video-card-mageddon"! Then again, that happened during the pre-Arc days, so I suspect somebody in the video card biz, got cocky!

Even when I believe a lot of it was because of the Eth bull-run-PoW market.

The problem is that people are in a huge rush. Synthetic rush that is. One would be perfectly fine with an "old" RTX 3080 Ti but they stock on RTX 4090 because of FOMO. Some enthusiasts buy a new GPU every time the new generation rolls out. They don't care if they only get +10% speed, they only care if it's a plus. If you can live just great without committing to this purchase then don't purchase. I could've smashed my piggy bank and gone for a 4090 but it's a bit mediocre upgrade over my 6700 XT, I'll wait for something at least 50% more substantial. And of course, I'll wait for it to be below 1500 USD.

These fake shortages are designed to breed even more FOMO. Don't buy it. GPUs are going nowhere, you'll get your sweet deal. Be patient.

If I had a lot more money and had it in a piggy bank, I still would get no more than an RTX 4080. I consider myself lucky that I got an Arc A770 16 GB!

Also, even an RX 7800 XT would be a lot better than a 6700 XT. Even the RX 7700 XT doesn't look bad.

Nah, you can barely notice these +60 percent, it's a total waste of money and effort, unless I get paid for calculating power. I refuse to upgrade until I can afford something that's AT LEAST 5 times faster than what I have.

Example: some game is a laggy & stuttery mess at 20...30 FPS. Will 7800 XT solve my problem? No, it'll be just a less laggy & stuttery mess at 30...50 FPS. Now, considering I bought something that's 5 times faster, it's 100...150 FPS which is perfectly fine. I can even enable more eye candy at this point.

You specs say you are gaming on 4K. How in the world is a 4090 a mediocre upgrade over a 6700 XT? The 4090 is almost 3 times faster.

You answered your own question. For it to be good it has to be at least 5.
