well if its only a minor improvement then one thing is for sure, the next high end nvidia card will probably stomp it given the improvement from the GT100 to GT104, based on the GT104 nvidia might have a 768 sp superscalar GPU in the works on a new process and we know that the SP efficiency is a good bit better than the GT100, AMD better bring it, I can say that and like AMD more than Nvidia.

which is why I don't believe these minor improvement rumors.

Good points. But how long do you think they can really ride this massively inefficient architecture. I think we will see small changes with big impacts from ATI. Like I said ATI has such a power efficient solid design that just adding more power to the card is more then enough to compete with Fermi.

Nvidias next step is a complete redesign. They will rebadge and shrink as much as possible, but once that is used up they will have no choice but head back into the R&D labs... Which I am sure they are already doing.

Nvidia has GF104 right now. With all of the shaders unlocked it will be somewhere in between a 470 and a 480. I hope for Nvidia's sake that they are already working on something new.. and of course they are.

Gelid Icy Visions. I got them from Sneekypeete. I wouldn't of bought them, but a fan on one of my cards has just started getting loud like it's wearing out. Heh, maybe I should of just tried cleaning it before buying new coolers... But he gave me a good deal.

I would suggest that we will see something similar to nVidia's GPC. Meaning a group of SIMD Cores would get a tessellator. These groups would still fall under the same scheduler on the front end. Group 4 SIMD Cores under each tessellator and put 6 groups on the "HD 6870" and you get 1920 SP (since that was one SP rumor I've seen running around). The 4 SIMD Core group also works nicely with the rumored 640 SP count on the top Llano chip too.

The shader count and how many SIMD Cores would be grouped together is just speculation on my part. Though the grouping of SIMD Cores with a tessellator ending with ATI having something similar to nVidia's GPC is something I would be surprised not to see.

But no, you don't get on chip Crossfire. Does nVidia have on chip SLI with Fermi? No.

I'm not too hopeful for a massive performance jump, but it may be the release that will deliver its final blow to NVIDIA this year nonetheless.

that seems to be the current trend at launch at least, within 5-10% of the last gen dual card (480x295, 5870x4870x2) so I'd expect the 6870 to be in the range of the 5970 but slower than two 5870's in crossfire.

that said it'd have to be pretty amazing to get me to upgrade my gpu again before I upgrade my cpu/mobo/mem.

ya ur so extreme yet you own a 7900GT which is a low model for that generation of cards. Ultra is the highest the cards could go for NV before the cut the name out and went with GTX
