Official AMD Radeon 6000 Series Discussion Thread

ATI are always kings of price/performance ratio, i expect/hope already that a 6870 will be priced like the 5870 was.

well the hd6800 thread is like 800 million pages of o i cant wait, and what do you thinks, i think if it were cleaned and only had stuff like this in it it would be a more seen and looked through thread. these benches absolutely look real, why would they not be?? basically its the performace of a 5970 maybe a tad less its about right scaling wise as every other series ATI has let out to date.

Well, I wouldn't touch a gtx 460 at this point. If one is interested in that segment I would wait to see price/performance of the 6750/6770. Although finndrummer posted chart inadvertently reflects it (as it's a price chart) I believe that the 6830 will beat the gtx 460 hands down.

preying they've improved crossfire scaling...

same ^ since ill be selling my cards dirt cheap and grabbing the 6k cards.... just hope my PCP & C i got back is still good enough to handle them

That is a good.... point. ATI's Scaling is just horrible....Don't get me wrong I think they have improved.
But really I think it would be wise for ATI to find a new angle with that.

Let's speculate here.... if this could be the high end part(6870) then a 6850 would be as about as powerful as a GTX 480 / high end 5870.

Man that is a Mainstream enthusiasts card I could get into!

single GPU appears to be powerfull enough anyway, especially if this baby still has good OC potential.

then again we always think one is enough right up until we're in the store buying the second.

does'nt excuse poor scaling and CFX issues however.

^ exactly i love that extra boost in performance on some titles and maybe just maybe i can now play metro with DOF ON at 1920x1200 :toast:

Oh no :banghead: ... I sold my 4850 last week having a GTX 460 in mind ... now looking at this I think its better to play the waiting game ... crap ... now I'll need to find a low end card till these are released ... :(

and BTW any news on the release dates ... October .. ??? November ... ??? :o

GPU-Z and CPU-Z shots are easy to fake!! Take a look!

10 minutes and windows paint.

I'm proud of the 5ghz one :D I used a calculator :P

I kinda guessed on the 6800 series pic...

they are but you have to look at what your doing, their are things wrong in that pic that tell you they are fake which is why some will just leave everything blank.

I like your opinion :D

hi hi, tu prrouves encoore qu't 1e grrosse têtee de naze

The gtx 460s make a good choice only if you are going to sli them because they scale very good (up to 90%) and you get the performance of a 5870 crossfire with a an easy overclock.

With the price of 2 makes it an even more compiling reason to wait at this point. I wouldn't buy 2 of them now knowing that AMD's next gen is around the corner. Regardless if the pics and other rumors are true or not. This involves 2 factors:
A. The 6750/6770 may cause a 460 price drop well below $200 by then
B. The 6750/6770 maybe on par/beat the 460 and may have good OC head room

We really don't know what will come true or not which is the whole point of waiting. On a side note, I noticed this post by Charlie. I want to see if that turns out to be true or not.

congratulations on making my ignore list!

PS. it was your terrible french that sealed the deal.

There needs to be some retesting done with CF and scaling... I seem to get very good scaling with my current setup. I guess I should do the tests then... :ohwell:

i didn't say go buy a couple of gtx 460, better is to wait. it's not a problem for me, i can switch at any time.

So who wants to sell me their 5850?

well erocker i know crossfire works on my system but in crysis i get maybe 5fps from the second card and worse minimum frame rates yet in any Unreal engine game i get close to 80% scaling maybes its because im still on 10.4a but newer drivers just give me even shitter performance

I found it really depended on the game/benchmark in question, SF4, DMC4 and a fair few others seemed to scale just beautifully (guess at 70-90%), then you had things like crysis, BFBC2, and 3dmark vantage for example where the scaling efficiency plummeted.

I am willing to say that this couldhave been caused by my individual setup however, with mixing a 5870 and a 5850 together and all... not to mention I do understand just how hard it must be for driver coders, trying to account for the near infinite combination of hardware setups.

Yeah, that's strange. Vista for Crysis and Windows 7 for Unengine.... Why the two operating systems I wonder? Makes it less believable..

Doesn't that app still read Vista when using win7?
Besides, I'm not sure that the Heaven benchmark is legit. It uses 2 different fonts for the FPS/Score vs Max/Min. One appears typed in bold while the other is not. I don't have that program but that does appear odd.

Well even though this isn't 68xx series related. I just ran some tests of the few games I currently have installed.

System Specs:
965 x4 BE @ 4ghz
8gb DDR3 1400Mhz 6 6-6-18
HD 5850's @ 825/1000
Win 7 x64
Catalyst 10.8 w/ 10.8a CrossFire Profile
Using 60 seconds Fraps when no bench avail.
All settings in their respective games are maxed out. 1920x1200 resolution

Dirt 2 Benchmark
Single card: 65.6 avg ~ 57.4 min
CrossFire: 107.5 avg ~ 90.6 min +41.9 fps avg.

BFBC2 [Multiplayer Map Laguana, 10 ping and all alone]
Single card: 60.1 fps
CrossFire: 90.2 fps +30.1 fps

Mafia II Benchmark [PhysX off]
Single card: 48.9 fps
CrossFire: 86.2 fps +37.3 fps

Left 4 Dead 2 [Dead Center/Hotel] Bench started at same time when player is controlled
Single card: 155 fps
CrossFire: 226 fps +71 fps

First and foremost Crysis sucks. Secondly I've seen better results from CrossFire with that game many, many times so it's probably something on your end.

yet once again i get proper scaling in other titles example Mafia II i get roughly the same increase you have gotten same with BFBC2 yet in other games i get shitty scaling..

Crysis Crysis Warhead Metro 2033, Resident Evil 5 yet DMC4 scales beautifully maybe it is my rig but obviously if other games are running just fine and others not usually a driver update would be the key but newer drivers give me worse performance currently and yes i installed the proper South Bridge filter driver etc. it could be motherboard related or any number of things eitherway scaling is way out of wack compared to sli i can count more on sli scaling to be in general better and sadly more consistent crossfire for me works just not nearly like it should in many games yet others its great. Eitherway dosent matter much ill sell the 5850s later on and grab 6800 series and go from there

Judging by these performance numbers for the 6 series (if they are real) I'm doing the same. :) One 6870 for me please.

same ill stick to a single card and go with that instead lol especially with my multi monitor issues..... ill just oc the dog shit outta a 6870 after selling both 5850s maybe grab a nvidia card for physx .... maybe
