Hello guys, i have a Core 2 Duo E7600 ((stock 3.06Ghz-1.287v core voltage)) and it's overclocked to 3.6 Ghz with 1.300v core voltage and the temps are perfect and the pc is stable , but currently i want to reach 3.8 or 4.0Ghz would be better , how much should i set the core voltage at ???
my cpu voltage range is 0.850v-1.360v and for now i can't go more then 3.6Ghz with 1.300v because the pc crashes immediately, so how much should i set the voltage to reach 3.8 or 4.0 Ghz???

Keep an eye on temperatures, the stock cooler doesn't handle overclocking very well. Between the stock cooler and no heatsink on the VRMs, I would be reluctant to push the voltage up if I had that hardware.

There's no magic number for core voltage at a given core clock speed. Every CPU is different. I don't have any experience with that particular CPU. But from looking at scores on HWBOT for it, it looks like you'll probably need between 1.34V - 1.44V to get up to 3.7GHz to 4.0GHz.

First set to 3.7GHz, see if it locks or freezes. If it does baby step your vcore up till bsods/hard freezes stop, if they don't well you just have a chip/ mobo that will only do 3.6.

Well, my temperatures are very good .
idle:31-38C
full load:60-65C
and i think anything below 80C is fine

i've tried it, set the cpu voltage at 1.312 instead of 1.300 and set the clock speed at 3.7, bsod after 5 minutes at full load.

ok , i think i got a stable 3.78 Ghz with 1.362v, my target was a bit higher but 3.78 isn't bad, but now my question is HOW IN THE HELL THERE IS PEOPLE RECORDING SUCH FREQUENCYES IN THE SCREEN SHOT ??????????!!!!!!

Liquid nitrogen and good hardware.

Exactly. Add to that these temps won't be stable for more than a few minutes to bench, and you can consider them little more than "high scores" with little practical real world use.

Not to say that's not valid of course, but don't feel bad for not hitting it!

Typically pared down to 1 core/1 thread with CPU-Z in XOC mode. And more like stable just long enough to get a validation without crashing(so like 10-15 seconds tops).

Drop it back to 3.70 for cushion, you won't notice much difference between 3.5 and 3.7GHz anyway without a benchmark. It's like 5hp vs. 10hp.

Are you checking your memory speed and making sure it's not outrageous? Also, look at how much voltage you are feeding your northbridge. Right now I'm typing this reply on an E8400 that's doing almost 3.8GHz (420 X 9) at 1.216V (according to CPU-Z, I'll check the BIOS setting on the next restart). I know the E8xxx series was supposedly slightly better at overclocking but I had an E7xxx series that did just as well but had less cache so I used this one that was pulled from a retired business system. If I had a P45 board I'm sure I could do much better; the P43 chipset is really holding me back but this system only needs to run Netflix / Amazon / YouTube. I just can't justify the $ to get another board for an ancient CPU.

Edit: 1.2625V in the BIOS

I hear ya. I had to exercise a little restraint to pass on a nice used BIOSTAR TPower I45 that just sold for $65 on ebay. I'd always wanted that particular board to see how far I could push this E8600 I've got. But in the end I couldn't justify buying it. There was a time when I easily could have. But that time has come and gone. Just not worth it anymore. Plus I don't have any decent DDR2. So I'd end up in a hunt for some of that as well. Vicious circle. Glad I'm smart enough to stay out of it.

Well, you said it the E8*** series is a better overclocker then the E7*** series and i have the stupid 945GC chipset , and btw the best chipset in 775 motherboards is the x48 its really extreme. check this motherboard out : https://www.ebay.com/itm/Asus-Rampa...043441?hash=item23a3ec8a31:g:D~4AAOSwXSJbJmWE

to be honest i am trying to squeeze all the performance out of the cpu because i've bought a GTX 750 ti and i want to reduce the bottleneck , i know it won't kill the bottleneck completely but at least it will reduce it.

Just get the cheapest Ryzen 3 setup you can afford...

AMD Ryzen 3 2200G
Gigabyte A320M-HD2
8gb DDR4

Put that 750Ti in and it will do leagues better than your E7600. Its not worth money buying a new board for it.

i am thinking about buying a new cpu , mobo , and ram , i was thinking about a used i5 2550k and 8gb of ddr3 ram and asus p8h61-m mobo.
i know the ryzen would be better but the am4 socket mobos are a little bit expensive because there is lots of good deals for the asus p8h61-m mobo and for the i5 2550k.
and btw this upgrade will cost only 175 dollars while the ryzen upgrade will cost 254 dollars , i know its only 80 dollars diffrence but my budget is very limited and 80 dollars is a big diffrence for me.

Sandy Bridge chips were legendary when it came to overclocking. I had a 2500k that did 4.9 and probably would of done 5Ghz easily but i never pushed for it. However the problem with your 'plan B' is that the P8H61-M is absolutely poo poo and will do you no favours whatsoever when it comes to overclocking that 2550k. But its a step up compared to your E7600.

If you can get the 2550k then pair it with a P8Z68 Pro or *HALF DECENT* board with isnt absolutely garbage then that will alleviate most issues. Even though the tech is a few generations old. Its still quite a good performer.

Either save more money, eat one less meal every day like a lot of people did when we were younger or sell your body, kidney or soul to get the parts you need.

What about selling a kidney and buying x99 mobo and maybe an i9 7900x , 128gb of ddr4 ram 3000mhz and sli gtx 1080?!
Aaaahh this is awesome .

Bottleneck you say :wtf::roll:
What do you mean ?

Umm... guys ?
It's really not THAT hard to do 3,7GHz on E7600.
Here's my E7500 on ASUS P5B (P965) based board :

Here's 4,38GHz :

...and Fire Strike score for that 4,38GHz (if anyone thought it's not stable enough) : LINK.

@27MaD : With 945GC chipset, you will not be able to overcome PCI-e barier (ie. that chipset can't do over 1333MHz FSB, without overclocking PCI-e bus).
You can try setting 105-110MHz on PCI-e, but I doubt it's worth it.
To stabilise high FSB on this board, higher VTT FSB (or FSB Termination) may be required, along with RAM settings tweaks (higher timings, and/or lower frequency).
I'm not sure, if your BIOS has that options.

PS. I own one of those Rampage Extreme boards, it's a great OC MB :)
Managed 4,4GHz on Xeon X3370 with it (and AIO cooling).

every CPU is unique , i mean no 2 CPU's are the same even if they were the same model , you can easily reach +4.0Ghz while i am struggling to reach 3.75 Ghz , and of course the mobo is a factor.
btw is your 780 TI running without any problems on your motherboad , i am asking because i've heard that modern gpu's won't run with old mobo's like your 965 or like my 945 , because my 750 TI is on his way , also i've noticed that your bios date is 2009 while mine is 2010 so i think i should be good with the 750 ti , am i right ???

@27MaD I ran R9 390X and GTX 1080 on 945GC based board : LINK/LINK ;)
You don't need to worry about backwards compatibility (at least on Intel chipsets).

Thanks man for helping i appreciate it , but i really feel sad because i was going to buy a GT 1030 , I know that the 750 ti is more powerful than the GT 1030 but i wanted a cheap awesome gpu like the GT 1030 , until lots of people said that it won't work with my mobo , even gigabyte support said that there would be compatibility problems , so i've ordered a used GTX 750 TI and its on his way.
and here you are shocking me by saying that you've paired a GTX 1080 with this mobo.
but i have another point , are you really pairing a GTX 780 TI with a core 2 duo!!!?? come on man you are not using even 30% of the gpu's power , the 780 TI is the old GTX 1080 TI !

My main rig is my sys specs.
You are shocked by GTX 780 TI pairing with Core 2 Duo ?
That 945GC with GTX 1080, has a Northwood128 Celeron 2,0GHz (PGA 478) you know... :>

PS. C2D E7500 at 3,69GHz has higher GPU Score in 3DMark 11 than i7 3820 : LINK :D
Because... reasons ?
