[PC Build] Code name "FULL RETARD"

No-no, good surviving CRTs are an actual baller accessory to a proper retro system. This isn’t it. It needs to be a shitty slow early TFT, preferably one that already was scuffed by someone with a rainbow mark in the corner of the panel where it was damaged. Maximum ghetto vibe.
...and 15" max!

That's what she said.

01:09 am as of me typing it. Had a pretty uncommon day starting off with flying colours, mostly the bloody red one. Shitfaced yesterday, hit the sack after 4 am, woke up with a blood fountain outta my nose, lost a pound of blood, also working thereafter till right now, periodically losing more and more blood. Doc said I'm gonna be okay but no silly hardware experiments for tonight I'm afraid...

Why don't you use it for crypto currency mining, probably spend more on electricity than you make on coins but at least it's multitasking as room heater as well ;) .

Hope the nose bleed issue is not related to stress regarding this project, otherwise dump it as fast as you can as e-waste. Nostalgic hardware addiction can become quite serious..

If I'm too late with this advise, here you can talk to fellow sufferers :lovetpu:

Totally not. I just need to adjust to me being a bit more dated than I used to be which means I can no longer get as sky high as I did yesterday without grimy consequences. Will be fine. I never die.
fellow sufferers
I'm not suffering at all. Enjoying a different state of body and a different set of hardware. 'parently I'm still high.

Just for you to know: it's not possible to play Cyberpunk 2077 on this rig without using cloud services.

Now this bad boy's got a house. Unfortunately, no way to power the GPU up since I don't have any adaptor. Will fix it next year I suppose.

Both these optical drives are only installed for the memes. This "American" screwdriver, however, actually contributed to this PC build.

Lol. Can't power on, but LOOK!!! cool screw driver.
Haha ya guys crack me up.

Builds like this is why I make submissions at hwbot. At least it gets put to use in some way. :)

Can't power on
As a matter of fact, I can. For some reason, it boots up and even gets me into Windows but I'm not sold on it being capable of actual 3D loads. Even by 2007 standards.

Only spent $1 USD on this PC so far. Cost efficient as it is!

Sry, read you needed plug adapter I suppose you meant for the gpu, I mistook it for power to PSU. Long day.... XD

1 buck pc! Nice.

Long day.
Mine is probably longer. Woke up 19 hours ago. I'm used to Decembers being nuts but this particular December has broken all my records.

6am to now 11:14pm w/e hours that is. Worked 8 of them.
A resounding 17 hours. Compared to my 19 hours (13 working) it's a blessing. But still hard. Especially if you're much older than me (soon to turn 30).

Cool screwdriver :)
Thanks.

I bought it as a little treat since I got laid off during the COVID fiesta. Late '21. No one's fault, just the company got bankrupt thanks to the virus. 'least the tool served and still serves me well!

On the way to pre Xmas dinner, sons pickup broke down on the toll way. Dropped wife and 2 other kids off at the restaurant went back up the tool way to stand on the side of I90 at Rte 25 on ramp east bound to get him towed. Went had dinner at a few hundred bucks, plus tip 100 bucks and back home. The tow was 395$ I suspect the fuel pump on the 89 WT took a shit like they do. So will be diagnosing and hopefully repair before Thursday with all available parts stores closed.

2 hours shorter than yours I'm beat enough.

Off to bed
Merry Christmas to you and your potential TPU hwbot point machine and screw driver. Good wishes to your relatives also. :)

Sorry, I've never been to America and not really sure what that even means. XD

Y'all have a blast too! It's a direct order!

Stahp. That's how we get the evil AI that hate us!

Dude I had one of those. Sweet board for the era. I miss Abit. :(
Me too brother, me too. That is one brand that I would like to come back. I preferred them over Asus for sure.

Yeah I've basically been buying mostly Gigabyte since then, and the experience has been mixed to say the least. I did try ASRock for a bit, and I think they may be better lol.

ASUS is probably decent, but they come with a tax as I'm sure you know, and I'm a cheapass on mobos.

None of them are Abit though. I also miss DFI. Both those I bet would've been awesome OCers if they stuck around, not that we can OC much anymore. :(

ASUS is probably decent,
I just stick with their ROG line, I had a bad experience with their midrange, and it seems kind of spotty from user reviews I suppose..

yeah you pay for the big bad boards I have a feeling any brands gonna do at least ok, heh. I just stick my budget all mostly in my CPU/RAM, GPU, and PSU. Because you don't cut those components unless you really want to feel it.

Honestly, UEFI would probably be the biggest thing to worry about there. Some UEFI implemenations border on gaudy and dumbed down to boot. I bet ABit would've made a nice barebones functional one, come to think of it...

Only because they have my trust.. for now. I like to run my setups fairly hard if I can :D

They seem to like it.. I have an AsRock, its pretty good, I had a Gigabyte X58, and it still lives in my buds arcade box. I haven't run MSi though.

I haven't really killed many boards, more than 5 less than 10.. A couple Abits, A couple Asus, A DFi, a Soyo, and I think that's about it..

The only board I ever killed was a Pegatron oem thingamajig but it was helped on its way to deaths door by being pushed off the shelf by a cat (SFF server lol).

This is precisely how my first motherboard that I bought with my hard earned cash came to an end. That feline, too. I was 14 and very depressed so it is what it is.

Anyhow, tomorrow I'll be doing STUFF with this necro PC. Got some ideas how to make it fun.

The PSU died. Welp. Gotta find another one.

This one is also dead. That was some smoke. My whole room stinks now.

So I developed a habit of doing stuff just for the memes. PC building included.

I don't remember how I ended up owning these motherboard, CPU, cooler, and RAM:

However it doesn't mean I can't make use of it.

Looted a 9600 GT so I could have an age appropriate graphics device.

Looted a CR2032 because why spending on such little things.
Damaged the cooler because what doesn't kill us makes us stronger.
Looted a laptop HDD of 500 GB capacity because this is the most appropriate drive for Windows 8. Yes, you read it right, Windows 8.
And I decided I hate NetBurst so slotted this bad boy:

Now that I have everything up and running I am now seeking for most absurd purposes I could use this PC for. I also need a dedicated case and PSU for this retro. Will get whatever I can get for a couple beer cans, won't pay a dime more.

Our absurd (but not illegal) ideas how to use this PC thread has started.

To point out what I definitely will not do:
• Destroy this PC in any way. At least on purpose.
• Install any other OS. Windows 8 stays.
• Pay for upgrades.
• Experiment with overclocking (because I already did that and found out the maximum clocks I can get away with).
• Use this for my OnlyFans.

Let's go!
Can it run Fortnite ?
