Agree, you just see what it represents and there's no point of suggesting with brand - you will only pay premium for the same from ones reputable. Brands defend only with tending to have good cases or ones good for the price.



I know and I hope there's no the problem with me calling Taiwanese Chinese due to looking from the perspective of one industry mostly divided between them.

I did exact same thing. X800GTO to x1800xt, thought it was gonna be great. I remember I sent back to NCIX like twice and finally just got a 1950xt later on.

X1950 Pro 512 to replace the 9700 Pro I had, it played COD 4 MW smooth

I had to suffer with mine on air cooling for awhile. I hate to say it but the 7900XTX feels a tad like it. Mine randomly crashes RDR2, doesn’t matter stock settings, Vulcan, DX12, overclocked to 3.1Ghz stable. Random crashes.

The day I sold my X1800 for a multi-monitor business build a couple years later for $200 I felt good. Worked with a downclocked BIOS and almost stopped fan for another 7 years before being replaced.

Some days I miss dabbling in so much hardware.

Oh, you reminded me of the my 4K AOC monitor. That was my biggest regret. Apparently I only took awful pics of it, but this POS never worked properly. Had to contact the consumer rights people in Taiwan to get a refund, as even after sending it back for AOC to do whatever they did to it, it never worked like a monitor should.
Basic problem: It would randomly switch off, which required me to pull out the power adapter for 10 seconds for it to work again.
Weird problem: Speakers would start to squeal at full volume for no reason.
Really annoying problem: The left side of the display would glitch and have this weird banding the full length of the display. Not a graphics card related issue, as I tested with two different cards.
AOC claimed there was nothing wrong with. Someone I know in Australia had exactly the same issues with his one too.
I will never buy AOC again after that mess.

Hopefully it didnt come with PWM for backlight, I remember most LG monitors came with PWM untill recently.

Bought a 7700K in 2016/2017... cranked it up to 5.1Ghz and settled at 5Ghz then got a little brave and picked up a delid/relid kit. Everything went smoothly... so i thought. It was butchered. Had to quickly buy another.

Early 2000's, on the cheap picked up what seemed to be a fully working but cracked screen used laptop. The seller claimed it only required a screen swap. Purchased, screen replaced, ended up with nothing but visual artefacts. The mobile-GPU was packing in. Luckily, eventually, a long time "eventually", got it refunded.

Worst of them - was super excited to have landed a VR headset. Unfortunately the VR experience was nothing but headaches. Perhaps motion sickness. I had 2 options, either limit VR-play to around 10-15 mins max or wrap it up all-together. Wrapped! It even made using regular flat screens a little uncomfortable, started getting a little twitch in the eye. Years later, i'm still considering a second attempt although this time a quick visit to the opticians sounds about right and i'll make sure to try someone else's set before pulling the trigger.

There's more but minor regrets... i'm generally 99% thumbs-up with my carefully planned and reviewed purchases

Upgraded to Elgato HD60 X for 1440p and VRR, happy so far! Just found out about the HD60 X4 with 10gbit USB - tempting for 4K capture! Debating if it's worth the switch Anyone else have recent PC purchase regrets?

I brought a Elgato HD 60 X to replace the HD 60 S+, was reasonably happy as it added 1440p support and VRR support.

Then discovered last week when investigating USB bandwidth requirements there is a 4K X model, which utilises 10gbit of USB 3.2 instead of 5gbit meaning 4:4:4 colours on capture and 4k capture is possible. Price less than 15% higher. (for @TheLostSwede this one does come with USB-C cable both ends).

Kind of tempted but also means I am paying extra for the 4K X then I would have done had I purchased it straight off.

Curious if anyone else has PC related purchases they regretted within a couple of months of buying.

I've noticed people fall into one of these two camps where you can either handle about 10-15min of high FPS VR until serious virtual sickness or it takes literal hours with sparse momentum monkey situations like driving some vehicle at medium speed and zooming around like a landshark or being moved along some twin axis toy, not quite rollercoaster but similar machine that has you in a twisting drop. I'm in the latter camp where my brain doesn't like the emulated centrifugal forces or being capped at medium speed along the ground. There might be others but those are the two most notable parties.

VR hardware kind of fell off after all the normies (READ: tourists) poured into comfy VR spaces during the coof and even scared the JPs back into hiding. Gaijin go home, gaijin stay home. ✔
The cable on my Oculus is frayed but for the life of me I don't know how to proceed with it. The device is great but the cables are scarce and I'm not sure if I'm ready for a new HMD. It's not going to be the Index, I know that much. As much as a I fawn over the PiMax, this box just isn't ready for it and I'm sure the Vive/Cosmos isn't ready for prime time. It's a very bad time to get into or get back into VR now.

It explains the battery life I think. I've went waaay back to my G700s. One rechargeable AA battery lasts less than 2 days of heavy use in this thing.

Speaking of regrets, I also regret buying the Logitech G502's that go on sale on Amazon. (currently $38). I bought 3 at once a few years ago and between me and my 2 boys all three were junk within 2 years.

I have a G502 X Plus, no issues so far. Used a G602 and G604 before this, and both of those lasted 5+ years too.

Both my monitors are LG. They're expensive. but definitely not garbage quality. Not yet, anyway, they might be once burn in ruins them.

I wont regret the money or getting one, what I will regret is the should I have gone WOLED or QDOLED and glossy vs matte.

Short answer: yes!
My most recent instant regret was a 34" ultrawide OLED monitor. That first gen subpixel layout from Samsung was painful to my eyes. Used it for one day, put it back in the box and returned it for a refund the next day.

Combo memory card reader that somehow got stuck to USB 2.0 speeds despite having a Type-C interface.

Type-C is as you said an interface. It is not a speed specification. You can find anything from usb 2.0 to usb/thunderbolt 4 spec hardware with a usb c connector. The devil is in the (product) details

2 TB Toshiba P300 HDD that I've bought in 2018 I think, when I built my first gen Ryzen system.
That thing was the loudest part of my entire PC for like years and it drove me crazy to the point when I said the hell with this abomination and replaced it with a 4 TB 5400 rpm WD Red which is a lot more quieter. 'I did not even bother selling it on the second hand market cause I aint gonna deal with the possible complaints so its just collecting dust in my previous case as a backup of some old stuff'

Another one was a single fan Palit GTX 560 Ti back in the days, that damned thing was like a jet engine as soon as I started gaming and it would constantly overheat too.
I was rather new to the whole building a PC/hardware stuff at the time and I've learned my lesson there for sure to not cheap out on the cooler design.. 'unless its some very low power card or something'
I assume repasting it would have helped a bit but back then I wasn't yet experienced enough to try such stuff.
That card actually died on me in like 1 year and it was out of warranty too so yeh that was money well spent. 'After that I've downgraded to a nicely quiet HD 7770 cause I was broke, I wasn't even playing demanding games so the 560 Ti was completely pointless in the first place..'

I've had countless mechanical keyboards and I can't say I've ever regretted using one. I hate using anything else really.

But to each their own ~

I think my biggest regret was my S22+, not because it was a bad phone but because the battery lasted 3 potatoes and 3 lemons worth.
