Just paid $287 for a 2TB T705

The sanest way to go for what you want (well, sanest all things considering) is to wait until you are actually buying, going to your web stores of choice, sorting by Gen 5 SSDs and buying whatever is the cheapest for the amount of storage you want at the moment of you doing so. Then, if it doesn’t come with its own cooling, splurge for an aftermarket one from the likes of Thermalright. Any performance differences between Gen 5 drives are theoretical at best. Newer controllers seem to be cooler and less prone to throttling, but THEORETICALLY slower. Nothing to indicate it actually would affect anything in practice, but yeah, if sim gaming is your thing just wait for the relevant sim version to be tested.

I'm ex-Airforce. I prefer to research my targets well in advance.

Best method I find, is 'be prepared'.

That’s very cool and poggers and all that, but unfortunate reality is that SSD market likes to be incredibly volatile with pricing and any preparation can fly out the window on a moment’s notice.

I might buy/upgrade it but I've got 890 hours since it came out. I've been spending more time on DCS in a the Legacy Hornet. The "C" model. It's a very nice model to fly and has it's challenges.

Thanks for your input, it is appreciated.

Now. Can you give me a) and b), as I asked?

Or not? Are you going to avoid doing so, like I asked people not to?

You could stand to tone down the passive-aggressive attitude. Rocking up into a community as a new user acting like that isn’t a good look. You are being given good advice.

But sure, if you insist:

a) Corsair MP700 Pro. Theoretically, at least. Until it inevitably throttles in sustained loads.

b) Any Gen 5 drive that is the cheapest one in the moment. It’s that simple. The differences in performance between them in actual real-world tasks are not noticeable.

So, which is worse: Presuming someone to be 'passive/aggressive' (really?); or taking the exact route, the originating question, specifically, asked you not to?

I might be a new user, but, clearly, I've been around this planet a lot longer than others in order to be able to communicate more effectively than some other, like you.

Also, I don't take 'advice' from people such as you; I tend to ignore it, for good reason that everyone else but you can see. Your sense of entitlement is not something I'm willing to give to you - I don't take any notice of wannabe-upstarts.

Anyway, your input is appreciated, as I said.

We got there in the end. I actually WILL be using your input (above) as 'Valid'.

Now, take pride in having to be the first and only person I have to put on 'ignore'.

So, an update of 'where we are, so far' is probably in order.

In top place, for PCie5.0 4TB SSD I have:
MSI Spatium M580 Pro Frozr

In 2nd place, I have:
Crucial T705

In 3rd/4th place, I have:
Corsair MP700 Pro Se
Corsair MP700 Pro Se Hydro X
(These seem identical, and indeed, maybe they are the same?)

Then I have:
TeamGroup T-Force Z540
Crucial T700

If anyone ha anything they think comparable or better than any of these, please let me know - I'm looking to conclude a definitive 'top 3 or 4' list, in a day or two.......then I'll be asking the same question for Gen4. But, one step at a time.

I won't be buying/building until February, so if I can get a few top performers and a couple that are close but cheaper, I'll be able to make a decision when it comes to it.

It's for OS, Flight-Simming, and hi-end-Gaming, so it does need to be able to perform.
If your just streaming Flight Sim, save a bunch of money and get a used Gen3 drive. You aren't going to use anywhere close to Gen3 speeds.

Again. You didn't read.

2nd person I'd love to go onto ignore, but can't as they are staff! AND SO SHOULD KNOW BETTER!!

I am VERY SPECIFIC in WHAT I ASK.

READ IT BEFORE REPLYING, OTHERWISE YOU JUST CREATE NOISE, WHICH I ASKED PEOPLE NOT TO!

Is anyone else slapping their foreheads at what people reply on here?

No answer to a) or b) - just stuff I said DON'T COMMENT ON!

I debated/waited too long when COVID was rampant and if you wanted a 5950X or a RTX3090 ebay was the source and you paid a ridiculous price to get them. Get it while the getting is good. Adapted quickly to Gen5 at reasonable prices when it was available. Be Prepared is right. Engineman 3rd Class USN: Prepared.:toast:

I've a feeling I'm about to be banned, because a staff member, STILL, is UNABLE to READ, and I made the point to clarify.

This world is not heading in the right direction, if people with responsibility cannot even do the basics right.

Clearly, you get it Hank. I wish others would, when you make it so plain from the outset.

Not to derail this, but this is how life works. You don't get to single-handedly decide how you interact with humans. Any communication is a two-way street. If you ask a question publicly with the caveat "For reasons I will not go into I will only accept answers I already agree with" you are bound to get answers you are not agreeing with. Please don't block/ignore people because of this, because it will reduce the input in your life and that is a shortcut to reducing your own humanity.

OK - what I'll do is close this thread, and go with the following, in order:

1: MSI Spatium M580 Pro Frozr
2: Crucial T705
3: Corsair MP700 Pro Se (maybe X)

I'll look to measure anything new and upcoming against these specific three items, if indeed, anything new is released between now and February.

They'll give me for certain the performance I need; Then it'll be about the price on the day I look to buy.

Thanks for your input, the ones that helped me decide on the selection.

Where did I say I do??

My point being, I made it very clear, from the outset, what I was looking for, and, what I was not looking for.

Moreover, not to allow people to read into something that I just didn't write........like what you've just done!

And, earnt yourself an ignore in the process. Well done on reading something I didn't actually write! This future planet......well, I think we can already see it sliding into oblivion.

Do come back with some posts when you're doing your build, it would be interesting to see what you're getting and why!

Ok so we're going here. You're on a public forum. You're asking "I want opinions on *these specific things*" and adds "if you're ignoring my demands I'll ignore you" and you don't actually take into account ... well anything, really. You've made up your mind! It doesn't matter what anyone is showing you, you want X, even if there are a ton of arguments that Y is better. And it's a public forum, a place in which you do not dictate the terms, and so you are not the who dictates what is said and so you will be disagreed with. That is how all of this works. I'm always flabbergasted by these people who starts threads and think they are the sole dictators of how those threads develop.

Stop the bickering back and forth.
The threads are open to anyone who wishes to contribute to the topic.
Also, read the rules and stop being insulting.

Any more nonsense and the thread will be shut down.
Now, be civil.

If you not buying until Feb 2025, there will be more products by then and prices might be quite different as the market is volatile.

Personally I dont get the obsession with it having to be gen 5, it has throttle and power issues, but you made it clear thats what you want so my advice is to wait for now and come back to this question after the new year.
