In yet another overclocking feat using AMD's Phenom II series processors, Team Finland set a new 3DMark06 world-record score of 35,698 3DMarks. The team consisted of renowned overclockers Petri "SF3D" Korhonen Sampsa Kurri and Sami "macci" Mäkinen. The team used AMD's DDR3-supportive AM3 platform and used high-performance DDR3 memory to demonstrate its overclocking capabilities. The bench consisted of:
  • AMD Phenom II X4 6187MHz (4500MHz NB) under Dragon F1EE pot, liquid nitrogen cooling
  • ASUS M4A79T Deluxe (790FX chipset)
  • Corsair XMS3-2133 2x1GB DDR3-1800 CL7-7-7-1T
  • 2x Radeon HD 4870 X2 830/950MHz with stock cooling
  • Thermaltake Toughpower 1200W
As NordicHardware notes, for the first time in ages, an AMD-platform topped 3DMark06 Hall of Fame, crossing the previous record holder by 150 3DMarks. Validations of the score can be found here. A video of the feat has been posted on YouTube, and can be viewed here.

Hey bta I sent this to you a few days ago. Why didnt you post it then?

That was unexpected lol. Guess 3dmark06 doesn't like i7's or 295's.

Needed more info about the feat from NH. They follow Team Finland closely.

Meh, didn't beat the CPU top score, seems like the main reason for breaking the record was the HD4870x2's. Considering there is a single GTX295 only 1000 points away in 4th place with 2000 more in the CPU score using an i7.

Thats cool. I understand but cant I get a little credit too for the story?

FYI all you AMD naysayers Iv been dying for bta to post this. :rockout:

Record is a record.

saw this earlier today ont he futuremark site... very nice to see AMD in the top 3dm06 spot again (after so long :D).

i7 is still the faster cpu though and I think the 295 is the faster gpu.

Of course Intel has a faster CPU. Of course the 295 is faster. But then again thats not the point is it? The point is the new record is being held by AMD/ATI and with that being said the base setup is a lot cheaper to boot. Stop hatting!

very interesting news. I would like to see nvidia perfect their code for three gtx295's and see what happens lol

Holding the top spot in a race where no-one is trying anymore isn't really something to be proud of IMO.

And once LN2 comes into play, price kind of goes out the window.

I'm an amd fanboy :p cut me some slack. It is nice to see amd up there but the benchmark must be biased if better hardware isn't beating it.

Yes, we know what the fastest CPUs and graphics cards are, but they don't go into making the highest 3DMark06 score. AMD/ATI does.

I don't have cookies but I can share a Bournville. You earned it! :D

Wow, go AMD!

And we all know that if it was Intel that broke the record all the fanboi's would be going crazy about this.

That is what baffle's me

i7 and 295 come in 6th. i7 and 4870x2 come in 2nd.

the kicker being an e6600 and 8800gt in 8th.

Vantage is all i7/quad-SLI 295's... Making physx count towards the score kinda takes ATI out of that race.

AMD being on top in 3D Mark Vantage doesn't necessarily mean they are "cheating", it can also mean that nVidia has some crap drivers for the 295...
Anyway, good to see AMD "back in the game"!

Sweet thats nice to see AMD/ATI at the top and by ppl saying that nvidia is faster and blah blah yes it maybe true but like i always thought ATI has always had better driver support and fixes and usually actually know how to code unlike nvidia they seem to finally iron out there drivers just when they release there next version of video card and then they have to do it all over again trying to iron out the bugs and performance issues just before there next card comes out

I would rather have a little slower card with more stability and even performance then a card thats really fast but unstable and uneven performance in games

By an inch or a mile winning is winning

You can upload your PhysX scores on that website, but GPU PhysX scores will not qualify to enter Hall of Fame.

Quad-SLI 295 scales alot better than 2X HD4870X2 in Vantage.

sweet, i hope AMD can hang in there. They are my favorite. But i can't be stupid with my money, hence Intel rig.

This is awesome for AMD/ATI but see they used LN2. Now people like us the most we can get is really good watercooling, but we don't have the license or money to my LN2. So, Intel is still faster and the 295 on air and water.

But major props for AMD/ATI!:rockout:

Kind of a tired old benchmark. Its like using Aquamark. LOL

They made Vantage for a reason. To measure power of modern components more effectively.

I want to see them break the Vantage record. That would be a real feat.

took long enough....jeeeeeez

i still prefer intel + nvidia though :)

I doubt they will get that far on vantage.
