Pioneer just unveiled its latest 5x Blu-Ray combo drive named the BDC-S02 which Pioneer's fastest ever Blu-Ray combo drive. The 3.5-inch drive reads single-layer 25GB discs as quickly as 5X and only comes second after the recently announced LG 6x Blu-Ray Combo drive. The BDC-S02 cache is doubled compared to most drives at 4MB virtually safeguarding against any disc burning errors. The device will be available in black and white versions featuring a SATA connection and require a CPU equal to an 800MHz Pentium III for basic burning tasks. The BDC-S02 is expected to hit retail at the price of 300$.

$300 may still be allot for Blu-Ray, but it does show prices are coming down.

Well since 6 months ago they were sold for 900-1100$ i think 300$ is a huge improvement.

What ? Don't understand...

Combo drives usually refer to both HD and BD
I see no mention of HD...

In this case i think Pioneer declares it a combo drive since it also burns CD and DVD.

Like most gonna wait until a faster dual HD/BR writer is available for under £100.

Its gonna take too much time to see prices fall bellow 200$....Personally when they reach the 250$ barrier ill get one :)

Oh, perhaps i typo in their release ? Dunno.

wow, that is good. Id like some cheaper media to go along with this. then its modded ps3 and free games <G>
