I have a Mellanox 10GbE NIC in my board's 4x slot.

I briefly had my Arc A380 in the 8x slot, but stopped when I saw it lower my 16x slot to 8x.

In the x4 slot is a 10gbps NIC I got 6 years ago for $30.
Which is nice because boards with 10gbps are usually more than $30 more expensive and I have used it for two different PCs now.

What is that a DVBS2 card? That is definitely worthy of the nostalgic hardware thread. I thought that $250 was too much back in the day but if I knew what was going to happen to media I would have bought 3 and sold 2 to my best friends.

They only went to insane prices after they stop selling them. This card was like only $89 or less when I bought it.
I'm pretty sure it's a hauppauge 2250/2200
I've got two more & both the other ones TV applications all fail to even be usable in windows 10. One used QuickTime in its application software >.> Pretty sure that was an Asus one.

My last upgrade included a free X570-F motherboard but unfortunately it doesn’t support built-in Wi-Fi. I added a Gigabyte GC-WBAX210 card, which was probably for the best. The performance and overall experience with this little gigy has been FANTASTIC! Also got a decent but old sound card sitting around.. mobo audio has been great and i prefer not placing more stuff below the GPUs air intake.

2.5Gbe NIC. My primary PC's B550 board only has a 1Gbe NIC onboard. Home network switch is 2.5Gbe with a 10Gbe SFP+ DAC connection to our TrueNAS server.
My PC and my son's PC can slam the TrueNAS box with multiple 2.5Gbe connections and it scoffs at the network load.

For what I'm using right now?
Rack 1: Nothing. Staged for x1-x16 PCI-E+sata powered expansion
eMachines Server: Nothing. Staged for x1 NVME adapter card
Workstation: Nothing. Out of PCI-E lanes because x4 slot is filled with a network card.
It's rough. I want to see more x1 cards appear on the market so I have more stuff to throw into the rack.

Two HP servers with Mellanox Connect X2 10Gig SFP+ cards and USB3 cards
Two machines with Solarflare 7122 SFP+ 10Gig cards and Dell H200 SAS HBA reflashed to LSI IT-mode (Initiator-Target)
Two machines with Solarflare 7122 SFP+ LSI SAS2008 HBA in IT-mode

In some server systems, I forgo a separate GPU card and use the iGPU, to free up a valuable PCIe slot for a 10Gig NIC or SAS controller.

No lack of x4, x8 and x16 slots in my X99 Xeon and HP servers.

Once or twice a year I throw in Ageia PPU and run some old school games with hardware physx, not to be confused with NVidia Physx. I also have a PPU2 card which is twice as powerful and is an engineering sample.

my nvme's heatsink conflicts with the main pcie clamp thingie and it gets hotter there anyway. Opted for the pcie 1x, both storage and os and pathetically so, but 500mb/s still does the job.
