Power limits i7 10700

Hi, I recently purchased a pre-assembled desktop equipped with i7 10700 but when installing throttlestop in the limits window I found power limits on cores and rings.
I bought the pc because I paid little more than the selling price of only processor and gpu but this problem demoralizes me.
I wanted to know if it is possible to do something from the throttlestop settings, although I see that many are blocked. Thank you

the i7 10700K was the predecessor of my current i7 11700K. I overclocked and did never hit the 1,4V.
Yours should run smoothly @ ~1,2V. max. Approx.

I don't want to overclock it, I would like to remove the other edp limitations on cores and rings, I'm afraid they can create framedrops during my gaming sessions

It doesn't appear that your motherboard allows any power limit override. According to the tests at this site, it shouldn't really matter for gaming:

Power locked = Green Bar
Power Limits Unlocked = Blue Bar

Gaming rarely requires all-core boost at 100% utilization (where power limits are reached).

that will not happen unless u operate a real flying spaceship through the galaxy.

it has its potencial, yes, but when i look to the numbers. voltage is too kinda high in some cases 1,33V for a locked i7. and the temperatures going to 80°C-91°C max. :fear:
my i7 11700K has max-load temperatures of 45°C-65°C.
Keep in mind too much volts and high temps will cause your CPU gets "older" in a faster manner. [noticable over years only, but it happens].
beside most of the games do not harm 8*8 cores. maximum maybe 4. theres still enough space. do not torture it for no reason.
;)

Thank you for reassuring me about its correct functioning I had the nightmare of having bought a door stop, I come from several years of suffering on notebooks with limits regarding current and temperatures, I hoped to have freed myself from the limit reasons with the purchase of this fixed pc, unfortunately in this period creating an assembled desktop was too expensive for my pockets and this pc was an excellent opportunity to have a performance desktop.
The temperatures are so high because it is equipped with the intel stock heatsink I hope to be able to do an upgrade later.

get a better cooling solution! invest 50€/$ to your brandnew PC and nourish it a bit.

if you are a bit broke at the moment - get a better thermal paste, tho. it helps as well! 10€/$

I have not yet purchased it because I fear it may void the warranty of the pc, I have not yet inquired about the presence of warranty seals inside it.

the bios on that (probably very cheap) motherboard is pretty much locked down. adjusting the voltage won't make the clock speeds faster, just add more heat.

here is a video of an older model showing how locked down everything is on the models:

welcome to the crappy world of OEMs

Interesting I did not think that the gpu blower version had temperature problems, fortunately they put me a custom dual fan version that has not yet exceeded 50 °, I have to remedy only a worthy heatsink for the cpu

@Zakaru91 - To increase the Turbo Power Limits, press the TPL button.

Clear the check mark from the box, Disable Power Limit Control. Now you can set your turbo power limits to whatever you like. I would set PL1 and PL2 to the same thing, 134W. For the turbo time limit, I would use the default value of 28 seconds though this setting does not matter.

Better yet, set both turbo power limits to the maximum value. Power limits are really not necessary.
The voltages and everything else is locked down so no other adjustments are possible.

then go to the vendor, ur PC in a bag and tell him that the heck this case must be opened.
u are not willing to fry your CPU anymore.
sooner or later u will get more problems because i guess the cooler is crap and the paste beyond aswell.
tell him he can make a better deal to serve ur interests instead u coming in 2 years with a burned CPU (~275$/€) to replace.
and when hes smart enough he sells u the new cooler and the paste right away.

u have now reasons and argumentation learned while reading our conversation

yeah possible variables aside, two fans are usually better than one. though i hope you saw where the bios was locked down - i do think it was an older model but OEMs seem to do the same old same old through cpu/chipset generations.

i see a ninja. yeah i think following unclewebbs suggests will help work around that sparse firmware options. fwiw i have an old biostar H61 board. the stuff in the bios is a tease; try to adjust anything and it reverts back at boot.

good luck.

The Limit Reasons window you posted shows EDP OTHER throttling, not PL1 or PL2 power limit throttling. Your computer has locked Power Limit 4 in the TPL window and in the FIVR window it has locked the IccMax values. Adjusting these can help with EDP OTHER throttling but neither of these two options are available to you to experiment with.

It is what it is. Adjusting the power limits higher like I suggested should help prevent throttling during some tasks.

Run something simple like Cinebench and see if you can maintain full speed for the entire test.

It actually also shows pl1 on core but I had cleaned the interface a few minutes before and it didn't appear anymore
