The PowerColor HD 6970 X2 isn't the only new dual-GPU graphics card on display at PowerColor, there's also the HD 6870 X2. We're not entirely sure why one would come up with such an SKU in an already crowded performance market segment, but perhaps PowerColor is trying to squeeze in between performance levels of HD 6970 and HD 6990. While not a bad idea, it comes with the usual challenges and limitations of a dual-GPU graphics card: application support for CrossFire, and usually high power draw.

Like on the HD 6970 X2, PowerColor used Lucid Hydra technology, with a Hydra Engine chip that provides each of the two AMD Barts GPU with a PCI-E 2.0 x16 link. Users can choose between AMD CrossFire or Lucid Hydra multi-GPU technologies. With Hydra enabled, you will be able to get this card to work in tandem with any other card in the system. Each Barts GPU has 1120 stream processors, 32 ROPs, and 1 GB of GDDR5 memory across 256-bit wide memory interfaces.

Display connectivity includes two DVI, two mini-DP, and a HDMI 1.4a. The card draws power from two 8-pin power connectors. On the PCB, power is conditioned by two sets of 4+2 phase VRM. The card is cooled by a large dual-fan heatsink.

Has anyone heard of a price for this yet? I'm also wondering how bad the scaling would be if I crossfired it with a 6850.

Yes!!!

I want this. I love my CFX 6870s, To have 2 of these in my system would be killer! I'll be happy if this goes for about $450-500 or less.

btw stupid pop-ups prohibit me from clicking on next and previous image for this bit of news, not the first time to happen...... :shadedshu

I drove 45 mins by scooter to see all the goodies there (COMPUTEX) today and when I got there the people told me that Tues to Fri just for industry people only Sat is for the public. I was so ...

I was thinking about crossfiring my 6850 with another but I'm going to wait to see what the price is for this.

I think he meant when you click on an image to make it bigger.

Then again I've never seen next and previous options to select the next picture.

I think he means the new page that opens with the images...it is its own page, and doesn't allow you to select the next image.

Try a post with a couple of attachments, like in the casemod gallery?

Yup, it does it there. I haven't spent too much time in there but it looks like I'm missing out on some really cool rigs.

Back I go. :D

Estimate performance on par with HD 5970 +/- 5%

see new post in comments & feedack section

To reply about the pop-ups...while looking at an image (slideshow) on the front page, the OCZ/Newegg ad does not stay in the background (shadowed). This is on my phone's browser, and depending on the zoom, the ad covers the "next/previous slide" button. I don't have a screenie apk, I'll try to get one through adb.

New thread here with screenies (now).

Firefox add-ons = betterprivacy, adblock, pagetweak so the image opens in a new window as a image. Peerguardian takes care of the rest of the spam. No Crackheadbook / no Googspylitics / no share this linked-crap spyware.
Damn so much effort just to see most websites and only the specific website + content, did not sign up for spam, will not allow spam / 3rd party crap on my viewing website I look at.

Nice combo card, would definitely consider this instead of 2 separate cards + it gives extra expansion options to 1 pci-e slot mboards. I can see a few guys that could not upgrade their video going for this.
1x 6970 is overpriced and under performs for a viable upgrade for a lot of users, this great performance and price should be decent as well same or less than 2 separate 6870 cards in xfire.
Good stuff PowerColor.

Nice! I'd like to have one.

With all this computational and graphical horsepower increases were witnessing, i get the feeling were on the verge of something epic. Something way beyond fps or eyefinity....
until then crossfire two of these I need numbers!!!!!!!!
