Ever since the PS3 price of $600 USD was announced, critics have felt that a price drop was all but necessary. There is a pre-release flyer circling the bowels of the internet with an interesting rumor: a $500 PS3 the week of July 15th. At first, Sony merely scoffed at the $500 PS3, putting it down as just another rumor. However, once this "rumor" became pixelated, Sony was caught flat-footed, and did not have any comment on this situation.

Even if this price drop is legitimate, it could just be a simple Circuit City exclusive sale, and will end the following Sunday. The only thing we can really do is wait until July 15th for the $500 PS3. Regardless of whether or not the flyer is legitimate, you can read it below.

That'd be cool if it could happen! But I wouldn't pay $500 when I can get a brand new one for $300! But my bro in-law's aunt is a high ranking Sony something or-other, she's pretty cool and get's so many of these Half-price deals a year, in fact I'm just waiting for it to renew before I decide whether to get one or not!

Sony should just take the huge cut and drop to $450 or $400, that would make it extremely competetive to the x360, and easier to get into living rooms. I remember reading somewhere that even at $600 they were losing money on the system, but in a couple of years manufacturing processes will help them with that anyways. Still that'd be cool if their prices do start dropping. :toast:

Sweet. This might help them sell a little more, seeing as its around or close to the new xbox 360 elite pricing.

Now if they would only come out with some games...... mines just been play movies for the past 4 months :(

Yea, my Sixaxis controllers are getting pretty dusty. Final fantasy 13 better make this console worth owning.

Now just for the UK to follow suit, went into a local game store yesterday and they have the PS3 for £449 i think with one game! thats $900 USD! :shadedshu stupid damn rip off UK

EDIT: It was £425 with one "FREE" game! Thats still $850!

Don't forget if thier PS3 prices drop people maybe buying 'em just for BLU-RAY. Won't be suprised if someone tries to remove thier drive from the PS3 and work it on the comptuer
It would also screw up the prices of the BLu-ray drives that costs a ton.

WOW 500 is that all! I might buy 10 of em at that price! pff!

yeah, it cost $823 to make each console sooo they lose over $200 per sale so if they drop it, yup do the math! sony will be losing over $300 per console! ha ha i laugh at you sony!! and every person that buys one is :nutkick: sony
