AMD may be inches close to launching its high-end Radeon HD 4890 accelerator, but in its shadows, an equally exciting product-line is taking shape: the Radeon HD 4700 series, which AMD refers to as "A new paradigm of performance and price", rightly so, with the new 40 nm process the RV740 GPU is built on, and the performance that looks to put it on top of its class.

IT168.com published a few slides from a recent presentation AMD carried on, for its upcoming Radeon HD 4700 series. The most relevant slides reveal a lot about the Radeon HD 4770, the flagship product based on the RV740. The card design that has surfaced, reveals a cooler design similar to that of the Radeon HD 3870, except for a different colour-scheme and printed graphics. The card features 512 MB of GDDR5 memory across a 128-bit memory interface, which ideally churns out the same amount of bandwidth as 256-bit GDDR3, while consuming lesser power (due to lesser number of chips on the board). A slide also reveals a crucial bit about the pricing strategy AMD is planning to adopt, which shows the Radeon HD 4770 to be priced at US $99 (target SEP prices). From AMD's own ratings, the card should offer higher performance per watt and performance per dollar (in terms of rated compute power) than NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT. You can also work out from the figures that the card consumes 80 W of power. The card is slated for a May 4 launch.

depending on how they perform they might not be bad to crossfire and run in a light gaming rig/folding station.

GDDR5, 40nm, 99$ and an awesome looking cooler? Do want! :D

price is good, XFire it, you can beat GTX 285

HD 4770 X2
256 bit GDDR5.
1024 MBX2
Same config.

= WIN ?

My guess, but could be way off though.
Memory will be bottleneck if cf'd, depends on youre resolution. 1680x1050 wont be a issue ;)

An X2 varient would be interesting. The 40nm process would make the card easier to cool and probably cut down on the PCB or something. I could be wrong tho :p

oh god. HD4770X2 sounds like a great card. low power consumption and low temps and probably a smaller PCB [or not?] this would make it a great card and not to mention the OC :drools: too bad its just a dream [for now maybe? :drools even more:]. well this card sure seems interesting for a mid-range PC.

Yeah, but it will still be a power hog once OC'ed afterwards. I think I rather Crossfire the thing to get better results. Seriously, I think there could be no 1GB version since it isn't showing on the schedule. Might come through custom-made?

Man I just got my second 4850 :banghead::banghead:

would be interesting to have one... loved the stock cooler on hd3870s, 2U server style cooper block <---just brutal

but if there is X2 of this card maybe it will be ended like 4850 X2, and will kill 4870 sale or even 4890

i like what I see! 2 of them in XFire could potentially be awsome!

I may actually sell my XFX GTX 260 BE to get two of these. I like the idea of low power consumption and less heat output. With the games I play my GTX260 is complete overkill. I'm a big fan of folding all the sudden so I really may go through with this.... look out for a really nice deal on a XFX GTX260 BE everyone! I may even get three of these... :) TRI FIREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.

You do know that 2 HD4770 will consume more than a single GTX260 right?

4830 it is for me

Woah, these seem like awesome cards! I'm still going to buy my 4830 now, a month is too much to wait!

I love the comparison page between the Radeon that hasn't come out yet versus the 2+ year old card (9800GT).

9800 GT may be old, but is NVIDIA's current offering for $99.

I wants to run 4 4830 cards I dont think this new card will be that different.

Prove me wrong someone.

odd, in the early reports, the 4750 seemed to be better than the 4850, so how is the 4770 worse?
