I would expect a 3rd person shooter to be played in 1st person - because It Can. There is really very little difference in a game that's 1st or 3rd person.. accept for the viewpoint. I know.. I have played tons of 3rd person games in 1st person. They all work great. There is no special mechanics to 3rd person that will make the game not playable in 1st person. ( as long as the engine is capable)

RTS's are different animals altogether because the engine cannot do a 1st or a 3rd person perspective.

I do own 4 splinter cell games and love them because over the shoulder as they have is close enough to 1st person for me.. still yes, if I had an option to switch to true first person, I would play them in 1st person and I think they would rock.

This whole notion that 3rd person games must remain 3rd person because the game is designed that way, I have found to be untrue. There has never been a 3rd person game I played in 1st person that did not play great or that caused me to miss anything that only 3rd person could bring. That just cannot happen.. a 3d engine is a 3d engine. Think of the hybrid games that do this by default without using mods.. Oblivion, Gothic 3, DMOMM, Two Worlds - I own them all and they all work great in both views.

I didn't say 3rd person games were rubbish.. I said I didn't prefer them.

My beef with RDR is more about wanting a great sandbox western that's playable in 1st person. I have been waiting years for this type of game. I also want a great western 1st person RPG. Someone could have done this already but no one has. I think RockStar missed an opportunity.

OK, so tell me this, would the original Resident Evil work as an FPS? No it wouldnt.

but John, you have to recognize this is only your personal opinion. the majority of people will not care, and many will disagree.

I simply don't care. complaining about this is like complaining that Lord of The Rings doesn't take place in space. yeah there is no reason it can't, except it doesn't - but that doesn't mean it should.
and you are talking about giving an option, not totally changing it... which is better. I have no qualms with that, but seriously - any game more complicated than run n gun should not be FPS. simple.

Well looks like this game is one of the best games for either system, high reviews like crazy. Wondering how long the campaign is, and what kind of multiplayer there is, would be very cool to roam with friends and terrorize the lands. Also is it sandbox or not?

I rented it today after school. It seems pretty good, although I don't like how there are no large towns. They're all small outpost type places. I didn't really enough of the story to form an opinion on that yet, I activated cheats after about an hour in and it was all downhill from there :p

Here are some shots from my 3 hours of play so far (sorry for the bad quality).

This can't be good...

Check out my pet bear.

Lastly, some roaming buffaloes.

Does the game look as good as the trailers? I was watching those and they looked flat out amazing, but I just can't see the PS3 or 360 pushing that much detail.

Nah. It looks hardly any better than GTA IV to me. Some of the wide far shots of the desert or whatever look pretty nice but I'm sure a lot of that has to do with the FOV. Also, the horses and person seem to suffer from the same movement issues as they did in GTA IV. Like, if you're on your horse its so easy to hit something and just stop with no animation or easy to get stuck on something because it won't realize you're trying to jump over it. I think it's that movement engine that's screwy.

no i would disagree. I think for me it's the setting though. they could have done nothing to visual effects and it would still look better depicting a dusty field than an urban city. just so much more in the city that must be rendered, it's hard to do it all well..

Hmmm ,isnt anyone gettin it for PC:eek:

When is it coming out for the PC? I haven't heard a single thing about its release on here as of yet...so, if you want to play it now (and not have to wait 4 months to a year) you'd have to get it for a console.

Rockstar Games has relesed no info on a PC version, but, as they have in the past, they may release a PC version a couple months from now,

Too bad it will probably be a crappy port like GTA4 was. It is a shame too. I just can't justify getting it on the PC unless the graphics are that much better than the console versions.

The screens a few posts up looks terribly grainy to me. Take that with a grain of salt though, cause my display is running 2560x1600 (so even 1080p blu-rays look grainy, LOL).

Awesome game! Love pretty much everything about it. Everything except that you don't play as Red from Red Dead Revolver, but it's a completely different story..

The game would probably come out on PC since its Rockstar and expect a poor port since the game uses sam e game engine as GTA IV (RAGE).

Hopefully the game gets available in India by next week we can have a co-op

I played the multiplayer for a few hours. I was having a blast when I got paired up with a good posse but as soon as those guys split I was just left with like 4 guys who didn't want to group up and only wanted to kill meh. I didn't try out any of the specific multiplayer game modes, just did the missions you can do with your group in free roam. Got to level 6 (out of I don't know how many) in about 1.5 hours.

ok so i played both ps3 and 360 versions last nite, they really are almost exactly the same.

360 looks a fraction sharper and ps3 looks a fraction smoother - but I had to switch back and forth between TV inputs to notice it. without paying attention and testing, you wouldn't tell much of a difference.

Makes sense, if the 360 has better AA it will be sharper, but it will be harder for it to push that detail. Personally when flat out gaming, I don't notice AA at all, it's only when I stop and look at things, and even then, I feel 2x is enough to make me happy, but if I can run it higher I do.
