RTX 4060 - strange idle power readings

The card was tested by @W1zzard and has considerably less idle power consumption: 10 W.
I believe it's software / VBIOS related. Just wanted to point it out.

My 4070 is awso pulling more then on the reviews :( it is around 33 watt but should be 17 watt. I am on driver version 531.79

Did you find any fix for the high idle power or any confirmation that this is just a Vbios missread ?

Strange, mine averages between 6.5 and 7.5 watt with just a browser open, a little less just sat at the desktop. I am on 536.23.

Best way to check is to use specialized hardware, like nVidia PCAT.
But I wouldn't worry about it. @W1zzard has access to such devices and has posted the results. No worries.

I just found the problem my card wasn't clocking down in idle and it stay with a gpu clock speed of around 2500mhz

I had to switch in the nvidia control panel "Power managment mode" where i had there "Prefer maximum performance" but i switched it to normal
and the card now uses only 7-9 watt in idle. I guess case closed on this one and was a pretty easy fix. Now awso the zero fan mode started to work again befor that they would aways spin...

So maybe your 50 watt is awso related to this issue that your card is not clocking down as well ? You can check that out if thats the case to you and see if it fixes your high idle power as well.. Good luck

For what it's worth I've had this same issue (using RTX 4060 Low Profile), but when testing the GPU independently it only draws 8-15 watts, while still reading 51.5-53W.
It seems to be a discrepancy with the way the GPU is reporting power draw and the way it's being understood by software (GPU-Z, HWInfo, all have the same reading).

Interestingly it shows 0.0% TDP so it's an issue with the "current/power" sensor versus the "TDP" (or maybe "% of TDP" or "distance to TDP") sensor.

::EDIT:: Never mind, it still reads 0.0% TDP with the fuzzy donut running.

Maybe its a driver issue or something?

Looks like it's been fairly well covered by a few outlets, primarily IgorsLab. But yes looks like it's an issue with the nVidia API with recent drivers/OS
