RX 480 vs 1060, several month ago vs now, the AMD driver improving over time is not a myth

Alright, but what about users on the forum reporting regressing performance with new iterations of Nvidia drivers, while AMD seems to be increasing?

We're not...

o_O

I've had zero issues with my 980ti. Also, the utter uselessness of stating "your card isn't as good as it was a year ago in that title you finished a year ago" is amusing. I now play BF1 at god knows what smooth fps at 1440p with ultra textures...no problems. Am I meant to care that NV stopped optimising for games a year old? Of course not.

Also - a lot of these optimisations bring zero real world performance difference. Sometimes a driver release botches some fps in some titles but they often get ironed out next release. No, only the weird ones have an issue with some conspiracy of degraded performance in last years games...

pay particular attention to the "frames tested" portion towards the bottom of each respective image. And to be clear, i have no opinion really either way, i am not disagreeing with you, just posting these , since i happened to have them from today, as im testing this theory you have mentioned for myself.

Does anyone happen to know where the "sweet spot "driver is? Meaning which one or which version? I'm just curious if I went to far back by using the 361.75

You can actually notice lesser variance in the older drivers performance graph (the blue line at the bottom )

Going to try using a more well known benchmark maybe unigine and see what results I come up with

i cant seem to replicate this theory that performance drops with newer Drivers...maybe im using the wrong versions, but IMO if that is the case, it sort of proves the theory moot...i have made MY decision atleast. newer drivers are NOT slower performing atleast with GTX 970 Reference GPU's ...replicated with 2 different older drivers, compared to 2 different Newer drivers....maybe the theory is based off of gaming performance...maybe someone could quote a source?

Whoa now...

I'm only pointing out what I've seen. Newer Nvidia drivers decreasing performance, and this thread where AMD seems to have an upward trend in their performance levels. I'm not saying there's a conspiracy, or that these small differences will actually matter. I'm merely pointing out that I've seen many people say AMD have shit drivers and Nvidia drivers are great, and now, it seems that trend is going the other way...

I've been hearing reports of new drivers either reducing, or simply neglecting to improve performance of Maxwell 1.0, and Kepler cards.
Has anyone here experienced this?

Already seeing even more improvement with the latest Crimson driver update in GTA V Benchmarking Run.

jboydgolfer, it might have something to do with you having a 8-core CPU. Maybe nVidia is getting that feature "Threaded Optimization" to work better than before especially more than 4 core CPUs because they start to spread more across consumers? .... Just a hypothesis.
EDIT: I notice that min FPS jumped from 23 to 29! that is cool, right?

Benchmark Scores Faster than yours... I'd bet on it. :)
Going to try using a more well known benchmark maybe unigine and see what results I come up with

They wouldn't base it off unigine.....

Test some games.
