der8auer 5 card testing show abnormally high delta of average to hot spot temp, plus permanent uplift in temp and fan RPM after mounting horizontally (see 14:38 for the "flip test"). Suggesting permanent vapor chamber failure.
Say a recall of all 7900XTX reference (including 3rd party) is not unreasonable move as a very high number (thousands so far) reporting this problem.
Might dwarf the 12VHPWR saga from NV side, if true.

Stuff your popcorn and enjoy the ride.

Man this launch has not gone smoothly for AMD at all.

So many times theyve have a major gpu launch the hype train goes into overdrive and then it all falls apart as they manage to kick some sort of epic own goal (or multiple... ).

Shouldn't be a problem for aib models but man on a 900$+ product if be pissed to have so many issues, or at least possible issues, that aren't user error. I certainly am not keen to beta test such an expensive product where the results are completely beyond my control without driver updates or card disassembly, seen a lot of that in reddit, repasting and repadding to keep the card from throttling bone stock...

Although easily avoided (just don`t buy the reference), it can damage badly AMD`s image as a quality alternative to NV.
A 'gift' with a sour taste from AMD to all those who get that shiny new 7900XTX for holidays- if will shown as a widespread issue.

I can see the wolves circling. Let's keep this amicable and practical. I'm getting sick of partisan BS graphic card threads.

I wonder if this is the same with the 12v power connector thing with Nvidia, there's a supplier working on the cooler that messed up? After all, I doubt AMD actually makes the cooler, surely it's a third party part built to spec that they fit to the board?

Regardless, not good PR at all.

It's really unfortunate that this (and the other issues) has happened, they gained SO much momentum with RDNA2 (broadly speaking, there was still some negative aspects and some insultingly greedy/cut back skus) and so far RDNA3 high end only launch has had multiple issues that have really put a damper on said much needed momentum, right when their market share means they need every last ounce they can get.

Radeon VII was hitting 110c before throttling and AMD said that was normal.

More to the point, it does seem like if you vertically mount the card, it'll be fine. It's not ideal by any stretch of the imagination, but works better. It's horrible PR because it means AMD and partners have effectily increased prices as you have to pay more for a partner card.

Well W1zzard's review turned me away from it, shit did not seem right and ended up worse than i thought.

They rushed this shit out for Christmas.

It`s seems OK only if you vertically mount it from the start/first use, because after mounted horizontally it will say with worse temp and more fan RPM even if re-mounted vertically.

There is nothing wrong with 12vhpwr connector beside it wasn't made fool-proof enough  (and also ugly), some users didn't realize they did not fully plug in the connector

What AMD have here is terrible QC, they should just de-fund the marketing department and put more money into their QC department.

funniest thing is now AMD/Nvidia/Intel outsourced the Quality Control department to the youtubers

Shitty drivers on ARC
Bad connectors on Nvidia
Bad design of the cooler on AMD

What to this billion dollar companies even do before releasing the cards? party hard and f*** the consumers?
At least it's Chinese one dollar crap, imagine if this was 1000USD+ products.

Possibly a stretch, so thousands had a issue but few came here for help, I think we should leave the dramma at the door personally unless you have seen proof it's thousands, and to me it's pointless speculative information.

his point i think was that you have to RECALL them all, most people don't even care to see the temps let alone those specific temps. You should not leave this to who wants to RMA it, it was his exact words if i remember correctly.

and i think he's right, that's a defect that can shorten the cards lifespan

And where is he getting thousands from as a number.
When 12 pin cables burned did der8aur call for a full recall, no, more information required.
So I think I will wait for further information.
Surely user's everywhere will now inform us in the thousands now eh.

der8auer 5 card testing show abnormally high delta of average to hot spot temp, plus permanent uplift in temp and fan RPM after mounting horizontally (see 14:38 for the "flip test").

The video falls into the "too long, didn't watch" category for me. Can you do a quick recap? :)

I've seen a post complaining about 110 °C hotspot with around 60 °C delta between hotspot and junction, but that was a severely overclocked card at a questionable news outlet. Knowing der8auer, I wouldn't be surprised if this was the case here as well. What I do find surprising is that we haven't heard anything from more credible sources (TPU, Hardware Unboxed, Gamer's Nexus).

There are several details missing at this point:
  • What is "the huge delta" between hotspot and junction?
  • Is the card running at default?
  • How much does it downclock? Is it noticeable in performance (up to a level that a 3DMark stress test picks it up)?
My reference 6750 XT also runs at 105+ °C hotspot, but the card is rock solid, passes every stress test, and as AMD PR says: it's "within spec".

And where is he getting thousands from as a number.
When 12 pin cables burned did der8aur call for a full recall, no, more information required.
So I think I will wait for further information.
Surely user's everywhere will now inform us in the thousands now eh.

Jesus man what have you drunk in new years eve, you have to RECALL, them all. Then it depends on how many people send back, but thousands surely

Most factories get some defective products to the market. I think a percentage of chambers are faulty and they need to RMA those ones.

@AusWolf , der8auer had at least 3 7900 XTX exhibit the same temp issue if I remember the video correctly. Here there seems to be a fault with the VC. the 16pin connector hazard was faulty mounting from end users?

Right so der8aur said recall them all.

And.

Based on what.

His excited ass because if there's a actual issue worthy of that which at this point I think is a stretch.

If it's as big an issue as der8aur says USERS will be along to back his claim or.

Clicks.

Gotta catch em all.

I Don't drink and I don't appreciate bringing God into the convo.
