Still nothing that couldn't have been fixed with new thermal paste and some fan maintenance, but like I said, you do you.
Personally, I find more joy in repairing and re-using old hardware than destroying it for no reason. Each to their own.
That's why first I re pasted it and changed fans. And now it is crashing in games that don't use that much of gpu, but gtx 1050 is working fine, (the card was dying, random computer freezes and then bsods, sometimes screen went black and no response, sometimes black but fans spin like stupid, and problems with display port, and hdmi. ) and after few test reinstall windows and other stuff it was still bad, that's why I've bought 9070 xt. After some tweaks it was stable for around week, and I was happy that I won't need new card, old gts 450 is still working in some rig somewhere i think :). And gtx 1070 ti is going to friend that will try to revive it. (I've got some things that are more urgent than trying to revive damaged card, unfortunately).

That's exactly how my 2070 died. Maybe a common Nvidia thing?

My 1050 Ti is still going strong, though.

A for those who are thinking about buying gpu and reading this, graphics cards with vapor chamber has some problems if You orient it in bad way.
I've got gigabyte gaming oc 9070 xt that has vapor chamber. (with normal card cooling it is not a problem.)
image_2025-04-10_12-42-02.png
I've got case with reverse mounted gpu, and on windows I've had problems with cooling it, on weekend I will try second case with classic horizontal mount. (and more fans, and airflow.)

For now I know that Gigabyte aourus and gaming 9070 xt, and xfx mecury oc 9070 xt has vapor chamber. (From official data from gigabyte and xfx sites)

Just watched this.
Would everyone here go along with his conclusions?
I've already been doing this in Cyberpunk path-tracing.

I agree with his conclusions, some minor imperfections as expected with any upscaler but going from 360p to 1080p genuinely looks so good. I would say it maintains a good 90% of the original image, add some gameplay and you won't notice the missing 10%.

New member of the club, I grabbed a 9070 XT Pulse.

Btw, it came with samsung memory:

Congrats dude! Wanna to share the full details so I can add you at the list? Hope you managed to get it for a decent price in the end.

Also, if you get a chance, feel free to share your VRAM temps, would be great to have another data point with Samsung chips for comparison.
But most importantly, enjoy your new card! :toast:

Done! How's that Nitro+ behaving after the first month? :)

I'm wondering for those who have, if you had an option when purchasing what made you lean towards or away from certain cards.

Due to being broke AF I'm waiting for tax time to jump into this crowd (from a 6800XT so I'm not running a slideshow at least) but I keep gravitating to a powercolor hellhound or sapphire pure spec (so mid range of the cards)

I'm just wondering motivated people with options in the direction they went.
I had a GTX 1080 since 2018, and once I moved to a 3440x1440 monitor around 2021–2022, I started noticing the card struggling in certain games, especially in scenarios where VRAM became a limiting factor. I held off upgrading for a while, waiting for the GPU market to stabilize, but eventually got tired of waiting after so many years.

This January, I went for a 7800 XT as part of my new rig. Luckily, I was still within the return window when the RX 9070 launched, and I managed to grab one at MSRP on day one so I swapped them. The timing couldn't have been better.

edit:

@Djilkosh really nice temps and results!!! Keep up the good work!
@tonetron I added you to the list, hope you don't mind :)
@Kwadratowicz those are nice results! Wanna share full details as well?

I've seen major image quality improvement in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 compared to FSR 3, but I still wouldn't want to rely on it if I can help it.

That's awesome! How are the VRAM temps? The cards with Samsung memory I've seen so far seem to run cooler.

Yeah the more I've played around with different games over extended gaming sessions I'm just not seeing memory temps anything close to the high 80's others have reported.

Just letting the card run completely stock and boost as it wants and let the default fan profile do it's thing my average memory temps float around 76-78C. As l reported bit earlier in the thread, Samsung VRAM on my Nitro+.

I'll try to run some test this evening. I was thinking using Cyberpunk 2077 benchmark and HWiNFO64, but I'm open for suggestions. Still trying to familiarize with all the options in Adrenalin...

Sure. I got it (Sapphire Pulse 9070 XT) from Coolmod, a spanish shop for 739€, tax included. They lasted about 5 minutes.

I have a 7900xtx nitro+ and the fans are set to VRAM as well, because they start when the memory junction temperature rises to around 60°C. The GPU hotspot can still be around 40-50°C.

It's been great, I sidegraded from a 7900 XTX Nitro+. The only issues i've had are vram temps of over 85c sometimes during heavy gaming. But i'm reading here that most 9070 XTs vram tends to run hot so maybe it's normal

Yeah, I saw them at 789 EUR when I messaged you, looks like they applied a price drop shortly after. That’s just 50 EUR above launch MSRP, really solid deal! ¡Enhorabuena! I managed to grab my Pulse 9070 (non-XT) at PCComponentes for 634 EUR on launch day, but Coolmod's offers vanished in under 5 minutes too, so I’m honestly happy for you, great timing! Mind if I add you to the owners list in the first post?

The idea is mostly to check idle/load VRAM temps without any custom fan curve, just to compare how Samsung chips behave compared to the more common Hynix ones at the first batch. But feel free to run whichever test you're most comfortable with. CP2077 is a solid one though :)

Yeah, that's been the case with most 9070/XTs using Hynix chips. A light tweak on the fan curve can drop VRAM temps by 5–10ºC easily. Worth a try!

After some runs with the CP2077 benchmark tool to warm the gpu, tried a full ultra with RT (not PT, it hangs the game whith the current adrenalin it seems) native res (2K) and it gave me a solid 42 fps. Awesome.

Those are indeed nice temps! And another nice proof that Samsung chips run noticeably cooler out of the box. I played God of War (native 3440x1440 high/ultra) for about 2h30min with mine, and here are my readings. Room was around 22°C with the windows closed, so no fresh air coming in, it probably would've been 2 to 4°C lower otherwise. So even with Hynix chips, I can't really complain that much either.

edit: I must add, while in game, overlay shows a constant of 80ºC, that 82ºC is pure max and on Forza Horizon 5 at 76-78ºC peaking at 80ºC

I've included some Adrenalin screenshots so you can see my current undervolt and fan curve settings. As for the TBP shown in HWMonitor, it might be picking up occasional spikes, since the card is actually capped at 213W, as shown in Adrenalin. This is on a Sapphire Pulse 9070 non-XT

Yes, sure. No problem :)
Will do in a minute! Again, enjoy that beast! :toast:

So then, shall we conclude that Hynix VRAM runs hotter than Samsung?

I'm assuming it's down to the design of the chip, or the location of the temperature sensors in it.

Mine is about the same as yours - although I have to say that something in Linux (maybe the KDE desktop?) won't let my VRAM go below 912 MHz.

Add 6º-8ºC more to the maxs if I had the zero-RPM mode on, right now these are the temps with light tasks, some browsing and youtube with fan on, at its bare minimum 15-17%. This is on a 22ºC ambient room temp with windows closed, so no extra cooling. Note that my card is running Hynix chips on the VRAM.

idle-lightbrowsing.JPG

Now back to gaming, as stated in my previous post, with my room windows opened and a constant breeze on night-temps so around 18-19ºC ambient. 10min idling + 1h30min gaming + 15 min idling, a drop of around 4ºC on maxs as stated.

temps_gpu4.JPG

It's worth mentioning that I’ve got 2x120mm fans blowing directly into the card, even if they’re just running at 700–900 RPM. Adding a picture for reference (don't judge the covering panel, it was just a fit-test with a very improvised design, still needs improvement). This is just to highlight that for air-cooled cards like ours, ambient temps play a big role, and of course, proper case airflow is key.

If you're seeing high idle temps and it concerns you, the first thing I'd check is your case airflow. And just in case, try disabling the zero-RPM mode and setting a less aggressive fan curve than the one Adrenalin uses by default. Sure, it might shorten the fans’ lifespan a bit, but with an average of 50,000 hours, if not more, I'd say we're safe even with the fans running constantly.

However, unless you have a disease-obssession with temperatures as I do, even if it's just for scientific purposes, I'd say it again, don't worry at all, your cards are safe and running within spec temps, so let's enjoy them! :)

edit: I must add that, after switching to 120Hz monitor, I saw memory clocks scaling more than often to 2505MHz on certain browser-accelerated tasks, not just related with video, this didn't happen on 60Hz where max clocks on these tasks were 909MHz and scaling down properly, which led to lower temps, at least in Windows, not as the situation as @AusWolf mentions on his linux installation.
