Screen response times?

I have a Dell 2007WFP and it's amazing, only downside is that it's rated at 16ms response time..is that actually that bad? I mean, I'll be running an 8800GTS next build...will I notice it lagging or something?

depends if u play fast movign games really i suppose.

my old Hanns-G 191D 19" was 5ms and it did ghost very slightly in very fast games,most were fine but the odd 1 did ghost a little.

never used a Dell screen but id think it must be pretty old to have a 16ms response time?
u might be lucky but i think u could have probs with gaming on it.

My rule of thumb is 8ms or better. There are some games that make me wish my monitor had better than 5ms. Just play some games, some people are driven crazy by ghosting, others can't tell wtf those people are talking about.

IMHO =<5ms is the best.I heard that if its like 2ms it will cause problems too.But I havent own such ones to say if its true.16ms will have some ghosting with fast FPS.

my monitor has a 2ms response time nothing weird with it no vertical tearing no ghosting and is set at 75hz no eye strain its really easy to look at.

my current screen is 2ms and tbh its best screen ive owned,no ghosting in anything.

dont know where u heard 2ms has probs ,1st ive heard of it,id highly rec a 2ms screen espec for gaming.

Ironically, Dell have a fairly logical naming scheme for their monitors;
Size/Year/Model.

So mine's a 20" 2007 Wide Flat-Panel screen.

but yeah...reading around most places say 16ms and under, others say tighter timing like <6ms..

If I need to replace my screen when I have my next build, what's a good candidate considered that I'm not made of money, and that me likey 20.1" widescreen...

EDIT: also, the whole 2ms thing is a reputed claim that "2ms screens sometimes freeze because they're too fast" which just goes to show...
jealous people are really bad at making stuff up..

My flatscreen has 5ms, and I notice little to no ghosting, not enough to be a hinderance...and only see the occasional page tear if I don't use Vsync. Aside from that 1440x900 @ 75hz is great.

My parents had a 16ms for a while...I did not enjoy anything fast moving on it. But you can at least try it out..if it doesn't work, sell it and replace it!

tbh i suggest a samsung ,they do both a very good 20" and 22" that both can run 1680*1050

mines in my sig ,but a know a couple of ppl who have the 20" model of mine and they says its very good ,does same res. i know there are probably other brands that r decent ,but cant go wrong with a sammy tbh ,and dont forget they probably supply half of the other manufacturers with panels anyway.
i beleive theres only 2 or 3 manufactuers of quality panels anyway, samsung being 1 of them.

But you have to watch how they rate them to, some colors can take longer to lite, and some companies like to play with their ratings, like time to lite but don't count time to dim.... Lots comes into play... A friend of mine has a cheap no-name panel that claims 3ms and it blurs, mine says 8ms and doesn't, my brothers says 10ms and doesn't.

There is no manufacturer that quotes true specs. Response times all vary. Some quote grey to grey, others quote black to grey, very few quote black to black, and even less tell you which they are quoting.

I would never trust the manufacturers rating. You need to see the panel in person before you decide.

I've got the Dell E207WFP (the cheaper version of yours) and I have to say it looks awesome. Quoted 5ms respone time. No idea if that's correct but I get no ghosting, blurring or tearing.

I had a MAG screen - it had a very peelable sticker on the top saying 6ms. It ghosted a lot, was unbearable.

Within 4 months it developed 6 faulty pixels. I sent it back to the shop I bought it from who gave me an old 19" Olidata as a replacement. The shop I bought it from sent it back to the agent. The agent is giving them (me) problems saying that the pixels are not totally faulty... or whatever that means... True some are blacker and some are greyer.

On topic though. I noticed the old Olidata doesn't ghost at all. The MAG even ghosted webpages as I scrolled down and got me dizzy! I don't know it's ms response time this Olidata has though I would like to get to know. It performs so much visually better than the MAG I originally bought that I asked them for the option to keep it... LOL

well, this response time is grey to grey, I made sure of that when I bought it (it gives you a little quality assurance but perhaps not much)
also, Dell's "No Dead Pixel" guarantee and 3-year warranty are both reputable it seems.

I guess the only way to know is to fire it up when I have the PC...*sigh*
If I can't deal with it then, I'll look into a Samsung or a Hanspree 37" HDTV (only because if it's cheaper, it'll still have 2xHDMI ports)
