Should i upgrade from Ryzen 5 3600 to a Ryzen 5 5600

I am currently running a Ryzen 5 3600, 32gb ddr4 3600MHz and an RX 6600xt. I'm thinking to upgrade the CPU for a 5600, because its around 86 euro in AliExpress and ill probably sell the 3600 for 50 euro.

If you can. Unless you already have a buyer on the hook, you are assuming someone is willing to pay 50€ for it. You may not get that much.

Even if you could get the 5600 for 36€ (86 - 50), I personally don't think it worth it because I don't think you will "see" much, if any significant difference in performance - except through the placebo effect and on paper (benchmark scores). Even for that price, it just is not that big a step up.

Now, for those gaming with a slower GPU, something along the lines of the mid-range Radeon 6600 XT, the Ryzen 3600 was on average 23% faster than the 1600 at 1080p, while the 5600 was 14% faster than the 3600. At 1440p we're looking at single-digit margins as performance was generally heavily GPU limited.

It really depends on the game but over 25 games it was not a major difference at 1080p

OP's 32GB of DDR4-3600 isn't in need of an upgrade, the CPU is. If he can upgrade it for ~40EUR, that's not much and without a doubt a wise upgrade.

Yeah, and with a faster GPU, the difference increases noticeably. It was almost like a night and day difference when I upgraded from 3600 to 5800X when I had the same 6700 XT.

Look again at his specs. He is showing 16GB for this PC and 16GB for his laptop. It does not show 32GB for the PC or else I would agree with you.

Is 5700x a consideration? same zen 3 cores with 2 extra and 16 threads would be a more substantial upgrade though for the $36 a 5600 would also be decent

Get a 5700x or 5700G if it's cheap enough. If you can afford it I'd suggest €20~40 more for the extra 2 cores!

It's a cheap upgrade, and if that's all you can afford it's worth it.

However if you're going to bother upgrading for ~15% better performance, might as well go straight to the 5600/5700X3D to get 45% better performance instead, and be on the best CPU AM4 supports so no need for further upgrades down the line unless you do a platform switch.

Otherwise I'd say keep the 3600, upgrade to 2x16 GB RAM instead, and get a 5700X3D when you can afford it.

Upgraded from 3700X to 5600X at the end of 2020 and it was great upgrade.
And if you wanna really see it, do what @dgianstefani told you - go for 5700X3D. They are dirt cheap now, sub 200 EUR in EU shops.

And - beware of fake CPUs from Ali/Temu. There are quite few cases last couple of weeks, from Zen3 CPUs to 7800X3D.

3600 to 5600 is an underwhelming upgrade and the kind I would do just to passively move up to 5000 series. Not worth it.
At announcement it looked like a great choice because it's a direct replacement of these 6c/12t entry level chips.
Then I noticed it would be a 6% gain over my current overclock.
Then a new BIOS flash unlocked the SAM feature for 3000 series.
Then AMD continued making more chips for AM4.

I'm still on this 3600 after all these years because nothing pulls me in any particular direction to upgrade.
The 5950X/5900XT are off the table because I don't need that much CPU ever, at any price.
The 5900X would effectively double the speed (threads) with all the newer features and it's a reasonable capstone.
The 5700X3D/5800X3D is the round rocket option. Good intro to 5000 series, true 8c/16t, X3D technology at the price of overclocking.
The price on X3D is also recently coming unglued from reality due to demand of unreasonably good performance.

The last time I made a direct socket CPU upgrade purchase was in 2018 when I went from Phenom II X4 955 to FX-8370.
One Black Edition chip straight over to another. The price then immediately went from $150 to $400 and pinned itself there for a few months.

What does this all mean? I have no idea but I'm still not ready to budge from the 3600. Good luck figuring it out.

If not reputable and unreliable, users would not be wasting their time submitting them. So to say it should be avoided at all costs is just naïve bias - unless of course, you are right and everyone else is wrong.

Second, to come in and make such a claim with no supporting evidence helps no one.

Fourth, if what you proclaim is true, then by your reckoning, @crlogic, the Ryzon 5 3600 is far superior than the R5 5600 and the OP should keep his R5 3600 - since UserBenchmark is so unreliable and has such a lousy reputation, right?

The only viable alternative is reviews and direct real life comparisons. Like TechPowerUp reviews and their comparison charts, or Youtube channels like Testing Games which gives side by side gameplay comparing hardware

And they do have a lousy reputation, everywhere and by everyone. Go look at the bottom of their website trying to defend themselves say all negative sentiment is bots or paid shills

I say go for it. I had one, set it to ECO mode with a +200MHz PBO and it was effectively a 5600X that sips power.

As said, upgrade of mine was from 3700X to 5600X. It was 500+ MHz difference in max boost clock and 5600X ran much cooler. So you will notice improvements in heating and clock.

But also being said, you should have/could have put 5700X3D and be the king of AM4 but this is also ok.

yes i updated. and to be honest I'm more inclined to spend 20 to 30 bucks more for something a bit better rather than 150 more.
