Sony BMG Accused of Piracy

None of the big record labels support music piracy, but it has to be said that Sony BMG has come into the spotlight more than most about this topic, especially when it sold CDs which secretly installed a rootkit on the customer's computer in an attempt to prevent them illegally sharing songs. However, the company is now on the receiving end of an anti-piracy case regarding software installed on four of its servers. French software developer PointDev discovered that Sony BMG was supplying pirated license keys to some employees for the company's Ideal Migration software, which meant it was able to mandate a seizer of Sony BMG's assets. The subsequent raid has revealed that as much as 47% of software on Sony BMG's servers may be pirated, and the music label now faces a €300,000 (over $470,000) lawsuit from PointDev.

Its funny, Sony finds them selves in this situation often enough. They try to find ways to stop piracy but alls it has done is cost them. Honestly, in my mind the easiest way to reduce/stop piracy is to offer the product at a good price, and by good price I mean relavent to the method of delivery. Think about it, back in the day a CD would cost me 12 maybe 13 bucks. Now I have to pay 99 cents or more for a song?? what! First off, they dont have to make the CD and distribute it, and they dont have to use a retail store to get it to me.

If I could download any CD I wanted at say... 5 bucks a pop. I would buy all the CDs my heart desired.

Im sure all the legal problems that they have faced with these attempts they make have cost them way too much. Money they could have spent on people to develop better ways to get the media to paying customers!

Sony needs to start listening to their consumers!!

yeah i agree. If movies cost me $10 and i chose the delivery/quality (EG blu ray, DVD, VCD - perhaps cost more for teh higher quality) then i'd do that - $30-$50 per movie is excessive.

Music is the same, $5 per allbum, or $0.50 per song or something. make it cheap, and the VOLUME of sales will make up for the lower price.
