OFFICIAL Star Citizen

The burden of proof is on CIG. If they deliver what was promised then the naysayers are wrong.

As for the Persistent Universe, the project status page says "design" phase which means it is almost definitely going to get pushed until 2016 at the earliest.

you're the one who said crude and not final....

lol

a lot of that stuff they mentioned it in CitizenCon

Well hopefully this will get people back into positive thoughts for SC. Cool to hear Mark Hamill is going to be starring in SQ42. I must admit I don't follow this title very closely...though after playing CQC in Elite, I am feeling the itch to finally get my CH combo programmed for AC and give it a go again.... just takes forever to get right...

But regardless, I think its cool they're allowing everyone access without having to buy the extra pass. Good move and PR on their part. Now let's get to Alpha 2.0!!!! I want some universe to fly around in! :D

Well.

I can't wait for SC to be developped further... with the FPS module released and more content.
I know this game is going to be HUGE but man, 3 years already (if I'm correct)

Hopefully, they release it within the next 2 years

People keep comparing a new studio with old established ones. It's just not comparable. And 3 years in development is nothing for such huge projects. And neither is the cost.

Would be awesome to have space sim combined with FPS and have two different groups of people combined in a single game. Some like space flight sims, some of us prefer FPS shooters, this could work together. They do the flying, we do the shooting inside :D I can see that working in huge space battles :D

Yah but I do believe there's such a thing as "too much ambition". If they're not careful the project could fall flat on its face

Not really... Not anymore anyways, there's a lot done and they'll be feature/ concept complete in the next few months. Lots of bugs yet but it's working out. Check out some of the latest vids on their YouTube channel. I'm also giving a package away in another thread if you're interested. :)

Sure there were companies who were victims of their ambitions, but sometimes you have to risk it in order to succeed.

4-5 years is typical for a brand new game; 2-3 years is typical for an expansion to an existing game. I would not be surprised if Star Citizen takes 6-8 years because the scope of the title grew.

EVE Online/Dust 514

I can't ever get over the irony of them making the FPS component exclusive to PlayStation 3...which is horrible for shooters because no mouse.

With how early SC got into the public eye I wouldn't be surprised to see a full universe beta in late 2016/early 2017 and a full SC/s42 release in 2018.

This full pass going forward is awesome though, I can enjoy it all now! :D

I think s42 comes before full universe.
S42 being single player etc.

I'm not sure on the timescale.

Asset generation is by far the biggest consumer of time, And I think due to the modular system once they have enough assets we will see a very rapid deployment of features.

I doubt very much that there is nothing to show for the time spent, What we see is just the bit they can show us, The interesting stuff with some polish to it. The real game will be made on the things we don't see. And we don't see them because individually those pieces are intangible. It's only once 100 models come together we have a starbase, or structure. The stringing together and level creation is actually the simple bit as they just template out and modify. Or even set a random generator up and just let the computer go wild. It might be a persistent world but that doesn't mean it can't have it's origins with random generation.

The assets we deal with are the harder ones, and the ones we all are noticing atm. Voice acting, Animation, Ship design. Once the hard assets are down the production speed will rocket.

the buggy carnage is great lol.
I still can't get over the fact of how much detail there is.
I just stood there by the new crane looking at everything.

I can't wait for the next PTU patch!! Actual small scale universe and all that.

Some members are, some are waiting for the game to progress a little more before committing their time to it.

Tons of info released today with the livestream and videos on the RSI youtube channel. The next major version (alpha 2) is being released to 1,000 of the most active bug reporting backers tonight with the aim of a full public release in a week or so, which will be pretty damned awesome as this is finally the start of the game proper (huge space to fly in, picking up missions and completing them, multicrew, EVAing, FPS combat, repair/refuel initial system, hangar ready Vanguard ships, flight ready constellation and retaliator bomber etc). Very exciting.

We've got a the Anvil Crucible released for sale (repair ship), the avenger variants for sale, the P72 for sale (racing variant of the P52 that docks into Constellation ships). Oh and they're releasing 1,000 $30 game packages a day to let newcomers buy the game for slightly less.

Can't wait for this release! I'll be in ASAP.

Just got my 2.0 PTU invite - they're already getting a second build out and have increased invites to 5,000 people so things are accelerating nicely :D

I got mine too, played a little bit though lots of crashing.

This is a great gameplay video with a Constellation:

Anyone emptying their wallet of any more disposable cash with the ship sale going on? Pick up anything you're especially excited about?

Lost all my disposable cash in the Great Spending of '12.

well ... i could not resist to swap my Kruger P52 Merlin for a Kruger P72 Archimedes LTI package ...

tho now my only flyable model is : RSI Aurora MR (SQ42 pre order)
non flyable: Aegis Sabre (non LTI) Kruger P72 Archimedes, Aegis Retaliator (LTI and cargo LTI modules rear/front and probably will replace all manned turrets for C-788 "Combine" Ballistic Cannon once flight ready, for test purpose )

after so much swap and compulsive change ... i guess i will settle on that and wait in finished game for the other ships  (if i can resist ... )

I'm seriously considering picking up an Archimedes to go alongside my LTI Merlin. Other than that, all of the ships I want aren't for sale or are too expensive, especially considering I already have a few ships that cost $100+.

Well my merlin wasn't LTI... :D

Also buggy retaliator... Hangar ready? Think twice

Mine is shown as torp + drop instead of cargo+cargo and lot of glitches
