Starfield discussion thread

I got 2 hr into the game and I'm bored with it. The main story to find out what this artifact is all about isn't a new idea. Mass effect did it better.

With poorly layout menus and loading screens for what seems like every action, it isn't worth my time. Add in the brown color palette and it isn't pretty to look at either. The dev had 2 hrs to get me hooked. Didn't happen and now I'll uninstall it.

I'll give it a 6/10 score. Get Xbox gamepass for a month. Save money instead of dropping $70+

Yeah, the constant loading is....unacceptable. And the engine (not just the graphics) is like a 2005 game or something.

Loading screens are only 5 seconds load with a Nvme on ultra settings. But still, do you really need to load entering a building or existing? Culling has been around since 3d graphics where introduced. Whatever direction you don't face, don't render. Also this isn't coming out on last gen consoles, but the entire "loading screen" thing feels like it was made for Xbox 360 consoles when games ran off a disc.

I did about 10hrs of it, I was kinda bored with it. Same with me, loading screens, I think the game is loading in that time. Its the ship combat that is complete shit. Its not the space game that I thought it was, I wanted to become a space pirate. I wonder when star citizen is coming out.

Not sure if you've seen it, but you can also store the things you've picked up in the ships storage as well. It's accessed by a small panel on the left hand side as you're about to sit in the pilot's seat.

I'm taking it pretty slow too. I'm about 11 hours in and it's all starting to 'click'.
So, it seems after I completely changed my ship around, I can't find the cargo access panel anywhere. However, if you bring up your inventory, hit "Q" to swap to your ship's inventory, then back again... You can store things in the ship's cargo.

I wonder what steam reviews will be. I am going to guess mostly postive the first few weeks, a lot of negative energy on reddit, so it might even be Mixed or mostly negative once reviews on steam start occuring. Not sure, hard to see where this one will go. I will be very surprised if it goes to very positive in the first week though. i don't actually care, just curious

Considering it brings the best CPUs and GPUs to their knees, I hope it's the best looking game available today... in between all those loading screens.

@Fluffmeister i think it looks great with CAS turned on in the settings, but most people aren't impressed from what i hear.

Technical issues aside, people seem to be liking it a lot. I predict that there will be a mix of ratings that will turn more positive as time goes on and fixes are applied.

It does seem to be very beautiful. On systems it runs on(which now includes ARC GPUs with the updated drivers), it does seem to be very smooth.

Please note I haven't played it myself. Just going on observations.

I've read they are upto 600million raised.

More proper for this thread if you /really/ want to talk about it.

Thanks!

It's true the visuals are not stunning. I am not getting that Wow effect that I had when I first fired up Skyrim or even Oblivion. I also agree about the amount of loading happening. It feels like Skyrim but that game is so old we should have moved beyond the need to load all the time. Overall though the game does look nice and I like the combat and skill tree. There is A TON of stuff you can do, it honestly seems endless. I don't think you can judge this game by the first two hours but I also don't think it is worth $70. Wait for a sale and buy it when its like $50.

i'll wait if it ever comes out

the optimision fixes on nexus help quiet a bit

but the more I play the more I see bethesdas shit tier programing skill at work

the voice acting makes me want to uninstall its so bad I think AI could do a better job

I just see it for what it is, another one of Todd's Creation games, and so far it exceeded all my (admittedly higher than usual) expectations about it. It does a lot more well than it doesn't, and the potential for modding is sky high, I can't wait for my next playthrough in another year or so.

Bethesda's games may no longer be the groundbreaking things they were in the Oblivion/Fallout 3 days, but they are a tried and true recipe that I love. You can spend literally a thousand hours exploring, and you'll still find something new. I'm doing this one slowly, and it's been a delight, taking it all in. Nothing in the game, including the often hot topics of diversity and representation feel forced and are done with great care, the only thing that still felt a bit fast to me
is how you instantly went from no-name space miner to an important asset to this organization where everyone is eager to be your friend, and within 3 main quests you're your former boss' boss, but in a sense that's also how all previous Beth games did it somewhat...
, eh, it's been more than enjoyable.

I'm glad I decided to preorder this, I just hope they fix the CPU performance going forward, I'm not gonna mince words, it's about as foul as the Pinheiros river in São Paulo at high noon. I promise you will never smell anything worse in your life

Now compare both at launch for the most honest comparison ;)
was about to say that haha, its just as janky when it first launched, even worse at times.
wasn't water physics, or effects added later on after a patch on Cp2077?
