I stopped pirating games once I started earning a stable income. DRM sucks and "AAA" titles are overpriced, but that doesn't justify theft; if you really want to play the game on launch day, do the right thing and pony up the launch-day price. Otherwise, have some patience and wait for a sale, or just a few years until discounts start to come in - as a bonus, by that time all of the most game-breaking bugs will have been patched (especially important for Bethsoft games).
Same here. Now, I've got almost 500 games on Steam. For the vast majority of them, I only paid 10 quid or less. The Christmas sale is a good thing. Until then, I've got the rest of my games to play.

I agree with this sentiment except for games like Starfield where you now have to spend $100 to play the game on launch day. Piracy is unethical but so too is predatory staggered game launches. While I'm not going to be pirating any games, it would be a bit of poetic justice if the staggered launch BS bit them in the rear by leaving a window open where people are better of pirating it than buying the $70 version and having to wait for what Bethesda apparently considers the pleb release date.

if such time I feel that game is worth my 70 bucks they will get 70 bucks <----- possible but unlikely given bethesdas track record of buggy broken unplayable releases

but the games industry has lost my trust and any opperunity to stick it to there wallets I will gleefully enjoy untill such time that the industry cleans up its act

there is no moral debate only your own morality I have none get rekt

I wish there were more demos like the old days.
This!

Well, nobody is asking you to pay extra to beta-test the game. You can wait for proper launch day and see how the game is before you pay for it, like any sensible buyer. :)

Isn't it just Steam DRM? If so, it has been cracked years ago. Either way, I wouldn't buy a Bethesda game until at least a few major patches come out - I enjoy their games, but TES II wasn't called "Buggerfall" for no reason. I'm in no hurry and I'm not paid to be a beta tester, I'll wait for a year or so until a well patched "GOTY" edition goes on sale. Also, since I don't trust game developers more than I trust a cat around an open tuna can, I'll probably play a pirated version for a day and if there are no major problems with it, I'll buy the game. That's how I get around the lack of demo versions nowadays.

Nah, it means pretty much nothing. They'd probably sell even more if it were DRM free.

A pirate is not going to pay for your game either way, 9 times out of 10. It's usually not really a lost sale. It's a mirage of one.

I'm staunchly antipiracy as a former software dev myself but this is just reality.
This. Piracy is made far bigger than it is. The numbers for the total revenue of the gaming market simply don't lie. Its growth, year over year, EVERY YEAR, even with inflation, pandemics, war.... gaming's getting close to the economic elasticity of sliced bread.

I won't lie, I still pirate something from time to time, but I buy the majority. What I pirate, I honestly would only buy at perhaps $5,-. If a game really sits well with me, I must have it, I want it updated, and I want it no hassle. Digital distribution has already fixed piracy for gaming long ago, the advantages are there, its easy and its reliable.

CDProject RED already proved that if a game is good, people will buy it and the pirates will still pirate. No point in putting DRM in games.
Exactly, the proof is everywhere... Even GoG is still running.

I have mixed feelings on this but have come to terms with it still being infinitely better to "pirate demo" than to not buy at all.

Ideally, demos would still exist.

Acquiring others' IP without proper compensation is a criminal offense. How would you call people that do it?

Of course. Nobody holds a gun to your head to buy.

What you believe is irrelevant. What matters is what the law says. At least in the more civilized countries it does. Then again, your avatar is the flag of a country that stole everything from its citizens (i.e. state owned everything).
Yes, you're not in any way entitled to a video game, it's not a human right. You don't need a video game, you just want it.
But just saying "because it's the law" shouldn't really be convincing to anybody. There's plenty of bad laws, they keep changing, they vary wildly between different places on earth...

Also, games are not your property, they're a service. So it's fair to say pirating is not stealing, just a copyright infringement.

I use dodgy copies as a trial version. Have tried a fair few, bought a lot of them, some not. Considering trying this, might save me £60. The amount of games i own on steam is proof i am no pirate.

Still wont pirate it myself. Not because it's wrong. Because I already have a back log. As for pirating my stance is I'm for it. That's how I fell in love with 7 days to die and bought it afterwards to support the Fun Pimps.
Demos used to be a thing. But the gaming industry has figured out that demos expose shit games... and that's bad for profit.

And this ftw.
