Super Talent Technology, a leading manufacturer of DRAM memory modules and flash storage solutions, today launched the new Exelerator family of ReadyBoost drives that use an internal 9-pin USB header on the motherboard.

The Exelerator family of drives was designed expressly to elevate system performance in Windows Vista by functioning as a ReadyBoost drive. These innovative new Flash drives plug into a standard 9-pin USB header inside the chassis, on the motherboard, to function as a dedicated ReadyBoost drive. With lightning fast 25MB per second read speeds and sub-millisecond access times, Exelerator drives are the perfect cost effective system upgrade to enhance the Vista experience. These drives are offered with either vertical or horizontal connectors to accommodate space constraints within different enclosures.

RBV-1GB 1GB Exelerator Internal ReadyBoost drive with vertical connector
RBV-2GB 2GB Exelerator Internal ReadyBoost drive with vertical connector
RBV-4GB 4GB Exelerator Internal ReadyBoost drive with vertical connector
RBH-1GB 1GB Exelerator Internal ReadyBoost drive with horizontal connector
RBH-2GB 2GB Exelerator Internal ReadyBoost drive with horizontal connector
RBH-4GB 4GB Exelerator Internal ReadyBoost drive with horizontal connector

Super Talent Marketing Director, Joe James, commented, "Exelerator drives offer Vista users a quick, easy, permanent way to boost performance without sacrificing an external USB port. These exceptionally fast drives alleviate the need to always have a ReadyBoost USB drive plugged into the front of your chassis."

Super Talent's internal ReadyBoost drives are sampling now, with mass production starting in June. 2GB models are expected to retail for approximately $25.

Don't they mean Accelerator? I could understand Excelerator, but...I'd need that C in there.

Isn't it just a marketing name like Vista?

its probably just for branding or something, i would love to have one of these, if only i had VIsta :D

No, not really. Vista is a real word, whereas this is misspelled and nonsensical.

Yes, it bothers me when businesses butcher words to achieve some illusory "hipness" or whatever. But usually the words make some sense. All Exelerator makes me think of is incorrect spelling, and ultimately the wrong word altogether.

Hats off to those guys thats a great idea soon i guess will be seeing mobos with these built in :toast:

seems like kind of a waste of a good USB header, if you ask me -- do motherboards come with more than one, today? what if you still want to use it to hook up a front USB port?

i count four internal usb headers on my gigabyte p35 board

3 internal usbs on ASUS A8N-E

Nice, but can you afford to sacrifice a USB header on your mobo? I couldnt, not with my current Mobo which is Vista capable.

That is a pretty good idea. I normally only use one of the internal USB headers, so I could plug 3 of these into my motherboard. :)

seriously ima patten the idea of hard wiring a flash chip in a mobo just for this purpose and sell it to some company and become rich
even if not used for vista would be great for server main boards not requiring the os to be loaded on one of the drives also could be used as a page file

Oh THOSE USB headers, I was wondering what you were talking about :).

For all those confused: USB headers are the little thingies on your motherboard that you plug your case USB ports into to make your case USB ports work :).

Was anyone wondering?

Ok, so what is the advantage of this over just plugging a fast 4GB flash drive into an available USB port and leaving it there?

Sorry not hijacking, but I didn't know this was new.

Here's an example of one I read about the other day made by made by PQI

damn asus stole my idea

its not on the outside so someone can bounce or jostle it or remove it ... exteranally it isnt visible .. think of it as NAWZ

I guess if people like the idea they will buy it. I just don't see the joy in buying a flash drive that can only be connected by taking the side panel off, even if it is rarely if ever taken out. I'd rather have my 4GB flash with me all day, then when I get home I can plug it in and use it for Ready Boost.

Doesn't really matter IMHO, because Ready Boost will be pointless when SSD is the norm.

it doesn't have a "usb" connector .. it plugs right unto the header ... pull, plug, connect!

boom bang!

They should make a firewire version; i dont like firewire.

ocz makes a firewire flash drive soon. first pictures are in our cebit report. i will ask them for an update at computex next week
